The most shocking moments from MAFS Australia: awkward honeymoons, unexpected old flames and ballroom dancing disasters
IT'S THE hit show from down under, where singletons embark on the ultimate journey to find true love – by marrying a complete stranger.
While this year has delivered its fair share of fairytale moments, it's safe to say there has also been some jaw-dropping drama that has left us shocked on our sofas.
The quest for happily ever after is never easy. Now we have all the episodes available to stream on Channel 4, we look back at the standout moments that made this year's series so unforgettable.

Old flames can still spark
In a Married at First Sight Australia first, one of this year's brides had not only met her groom before – she had dated him.
Carina Mirabile, a 31-year-old digital marketing manager from Perth, had been on several dates with 30-year-old wellness adviser Paul Antoine before she met him again at the altar.
Shocked by the coincidence but still dedicated to their quest for true love, the couple put their trust in the experiment – no matter what the outcome…
If you thought it was shocking that it happened once, have we got news for you – it happened again. Rhi Disljenkovic, a 34-year-old account manager from Victoria, also expected to see a total stranger waiting for her at the end of the aisle.
Instead, she was surprised to see her former flame, 39-year-old electrician Jeff Gobbels, staring back at her.
The pair had dated briefly before, but, like Carina and Paul, they were happy to carry on with the experiment.

First dance or dip?
Let's face it: making your first dance truly unique is no easy feat – especially when most couples opt for an Ed Sheeran song.
But groom Ryan Donnelly, a 36-year-old project manager from New South Wales, clearly wanted to make his mark. He certainly did – though not quite as planned.
As he romantically twirled new bride Jacqui Burfoot, a 29-year-old consultant, around the dancefloor, Ryan attempted a ballroom-worthy dip.
Unfortunately, his enthusiasm got the better of him and he ended up dropping Jacqui on her head. Ever the trooper, she laughed it off on the day like a true queen.
However, it seems the moment wasn't forgotten, as she's since brought up the failed dip during an argument or two.

A moment for the girls
It's safe to say that a good group of girls can bring the vibe to any function – and when times are tough, you know they have your back.
This was definitely the case for MAFS Aus contestant Katie Johnston, a 37-year-old CEO from Queensland.
After being matched with Tim, a 38-year-old primary school teacher from Victoria, the couple's relationship began rather turbulently as the groom admitted he felt 'no spark' with Katie and that she wasn't his 'type'.
Following a very awkward honeymoon, the couple chose to arrive separately at the first dinner party with the rest of the contestants.
Instead of admitting his part in the demise of their relationship, Tim proceeded to blame Katie and downplay his own behaviour to the rest of the group.
Ultimate girls' girl and fellow contestant Jamie Marinos, 28, read the room and called Tim out for his 'gaslighting' behaviour after seeing how upset he had made Katie.
The rest of her fellow female contestants followed suit, providing the comfort and hype Katie needed.
While she may have not found love on the show, Katie found her besties in the girls instead.
Photo challenge chaos
It has to be one of our favourite challenges every year – and somehow, it just gets better.
If your partner was ever asked to rank the most attractive person in a photo line-up, you'd definitely hope they'd put you first.
Bride Jacqui thought so too. However, groom Ryan wasn't on the same wavelength and ranked fellow contestants Sierah Swepstone and Rhi Disljenkovic above her.
Baffled by Jacqui's upset reaction, Ryan tried to make his excuses by telling her that he was just being honest – because of course that makes it all better.
Meanwhile, a fellow contestant, 56-year-old DJ Morena Farina, took the challenge as an opportunity to judge the contestants not on their appearance but how they interacted with her personally.
After all, it's not all about looks.
Intimacy 101
It's clear that expert judge – and clinical sexologist – Alessandra Rampolla ramped up her flirty challenges during this year's intimacy week.
From lingerie shopping to the girls having a fantasy night – where Morena treated herself to a Titanic-inspired painting session with groom Tony Mojanovski – everyone embraced their inner flirty natures.
But it wasn't all about the sexy moments – this year's intimacy week also showcased the all-important vulnerability needed for a healthy, loving relationship.
This included contestant Billy Belcher's heartfelt letter to his bride, Sierah, where he candidly reflected on his childhood and how his relationship with his father has affected him in past relationships.
This year's contestants were definitely taught the importance of the layers of intimacy – and if they didn't quite understand, it was discussed on the commitment ceremony couch with the experts.

