It comes at a cost though. Every team in the Premier League other than Man City has been sitting with their feet up for a month while we've been playing draining, competitive football against the best teams in the world.
Now our players go on their break, while the rest of league ramps up into preseason.
It's going to create a very strange start to the 2025-2026 season for Chelsea, and most people would suspect that it's going to mean a slow start in terms of results. According to Simon Johnson, the majority of our players will only return from holiday two weeks before we start the season against Crystal Palace on Sunday 17th of August.
Loanees the first to return
Johnson quite reasonably expects that Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian will start a little earlier, as they didn't make it as deep in the CWC as we did. Then there are others who weren't taken on the tour and have already returned to Cobham to start their preseason – but as Johnson points out: 'they are returning loanees who are expected to be sold.'
'Chelsea have just two friendlies, against Bayer Leverkusen and Milan, before their opening Premier League game versus Crystal Palace.'
So for all the fun we had in the USA, we may pay the price in the early weeks of the season as we look to get up to speed and face teams who are a month ahead in terms of preparation. Don't be surprised by a few bad results, and a rather mixed up team in those early weeks as everyone plays catch up.

Jake Ferguson signs four-year extension with Cowboys
Micah Parsons is still waiting for a new contract in Dallas, but one of his teammates landed an extension on Sunday. The Cowboys announced that they have signed tight end Jake Ferguson to a four-year extension. It's a $52 million deal with $30 million in guaranteed money. New York Giants training camp: Top 5 plays from Week 1
The New York Giants wrapped up their first week of training camp on Sunday under overcast East Rutherford skies and with their shells on. There were many highs and lows throughout the week, but more reasons for optimism than pessimism. The offense looks like an entirely different unit than a year ago, while the defensive front seven flashed utter dominance. There were also more than a handful of highlight plays on all sides of the ball, breathing life and excitement into the fan base. Here's a look at the top five plays of the week. 5. The catch that wasn't On the very last play of Sunday's wrap-up practice, rookie running back Cam Skattebo flashed brilliant hands and concentration, hauling in a deflected pass while tapping his toes on the ground. Arguably, the most unbelievable came when he lined up off the ball inside and completely destroyed center John Michael Schmitz. 1. Darius slays Veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton electrified Sunday's crowd early in practice, hauling in a dazzling one-handed catch along the sideline. Not only was he able to secure the ball, but he got both feet in bounds for the big gain off the arm of Russell Wilson. Parma defender Giovanni Leoni reportedly wants to join Inter Milan this summer, but 'won't wait forever' for the move. This according to today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. For the last several weeks, Inter have been heavily linked with Parma defender Giovanni Leoni. Reportedly, the 19-year-old is the player the Nerazzurri see as ideal for the long-term future of their defense. Furthermore, the fact that Leoni had worked with coach Cristian Chivu last season has further bumped him up Inter's list of targets. However, the price tag for Leoni would be quite high. Reportedly, Parma are holding out for as much as €40 million to sell the teenage defender. Then, from the Premier League, the Corriere name Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United as admirers of the teenage defender. Inter have the advantage as far as Leoni preferring the move. However, if they cannot make their move in due time, the 19-year-old could accept other destinations. Alternatively, Parma's preference would actually be to hold onto Leoni for another season.
