Christian Pulisic, the captain of the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT), has added another accolade to his growing resume by winning the Best Soccer Player award at the 2025 ESPYS. Pulisic outshone a formidable trio from Barcelona, Lamine Yamal, Aitana Bonmatí, and Alexia Putellas, to claim the award, determined by public vote. This victory also highlights his remarkable 2024-25 season with AC Milan.
Christian Pulisic delivered his best professional campaign yet, tallying an impressive 17 goals and 10 assists in 50 appearances for AC Milan. His contributions were instrumental in securing the Italian Super Cup for the Rossoneri, their first since 2016.
A standout moment came in a dramatic 3–2 comeback win against rivals Inter Milan, where Pulisic scored a crucial goal. 'That goal against Inter was one of those moments you dream about as a kid,' Pulisic said in a post-match interview, reflecting his passion for big stages.
Despite his individual brilliance, AC Milan struggled in Serie A, finishing eighth and missing out on European competitions. However, Pulisic's performances earned him widespread admiration.
Pulisic's ESPYS win is particularly significant given the caliber of his competitors. Lamine Yamal, an 18-year-old sensation and a frontrunner for the 2025 Ballon d'Or, recorded 18 goals and 21 assists while helping Barcelona secure a domestic treble. Aitana Bonmati, the 2024 Women's Ballon d'Or winner, and Alexia Putellas, a two-time Ballon d'Or recipient, led Barcelona to another Liga F title, a fifth Spanish Super Cup, and an 11th Copa de la Reina.
However, Pulisic's strong fanbase and exceptional season made him claim the win.
By claiming the Best Soccer Player award, Pulisic has joined an exclusive list of soccer icons, including Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, David Beckham, Ronaldinho, and Mia Hamm. The ESPYS, an annual ESPN-produced ceremony, celebrate athletic excellence, and Pulisic's victory underscores his growing influence.
From his early days in Hershey, Pennsylvania, to starring for top clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and now AC Milan, Pulisic has amassed 56 goals and 41 assists in 258 appearances, including a hat trick. His 2025 ESPYS win is a testament to his talent and a sign of even greater achievements to come.

Napoli's Scott McTominay Set To Be Nominated For 2025 Ballon d'Or: Report

Last Updated: Scott McTominay is set for his first Ballon d'Or nomination after a stellar season with Napoli, contributing to their Serie A title win. Napoli's midfield dynamo Scott McTominay is reportedly set to receive his first-ever Ballon d'Or nomination, following a sensational 2024/25 campaign in Italy. According to Daily Mail and SportBible, if confirmed, McTominay will join a prestigious group of players vying for football's most coveted individual prize—a remarkable turnaround for a player whose move from Manchester United to Napoli last summer raised eyebrows across Europe. At 28, McTominay made a bold leap by leaving his boyhood club, Manchester United, to sign a four-year contract with Napoli. What followed was nothing short of transformative. Under the guidance of manager Antonio Conte, McTominay flourished, contributing 13 goals and six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. More significantly, his performances played a pivotal role in Napoli's historic Serie A title triumph—just the fourth in the club's long history. For his efforts, McTominay was named Serie A Player of the Year, quickly becoming a cult figure among fans in Campania. Speaking to talkSPORT last month, McTominay was full of praise for the Napoli faithful: 'The supporters here are special. The passion they bring every week—home or away—is something I've never experienced before." While McTominay's nomination has not been officially confirmed by France Football, the outlet responsible for organizing the Ballon d'Or, the 30-man shortlist is expected to be released in September ahead of the October ceremony in Paris. The shortlist is compiled by France Football's editorial team, former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba, and a guest journalist. After the shortlist is finalized, votes are cast by international journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations, as well as national team coaches and captains. Who's Favoured? Ousmane Dembélé is currently the bookmakers' favourite after his instrumental role in PSG's Champions League triumph. Rising superstar Lamine Yamal is another strong contender following a breakout year at Barcelona, where he helped lead the Catalan giants to the La Liga title and a Champions League semi-final. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. The tension between FC Barcelona and goalkeeper Marc-Andrr ter Stegen is rising. The German footballer has refused to sign a key medical report for the club and Barcelona may soon take legal action against him. We explain the whole controversy. read more Barcelona's battle against goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen could soon be fought in the courts after reports stated that the La Liga giants are mulling legal action against the German footballer. The dispute between Barcelona and the 33-year-old footballer stems from Ter Stegen's refusal to sign a consent form for his medical data to be shared with La Liga. Here's the lowdown on the whole issue: Ter Stegen had undergone a lower back surgery on 29 July. Now, Barcelona feel that Ter Stegen will be out for at least the next four to five months. They were also looking to offload him in the market as they went ahead and signed Joan García from Espanyol to be their new No.1 goalkeeper and renewed the contract of Wojciech Szczesny. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Barcelona's dispute with Ter Stegen explained But Ter Stegen feels he will be back inside three months. He reportedly wants to continue fighting for the No.1 goalkeeper spot at Barcelona as he eyes the Germany goalkeeper position at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The major issue here is that Barcelona will be allowed to exclude him from the main squad only if they can prove to La Liga that Ter Stegen will not be available for at least four months. They will also be allowed to use at least 50 percent of their salary to register new players under La Liga's injury provision and financial fair play regulations. More from Football However, Ter Stegen has refused to sign the consent form for his medical data to be shared with La Liga. Without his consent, the data cannot be shared and Barcelona cannot prove that the goalkeeper will be unavailable for at least four months. As per ESPN, Barcelona sporting director Deco tried to speak to Ter Stegen on Tuesday, but they could not locate him, while the goalkeeper sent a fax to the club stating that he doesn't wish to sign the consent form. A few media outlets in Spain have stated that Barcelona have opened disciplinary action against the footballer, but ESPN has refuted these claims. As per ESPN, Barcelona are mulling legal alternatives and they may also fine the player. Barcelona is also not happy that Ter Stegen decided to undergo surgery in July when they were planning to sell him. The club president, Joan Laporta, has recently said that the 'most direct path' to register new signings García and Marcus Rashford was to do it through La Liga's emergency injury rule. But they will only be able to use it if they can prove Ter Stegen's unavailability. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
