Paris Saint-Germain To Sign Lille Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier: Source
PSG to sign Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier for €40M, raising questions about Gianluigi Donnarumma's future at the club.
European champions Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement with Lille to sign goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, a source close to the negotiations told AFP on Friday.
Chevalier, 23, will sign a five-year contract and command a fee of around 40 million euros ($46.5 million).
He was nominated on Thursday for this year's men's Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper at the Ballon d'Or gala, following exceptional performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season.
Lille finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season and qualified for the Europa League.
Chevalier's arrival is likely to raise questions about the future of Italian international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma at PSG.
It is believed PSG sporting director Luis Campos has given Chevalier certain guarantees about his place in the squad, and the Frenchman's ability with his feet would align more with Luis Enrique's style of play.
All of these point to Donnarumma, 26, being relegated to the role of back-up. A position that would be unappealing to Italy's number one, who was named the world's best goalkeeper in April by the CIES Football Observatory.
Donnarumma, who was outstanding as PSG won the Champions League for the first time in their history last term, is in the final year of his contract and would likely interest Premier League clubs.
Indeed, England seems the most plausible option for Donnarumma, with both Manchester clubs and Chelsea showing interest.
Manchester United would appear the likely destination for the former AC Milan shot-stopper after Cameroon's Andre Onana has failed to convince since replacing David de Gea between the sticks at Old Trafford two seasons ago.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma To Play VHT? Here's How Many Runs They Scored Last Time
Both have retired from Tests and T20Is. Over the past six months, whether directly or indirectly, both have tended to suggest that they are focussed solely on the 2027 ODI World Cup in Africa. (AFP Photo) 3/8 5/8 Virat Kohli's last List A appearance for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy was in 2010 on February 18 against Services in Gurgaon. Kohli was the captain of the team, and Delhi won that match by 113 runs. The skipper scored 16 (8) while batting at number five. (BCCI Photo) The VHT has played a major role in promoting Kohli's career. He scored 534 runs in seven matches in the 2008-09 season, the highest. His four centuries in the edition remained a record till 2022-23 when Narayan Jagadeesan broke it. (AFP image) Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, made his last VHT appearance in the knockouts of the 2018 edition. He played just two matches, scoring an unbeaten 33 in the quarter-final against Bihar and 17 off 24 in the semi-final against Hyderabad. (Picture credit: ICC)

'That was my mistake': Rohit Sharma's childhood coach shares how he discovered the batter inside future India captain
Rohit Sharma (AFP Photo) NEW DELHI: India's ODI captain Rohit Sharma 's journey to becoming one of modern cricket's most destructive openers almost took a very different path. His childhood coach, Dinesh Lad, has revealed that he first spotted Rohit not with a bat in hand, but as a promising off-spinner — and only discovered his batting talent by chance, much later. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Speaking on a YouTube podcast with Gaurav Manglani, Lad recalled: 'I first saw him as a bowler, he was about 12 years old. I saw him playing a match against us. Then I told his uncle (Chacha) to get him admitted to my school. The school started in 1995, and I saw Rohit in 1999. He took admission that year. In the first year, he was in under 14. During practice, I kept making him bowl. Next year, Rohit went to 8th standard and was 14 years old. ' Poll What do you think was the key factor in Rohit Sharma's success as a cricketer? Natural talent Coaching and guidance Hard work and determination Opportunities to showcase skills The turning point came unexpectedly. 'One day, while entering the school, I saw a boy knocking (batting). From outside, I saw the bat was coming very straight and good. I didn't know it was Rohit at first. When I went inside, I asked him if he was batting. He said yes, sir. Then I gave him some batting in the nets at number six or seven. Before that, I had never given him batting practice. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Certificate in Technology MIT-TLIP Apply Now Undo That was my mistake,' Lad admitted. Rohit soon proved his worth with the bat. 'He batted well. In a match, he went in at number seven and scored 40 runs — a very good 40. The way he was batting, I felt he had a very good talent for batting. A thought came to my mind: it would be good to make him open. He was very happy when I asked, and scored 140 runs as an opener. That's when I knew he should focus more on batting.' The rest, as they say, is history — with Rohit Sharma going on to become one of the finest opening batters of his era, famed for his elegance, timing, and unmatched pull shot. Mason Greenwood And Tyrone Mings Get Into Heated Scuffle in Marseille Vs Villa Friendly
Last Updated: An ugly quarrel broke out between the sides as Greenwood swung his leg at Amadou Onana in a challenge from behind following which Mings intervened. Marseille star Mason Greenwood and Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings got into a scuffle during the pre-season friendly between the sides at the Stade Velodrome in France on Saturday. Greenwood starred in his side's 3-1 triumph over the Premier League outfit on the day as he got his name on the scoresheet and also set up one of teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's brace of goals. Tyrone Mings going at Mason Greenwood today…😬 — Football Away Days (@FBAwayDays) August 9, 2025 Marseille were cruising against Unai Emery and Co. before an ugly quarrel broke out between the sides as Greenwood swung his leg at Amadou Onana in a challenge from behind. Onana squared up to the Englishman as the duo pushed each other before Mings stopped play, picked the ball up and intervened. Mings went on to manhandle the former Manchester United player before the 23-year-old was left with a tattered jersey. However, it was Greenwood who had the last laugh as Marseille played their oppositions on the day out of the park with a clinical display under the stewardship of Roberto De Zerbi. Marseille finished the 2024/25 season of Ligue 1 in second place with 65 points to their name in 34 outings, coming in second only to champions PSG, who also went on to clinch their maiden UEFA Champions League title Luis Enrique. PSG emulated Marseille's feat of winning the prestigious European competition to put their name up in lights. Villa, on the other hand, finished sixth in the English top-flight with 66 points to book their place in the UEFA Europa League, as they narrowly missed out on a UCL spot despite competing for the coveted top-bracket finish for a majority of the season. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