Netflix quietly adds 'superb under-the radar comedy' set in Victorian London
A show fans dubbed 'one of the best British sitcoms in years' has now been added to Netflix. Initially airing on Channel 4 in 2019, the series Year of the Rabbit largely went under the radar despite receiving glowing reviews. Running for one season, the six-part series was created by Kevin Cecil and Andy Riley, who have worked on shows together including The Great Outdoors, Hyperdrive and Slacker Cats, as well as Veep, Little Britain and Spitting Image. This series of theirs was set in London in 1887 and followed 'a group of Victorian detectives including Detective Inspector Rabbit, a hardened boozehound who's seen it all, and his new, hapless, by-the-books partner.'. Matt Berry – best known for appearing in The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh and What We Do in the Shadows played Detective Rabbit, while Freddie Fox was Detective Sergeant Wilbur Strauss, Rabbit's junior partner. The pair's boss – Chief Inspector Hugh Wisbech was played by Alun Armstrong. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. It was teased of the series: 'While investigating a local murder, the chief of police's lewd but insightful adopted daughter becomes the country's first female officer. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'Together, the trio must fight crime while rubbing shoulders with street gangs, crooked politicians, Bulgarian princes, spiritualists, music hall stars, and the Elephant Man.' The show, which was added on Netflix this week, currently holds an impressive 94% rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes. 'It's a strange kind of comedy – but it is also brilliant,' Radio Times wrote in its review. 'The most surprising thing about the whole mad shebang was that it worked. It was really, really funny,' The Times admitted. 'Year of the Rabbit has Berry hitting the right comedic notes, helped by a funny supporting cast and a setting that's always ripe for comedy,' Decider shared. 'The Year of The Rabbit is not to be missed,' What She Said added. In their reviews, viewers said the show was 'superb' and 'one of the best period comedies they'd ever seen', while others begged for a second season. Although Year of the Rabbit was renewed, Channel 4 went on to reverse the decision in January 2021 following the Covid-19 pandemic and budget cuts. Layla Smith, chief executive of the show's production company OMG, said at the time: 'Year of the Rabbit is a victim of the devastating effects of COVID. […] IFC are very committed to the show, but we will need to find another partner — and we're working on that.', Before the show hit screens, Matt spoke about jumping at the chance to star. More Trending 'I just wanted to do something different. Those kind of shows based around that time, they're always dramatic and without much of a sense of humour. If you were to watch Peaky Blinders and one of the characters did a pratfall, followed by a forward roll, some kind of physical comedy, you'd think it was odd. But that was what I wanted to do. That was my inspiration. I just wanted to do something you hadn't seen before with that backdrop,' he said. The actor also spoke about previously working at the London Dungeon assisted this project. 'You have to know your history there because people would ask you. I don't know what it's like now but it certainly was back in the early 2000s, when I was there, you had to know about Jack the Ripper because people would ask. It just stayed with me. Then my interest in Victorian London widened. You use bits and pieces. View More » Year of the Rabbit is streaming on Netflix and Channel 4. Got a story? Katie Price sends son Harvey back to college early after he 'smashes' £3k TV
Katie Price previously revealed that Harvey is "on the verge of a heart attack" after tipping the scales at 30 stone Katie Price has revealed that her son Harvey had to return to college earlier than planned after he wrecked her telly. The ex-glamour model took to Snapchat to recount the episode in which her eldest boy "smashed" the £3,000 set. Harvey, aged 23, left his mum gobsmacked when his tantrum resulted in the need for a fresh TV. The mother of five relayed the tale to her social media fans before explaining to her son the repercussions of his behaviour. In the video, Katie captured Harvey, who is visually impaired due to septo-optic dysplasia, a brain development disorder, and also has autism and Prader-Willi Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that can lead to overeating. She described being roused by the noise of the telly breaking at six in the morning. In the footage, Katie, 47, enquired: "What has mummy just heard?" To which Harvey calmly responded: "Smashing the TV." Asking more about what happened, Harvey claimed something on the screen had annoyed him. However, she later expressed scepticism to her followers, saying nothing was probably on the screen at the time, reports the Mirror. Katie then informed Harvey: "You was going to college tomorrow to get some new meds [medication], but now when are you going? You are going now." A downcast Harvey uttered: "Oh god," as his mum clarified that she needed to send him back so she could sort out a new telly for the house. She labelled the whole scenario as "sad". Later, Harvey said sorry to the former glamour