MALAYSIA AIRLINES and Google have announced the expansion of their strategic commercial partnership, strengthening their shared ambition to redefine travel through artificial intelligence, data-driven marketing, and innovative digital experiences.
Building on a successful collaboration since 2024, the renewed partnership marks a significant step forward in Malaysia Airlines' digital transformation journey.
The focus now shifts from consumer showcases to deeper integration of AI-powered marketing and end-to-end digital innovation across the airline's ecosystem.
As part of this ongoing partnership, Malaysia Airlines and Google most recently unveiled an AI showcase at the recent Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair to bring Malaysia Airlines signature campaign 'Time For' to life.
The showcase featured an on-ground pilot of Veo, Google's image-to-video generation technology.
This interactive experience allowed visitors to bring their favourite travel memories to life using Google's state-of-the-art video generation tool – simply by uploading a photo and watching it transform into a dynamic video, ready to be shared across social platforms.
The activation underscored both partners' commitment to pushing the boundaries of personalised and immersive travel engagement.
At the core of this partnership is a mutual commitment to elevating the traveller journey.
Google Gemini's advanced AI capabilities will power next-generation personalisation across multiple customer touchpoints, aligning with Malaysia Airlines' ambition to become the gateway to Asia and support Malaysia's broader goals as a regional aviation and tourism hub, in line with Visit Malaysia 2026.
'This is about transforming how we connect with our customers — from inspiration to booking, to every interaction across the journey.
'By leveraging Google's advanced technology and global expertise, we're unlocking new opportunities, enhancing the travel experience, and reinforcing Malaysia's appeal as a world-class tourism destination.
'This partnership reinforces our commitment to supporting the goals of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 by positioning Malaysia as the gateway to Asia and beyond,' said Malaysia Aviation Group chief commercial officer (airlines business) Dersenish Aresandiran.
The partnership introduced an AI-powered experience using Google's Veo image-to-video tech, highlighting immersive engagement potential.
The partnership is now formalised under a bold new Joint Business Plan, closely aligned with Malaysia Airlines' commercial growth strategy and brand aspirations. Key focus areas include:
> AI-powered performance marketing: Leveraging Google's Performance Max and AI enhanced Search tools to drive smarter, data-led marketing outcomes.
> Global brand building via YouTube: Launching targeted campaigns in the UK, ANZ, Japan, and key ASEAN markets to grow international brand affinity.
> Agile innovation culture: Embedding a 'test and learn' mindset to accelerate innovation across the customer journey.
> First-party data activation: Unlocking deeper customer insights to drive loyalty through Enrich and premium cabin offerings.
Google Malaysia country director Farhan Qureshi said, 'Our collaboration with Malaysia Airlines showcases how technology and creativity can converge to transform travel at scale.
'Together, we're pushing boundaries to deliver more relevant, intuitive, and engaging experiences for travellers worldwide.'
This expanded partnership underscores Malaysia Airlines' commitment to digital excellence, leveraging AI to streamline operations, personalise services, and create a seamless, customer-centric travel ecosystem.
It also reflects a broader ambition to lead innovation in the aviation industry while supporting national tourism growth.

Adding value with halal certification

KUALA LUMPUR: Halal certification in the food and beverage (F&B) sector adds significant value to businesses as Malaysia continues to attract growing numbers of foreign tourists, says Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. He said the halal certification goes beyond religious requirements, as it also reflects evaluations of cleanliness, food safety and overall quality standards. 'We encourage industry players, especially those involved in food and beverage, to strive to obtain halal certification,' he told reporters at an event here yesterday. He said under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the government plans to establish a Halal Commission to strengthen the country's halal industry. 'To expedite the halal certification process, the Islamic Development Department, in collaboration with the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, is working to reduce bureaucratic red tape as part of the government's efforts to enhance the ease of doing business in the country,' he said. As the lead ministry for the Buy Malaysian Campaign, Armizan also urged local industry players, including micro, small and medium enterprises, to adopt effective strategies and approaches to highlight the strengths and uniqueness of their products. 'The role of local industry is vital in showcasing distinctive brands and products to attract foreign tourists, especially in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. 'As the ministry responsible for the distributive trade sector, including wholesale and retail services, as well as the F&B sub-sector, KPDN remains committed to driving healthy and progressive domestic trade,' he said, Bernama reported. Armizan noted that according to the Gross Domestic Product report released by Bank Negara on Friday, the distributive trade sector remains one of the key contributors to the services sector, recording steady growth in the second quarter of this year. 'The distributive trade sector, including wholesale and retail services as well as the F&B sub-sectors, recorded growth of 5.1% in the second quarter of 2025, compared with 5% in the first quarter. 'With this positive momentum, the ministry is optimistic that growth in the sector will continue, contributing to a stronger and more resilient economy,' he said.

Sabah Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment and STB chairman, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, said the route would boost Sabah's visibility among Singaporeans and attract other international travellers to travel through Changi Airport. 'Sabah is not just about Mount Kinabalu or Sipadan, but also Sandakan – a gateway to nature. We have diverse attractions. A lot of Singaporeans love nature, and what better place to visit than Sandakan,' he told Bernama after launching the Sabah Fest 2025 - Singapore Edition, here on Saturday. Joniston expressed hope that travel agents in Singapore would showcase Sabah's wide-ranging attractions, from the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, by introducing exciting travel packages. As of May this year, he said more than 13,000 Singaporeans had visited Sabah, and he hoped the number would continue to increase in line with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) campaign. 'Tourism Malaysia Singapore in collaboration with the Sabah Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STTOS), together with other agencies, are working hard to help promote Sabah,' he added. He also expressed hope that Scoot and AirAsia would consider increasing the frequency of their Singapore-Kota Kinabalu direct flights. Joniston said the three-day Sabah Fest 2025 – Singapore Edition, held at Marina Square from Friday (Aug 15) and organised by STTOS, offers Singaporeans a glimpse of Sabah's culture, tourism and trade ahead of the full-month celebration in the state next month. At the event, Joniston also launched the 'Stamp and Feel Sabah' campaign – a stamp rally programme introduced by STTOS to encourage Singaporean travellers to explore Sabah. Travellers can collect a stamp booklet from Tourism Malaysia's Singapore office, earn stamps by visiting listed attractions, and redeem rewards at the STTOS office while stocks last. Meanwhile, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar said the High Commission is proud to support Sabah Fest 2025 as it aligns with its mission to foster bilateral ties through cultural exchange, tourism promotion, and economic cooperation. 'This event directly supports the VMY2026 promotional campaign by highlighting Sabah's unique cultural and natural attractions to Singapore audiences,' he added.
