THE UK owners of Forgefield House at Gortagass near Kenmare have made very good use of the spacious dormer property they built in 2005.

Summercove, and the livin' is easy...at €995k Kinsale Charles Fort vicar's home
VICTORIAN and Georgian era homes, as well as 21st century mansions and architectural glass boxes line road out from Kinsale town and down the steep, diving hill of Summercove to the waters of the harbour, but, in age terms, they are only trotting after the much older burly boy on the hill, Charles Fort. Star turn: Charles Fort: file image 2012 Denis Scannell The vast military bastion fort by the mouth of the harbour was one of the largest building projects of the 17th century, serving as a defensive structure up the 1890s, and holding within its star shape, ramparts, magazines, batteries and bastions, soldiers' quarters, officers' messes and the Governor's house, as well as an infirmary. Matters less martial were to be overseen by clergy, and it understood that this Summercove home on the facing hall slope to the fort was built to house men of the cloth, as a clergyman or vicar's residence. Charles Cottage Today called Charles Cottage, the house on a hill and hung with Welsh slate in front is a private family home, about to change hands and fresh to market with a €995,000 AMV quoted by Scott O'Sullivan and Ann O'Mahony of Sherry FitzGerald. Resales along this cluster are pretty rare, they note and while it's right on the road in front, the reveal is a large, tiered back garden, over 90' deep rising up behind, with a central apple tree, as well as having a compact private garage set on the road's incline, just a few doors uphill from the terraced house itself. Externally the enclosed garden is a very good size, up above a rear courtyard and has block-built sheds, mature planting and an apple tree in central, pride of place,and currently hanging heavy with shiny red fruits. VERDICT: Visitors and Kinsale locals alike just love Summercove, with its Cornish village vibe (and, equally, seasonally heavy traffic on its narrow bends), the Bulman bar, sitting out at the pier, taking the Scilly Walk back to town. The price tag, just shy of a just shy €1m for a street-side three-bed, one-bath home, appears high, but Kinsale is home to more multi-million euro sales than any other Munster location, and Charles Cottage is one of the originals. The National Wax Museum plan to unveil a new likeness of Sinead O'Connor on her anniversary next year NEW OWNER Sinead O'Connor's former seaside home in Bray sells for €1.295m guide price valuation after apartment plan shot down SINEAD O'Connor's former Wicklow home has been sold for €1.295million, according to new figures on a state registry. At 3,713square feet, Montebello is well over three times the size of an average family home and includes six bedrooms and three bathrooms. The €1.295million sale is one of nine €1million-plus residential property sales to take place in the in-demand seaside town to date this year. The move to put the property on the market came five months after An Coimisiun Pleanala (ACP) refused planning permission to then owner Rachel Carthy to convert the property into five apartments. A number of local residents opposed the planned apartment scheme and ACP refused planning permission after finding that the proposal would result in an incongruous structure in terms of design. ACP, dismissing its own inspector's recommendation to grant planning permission, found that the scheme would adversely affect the architectural character of the seafront area. The property holds major significance for the late star, who lived in the property for 15 years. Sinead, 56, died on July 26, 2023, of natural causes at her London home. In August 2023, mourners left flowers outside the home as thousands of people gathered on the seafront outside Montebello to see her funeral cortege make its way to a private burial. Fans returned to the seafront home last year from as far away as New Zealand to pay homage to the Nothing Compares 2 U singer. 'I cried my eyes out for a fortnight' - emotional Sinead O'Connor's dad tells of losing his singer daughter and life without the star The seafront building has been in the public eye ever since the late star bought it at the height of the property boom in 2007, for €1.7m, only to slash the asking price to €950,000 when she put it back on the market in 2021. Fans had called for the house to be turned into a music foundation in honour of her memory. HOUSE HOPES Neighbour Ken Doyle previously told The Irish Sun: 'Lots of people are saying to me that we could turn the sadness about Sinead's dying into something positive by turning her house into a music school or a foundation in her honour. 'I think that would be a lovely thing. Sinead was involved in so many good causes. Her house could be so many things. "She's a world famous icon and I think visitors will be coming to Bray for many years to come to see where she lived.' Locals still remember Sinead, and last July, on the first anniversary of her death, they dedicated a bench to her outside the Martello Hotel in Bray. The bench was crafted by artisans from the Vale of Avoca and Bray Men's Sheds. STATUE SECOND GO And another tribute to the singer is due as the National Wax Museum plans to unveil a new likeness of Sinead on her anniversary next year. Museum bosses clashed with the O'Connor family over a previous statue which sparked worldwide outrage. The controversial likeness prompted Sinead's brother John O'Connor going on Liveline to blast it as 'hideous' and 'looking nothing like her'. Her brother claimed it made his sister Sinead look like 'something out of the Thunderbirds'. TEAM AT WORK However museum owner Paddy Dunning has revealed that rather than one sculptor being tasked with the new piece, a team of sculptors are working together to create the new Sinead waxwork. Paddy Dunning told The Irish Sun: 'I wasn't involved in the process of quality control at The National Wax Museum when we unveiled the last wax figure of Sinead but I am involved this time. 'I'm qualified to get it right because I knew Sinead since she was 18 and began her music career.