model and promised it wouldn't occur again. Katie insisted to her son: "Well you've got to go to collage now and get some meds." Katie commemorated Harvey's 23rd birthday last month with a heartfelt display of affection. She posted a lovely snapshot on Instagram showing her and Harvey cosying up in bed before his birthday festivities. On Bank Holiday Monday, Katie shared her delight over Harvey reaching another milestone on her Instagram stories. The charming post featured the pair lying cheek-to-cheek in bed, having a leisurely day relaxing at home. Brimming with anticipation for the celebration ahead, Katie said: "Bank holiday cuddles before lots of celebrations tomorrow." It comes amid Katie's transparency about Harvey's escalating health issues as he tipped the scales at 30 stone. In a frank conversation with her sister Sophie on The Katie Price Show, Katie did not shy away from discussing the gravity of their circumstances. "He's just under 30st and that's huge," she disclosed. "He's on the verge of a heart attack. He won't have a long life if he carries on putting more and more weight on." Katie then revealed that they are actively collaborating with a medical team to attempt to improve his health. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Katie Price declares 'Jordan is back' as alter-ego helps up bag huge AI deal
Former glamour model has signed a deal with American firm OhChat to revive her old alter-ego Jordan by creating an AI version of her - and it will be out tomorrow Katie Price is officially bringing back her old alter-ego Jordan while becoming the first British celebrity to trademark an artificial intelligence version of herself. The 47-year-old reality TV star has signed a deal with American firm OhChat, which describes itself as "the leading platform to live out your uncensored dreams through AI-powered text, voice and images." As part of the agreement, the mum-of-five had to record 30 phrases to say so that the company could develop an AI version of her. Promotional videos shared on social media including YouTube and Instagram show Jordan - her former glamour modelling persona - saying in a voice similar to Katie's: "It's Jordan here. No more looking at those cheeky mags." After confirming that the launch date is tomorrow, June 9, she promises fans: "You can have me all for yourself." The launch comes months after rumours began spreading that Katie was hoping to revive Jordan in a bid to emulate the early days of her career when she was best known for topless modelling. Katie has now described the Jordan days as the best of her life and said that the AI deal is "a genius move" and can make her "feel like her again." She told The Sun: "Jordan's back and now I'm in competition with Jordan. I love it and they've really captured my voice and personality - you see me moving and everything. It's scarily weird but fascinating." Katie added: "I couldn't be more excited to bring back the iconic Jordan, someone who I hold near and dear to my heart, and who my fans have been asking to see again. From my digital twin styling to its tone of voice, I wanted to be involved every step of the way to create the most authentic experience possible for my fans. Jordan is back, and my fans will absolutely love this." Meanwhile, a source told the newspaper that using AI allows Katie to "go back in time and bring back Jordan." The insider explained that she owns copyright but the deal allows her image to be used for anything from TV shows to OnlyFans - but she doesn't need to do it by herself, as it's all done for her. According to the source, Kate is also planning to do a photoshoot standing next to Jordan - and even do a TV special where she interviews her alter ego. Describing the new business venture, the insider said it is "all really exciting, if a bit surreal." We reported on rumours that Katie was looking to revive Jordan in a bid to regain her fortune back in September 2024. The former model was a prominent figure in the UK's glamour scene in the 1990s, amassing an estimated £45million fortune. However, her career and finances have declined in recent years, with Katie being declared bankrupt twice. At the time, sources said Katie believed that returning to her old-day job roots will bring in the money. A source told The Sun last year: "Katie is desperate to go back to the glory days and is convinced a return to her glamour modelling roots will make it happen." However, the insider added: "But she doesn't seem to understand that times have changed and there isn't an audience for Jordan these days." In the 1990s and early 2000s, Katie appeared on the covers of various magazines, including Loaded, Maxim, FHM, and American Playboy. She "retired" the Jordan persona after meeting her first husband, Peter Andre, in the I'm a Celebrity jungle in 2004. Katie shifted her focus to launching novels, beauty products, fragrances and electricals. After three divorces, Katie has found it challenging to sustain a career that once saw everything she touched turn into gold. In 2019, Katie was first declared bankrupt, owing creditors £3.2million, and then again last year due to an unpaid tax bill of £760,000. Her Mucky Mansion near Horsham, West Sussex, was repossessed after she failed to meet mortgage repayments, and she has been instructed to pay 40 per cent of her earnings to creditors.
