Magpies to rest two stars bothered by injury
Sidebottom has delivered a brilliant opening half of the season, highlighted by Anzac Day Medal honours in the wet against Essendon.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae said Sidebottom was due for a rest and the flare up in his back paved the way for it to be this week.
'Steele is going to rest this week, we'll manage him, that's been the plan for a number of weeks. He's had a bit of a grumbling back,' McRae said.
'But he's had that for, I want to say, the last six or seven years, to be honest.
'Every week he said 'nah, I'll be right, we'll get there' and then slowly but surely he's expressed himself a bit more.
'We've had to deliver a plan to manage him this week.'
Captain Darcy Moore (shoulder) won't play this week, while Dan Houston (calf) will be named despite showing discomfort at training.
Moore missed last week after hurting his shoulder in the dying minutes of Collingwood's previous win over Fremantle.
Houston sat out of main training earlier in the week and did some fitness testing on Thursday with heavy bandaging on his right leg.
McRae said Houston 'did a great job to get up' and will face the Kangaroos unless he pulls up sore on Friday.
'Dan had a bigger limp at the start of the week, so we're rapt with how he's gone about it,' he said.
'He'll play at the moment as long as he doesn't pull up sore tomorrow. We'll name him, credit to him he did a great job to get up this week.
'It's looking unlikely for Darcy at this stage, I think we'll rule him out … he's another one who put himself right in the frame to play, unfortunately there's just a little bit of lingering stuff in the AC joint at the moment.'

Suns job has 'invigorated' me: ex-Kangaroos coach Shaw
Invigorated Rhyce Shaw has laughed off a possible return to AFL coaching as he prepares to make history with Gold Coast's AFLW side. The former North Melbourne mentor will become the first person to be a full-time head coach of both leagues when the Suns begin their season against West Coast in Perth on Thursday. It's Shaw's first head coaching role since 2020, when he took personal leave before parting ways with the Kangaroos. Two other AFLW coaches have led men's programs before, but Darren Crocker (North Melbourne) and ex-Giants boss Alan McConnell (Fitzroy) both did so as caretakers. Lured to the Suns by former coach Stuart Dew - the pair had worked together at Sydney - Shaw has spent the last four seasons in various development roles. He had impressed in an interim capacity at the Kangaroos in 2019 but struggled with the demands of the role during the COVID-19-hit season, his side losing 14 of their final 15 games in a 3-14 campaign. There was a natural hesitancy to return to a head coaching role when a four-year deal was put to him earlier this year. "I've bloody loved it; this group is just an amazing group of players, so coachable," Shaw said of the decision. "They want to do the right thing, train as hard as they can, do the best they can. "That makes me a better coach; it's really refreshing for me. "One of the best decisions I made, to get back into it. "I couldn't thank the club enough for the support. "Not at all; very happy where I am," he said. "I love coaching this group; haven't dream about doing anything else." He replaces Cameron Joyce, who was axed after Gold Coast finished 17th last season. The Suns will blood five debutantes against the Eagles and manage a long injury list. "There's a lot of new things; training, game plan, coaches, players," Shaw said. "It's all pretty fresh. This is the beginning of our journey."

Health the key as Crows plot deep finals run
Adelaide will be focusing on health rather than daydreaming about the prospect of securing the minor premiership as the AFL flag race prepares to go into overdrive. The Crows moved a game clear on top of the ladder after coming from behind to defeat wooden spooners West Coast by nine points on Sunday. Adelaide (16-5) take on third-placed Collingwood (15-6) in a blockbuster home clash on Saturday night, before rounding out their home-and-away campaign against struggling North Melbourne. The Crows are already guaranteed to play finals for the first time since 2017, and they are in prime position to finish on top of the ladder. But Adelaide could still tumble out of the top four if things go horribly wrong over the next fortnight, with rivals Collingwood, Geelong (15-6), Fremantle (15-6), Brisbane (14-6-1) and Gold Coast (14-6) all ready to pounce. Nicks says the minor premiership won't be a topic he'll be touching on. "We haven't even talked about it, and I probably won't go there at all," Nicks said after the 13.9 (87) to 12.6 (78) win over West Coast. "At the moment, we're not looking necessarily at the ladder. "It's great to hear that officially we've qualified for finals. I think the reality is that our state knows that, and they've known we sit on top of the ladder. "Let them enjoy it.
