Napoli's Scott McTominay Set To Be Nominated For 2025 Ballon d'Or: Report
Scott McTominay is set for his first Ballon d'Or nomination after a stellar season with Napoli, contributing to their Serie A title win.
Napoli's midfield dynamo Scott McTominay is reportedly set to receive his first-ever Ballon d'Or nomination, following a sensational 2024/25 campaign in Italy.
According to Daily Mail and SportBible, if confirmed, McTominay will join a prestigious group of players vying for football's most coveted individual prize—a remarkable turnaround for a player whose move from Manchester United to Napoli last summer raised eyebrows across Europe.
At 28, McTominay made a bold leap by leaving his boyhood club, Manchester United, to sign a four-year contract with Napoli. What followed was nothing short of transformative.
Under the guidance of manager Antonio Conte, McTominay flourished, contributing 13 goals and six assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.
More significantly, his performances played a pivotal role in Napoli's historic Serie A title triumph—just the fourth in the club's long history. For his efforts, McTominay was named Serie A Player of the Year, quickly becoming a cult figure among fans in Campania.
Speaking to talkSPORT last month, McTominay was full of praise for the Napoli faithful:
'The supporters here are special. The passion they bring every week—home or away—is something I've never experienced before."
While McTominay's nomination has not been officially confirmed by France Football, the outlet responsible for organizing the Ballon d'Or, the 30-man shortlist is expected to be released in September ahead of the October ceremony in Paris.
The shortlist is compiled by France Football's editorial team, former Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba, and a guest journalist. After the shortlist is finalized, votes are cast by international journalists from the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations, as well as national team coaches and captains.
Who's Favoured?
Ousmane Dembélé is currently the bookmakers' favourite after his instrumental role in PSG's Champions League triumph. Rising superstar Lamine Yamal is another strong contender following a breakout year at Barcelona, where he helped lead the Catalan giants to the La Liga title and a Champions League semi-final.

Paris Saint-Germain To Sign Lille Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier: Source
Last Updated: PSG to sign Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier for €40M, raising questions about Gianluigi Donnarumma's future at the club. European champions Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with Lille to sign goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, a source close to the negotiations told AFP on Friday. Chevalier, 23, will sign a five-year contract and command a fee of around 40 million euros ($46.5 million). He was nominated on Thursday for this year's men's Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper at the Ballon d'Or gala, following exceptional performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season. Lille finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season and qualified for the Europa League. Chevalier's arrival is likely to raise questions about the future of Italian international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at PSG. It is believed PSG sporting director Luis Campos has given Chevalier certain guarantees about his place in the squad, and the Frenchman's ability with his feet would align more with Luis Enrique's style of play. All of these point to Donnarumma, 26, being relegated to the role of back-up. A position that would be unappealing to Italy's number one, who was named the world's best goalkeeper in April by the CIES Football Observatory. Donnarumma, who was outstanding as PSG won the Champions League for the first time in their history last term, is in the final year of his contract and would likely interest Premier League clubs. Indeed, England seems the most plausible option for Donnarumma, with both Manchester clubs and Chelsea showing interest. Manchester United would appear the likely destination for the former AC Milan shot-stopper after Cameroon's Andre Onana has failed to convince since replacing David de Gea between the sticks at Old Trafford two seasons ago.
