Magpies to rest two stars bothered by injury

In-form Collingwood veteran Steele Sidebottom will sit out of this weekend's clash with North Melbourne to manage a 'grumbling back'. Sidebottom has delivered a brilliant opening half of the season, highlighted by Anzac Day Medal honours in the wet against Essendon. Collingwood coach Craig McRae said Sidebottom was due for a rest and the flare up in his back paved the way for it to be this week. 'Steele is going to rest this week, we'll manage him, that's been the plan for a number of weeks. He's had a bit of a grumbling back,' McRae said. 'But he's had that for, I want to say, the last six or seven years, to be honest. 'Every week he said 'nah, I'll be right, we'll get there' and then slowly but surely he's expressed himself a bit more. 'We've had to deliver a plan to manage him this week.' Captain Darcy Moore (shoulder) won't play this week, while Dan Houston (calf) will be named despite showing discomfort at training. Moore missed last week after hurting his shoulder in the dying minutes of Collingwood's previous win over Fremantle. Houston sat out of main training earlier in the week and did some fitness testing on Thursday with heavy bandaging on his right leg. McRae said Houston 'did a great job to get up' and will face the Kangaroos unless he pulls up sore on Friday. 'Dan had a bigger limp at the start of the week, so we're rapt with how he's gone about it,' he said. 'He'll play at the moment as long as he doesn't pull up sore tomorrow. We'll name him, credit to him he did a great job to get up this week. 'It's looking unlikely for Darcy at this stage, I think we'll rule him out … he's another one who put himself right in the frame to play, unfortunately there's just a little bit of lingering stuff in the AC joint at the moment.'

Camden County Sheriff denies allegations made in lawsuit

CAMDEN COUNTY, Mo. — Camden County Sheriff Chris Edgar issued a press release on Friday, May 16, saying the Camden County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is denying allegations made in a lawsuit filed last month against Camden County's former sheriff and a CCSO deputy. According to the petition, Neal Sidebottom is suing Tony Helms, former Camden County Sheriff, and Cole Downing, CCSO deputy, for damages after an incident at a baseball game that resulted in Sidebottom being arrested and jailed. The lawsuit claims Sidebottom's Fourth Amendment rights regarding unreasonable searches and seizure were denied. The suit also claims Sidebottom was arrested without probable cause or suspicion, leading to him being falsely imprisoned for 3.5 days. Sidebottom allegedly suffered professional and financial damages exceeding $350,000, the petition says. 'My office is aware, as are many of you, of pending litigation against one of my deputies stemming from an arrest he made two years ago this month,' Sheriff Edgar said in the release. 'Due to the public interest in this lawsuit, I feel it is my duty to inform you, the citizens of this community, where I stand.' Edgar said Sidebottom was 'lawfully arrested' during an altercation at Ballparks National in Macks Creek. 'My staff and I deny the allegations made in his lawsuit,' Edgar said. 'Deputy Downing is an experienced and conscientious law enforcement officer and has my full support.' Edgar said the CCSO will vigorously defend this matter in court. A hearing for the suit will be held on June 9 in Morgan County. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Footy star's amazing hidden talent is revealed in video that will leave you asking, 'How on earth does he do that?'

Magpies veteran Steele Sidebottom has unveiled his uncanny talent for remembering the exact brand of football boots worn by other AFL players. The 34-year-old Collingwood star's extraordinary memory was revealed in a lighthearted video released by the AFL on social media, which is surprising fans across the nation. 'As a kid, I was obsessed with, well footy for one, but I used to just love footy boots, so whenever I see someone play I always just check what boots they've got on,' he explains in the clip. Sidebottom is quizzed if he can name what 26 random players are wearing on their feet - and without hesitation he nails every one correctly. Of course, Sidebottom's bizarre talent has been impressing his Collingwood teammates for years. In 2016, Adam Treloar revealed as much while appearing on the Sports Galore podcast. The Magpies veteran (pictured with wife Alisha and children) says he's been obsessed with boots since he was a kid 'One time he said to me "where are your Asics?", Treloar explained. 'I said "how do you know what boot I wear?", and he replied "I know everyone's boot in the AFL".' Treloar couldn't believe what he was hearing and put Sidebottom to the test. 'I kid you not, he could name every player's boots that they wore,' said Treloar. 'All my ex-Giants teammates, I was naming them and he said "I know what boot (brand) they wear and which ones (model) they wear." 'He didn't miss any.' Meanwhile, Collingwood coach Craig McRae has lauded his players as winners, even though their six-game AFL streak is over. He was rapt with how they handled the end of Saturday night's epic three-point loss to Geelong, rallying around Jack Crisp when he missed his shot at goal after the siren. It would have been a fairytale finish had he kicked accurately, given Crisp was playing in his 245th-consecutive match. That broke the long-standing AFL record, set by Melbourne great Jim Stynes. Collingwood players and also some Cats opponents immediately went to Crisp after his crucial kick only scored a behind. 'When he misses that kick, just look at the response of our team. It's testament to the character and culture that we have,' McRae said after the agonising 13.12 (90) to 12.15 (87) loss. 'We look like winners, regardless of what the scoreboard said.'
