MACC identifies two more companies in data centre graft
According to a source in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), several company directors have also been identified and will be called to assist in the investigation into the case.
'The investigation also found that the main suspect, the project manager, admitted to having asked for about 3% of the project value from any company that wanted to obtain a project from a prominent construction company,' he said yesterday.
The source informed that the bribe was done by leaking the tender price and helping to ensure that the company that paid the bribe was given priority to win the tender.
'This bribe was paid in stages according to the progress of the project payment and it is understood that there are several million more that have yet to be paid by the company to the suspect as per their agreement,' the source said, Bernama reported.
The media previously reported that a project manager of a prominent construction company who was detained for investigation into a corruption case involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender was willing to burn almost RM1mil in cash to destroy evidence after being shocked by the MACC raid through Ops Ways on Thursday.
According to sources, during the raid conducted at his home in Petaling Jaya, a team of officers found RM100 banknotes totalling almost RM1mil in flames.
As a result of a thorough inspection of the home, the MACC also found cash totalling about RM7.5mil stored in several pillow boxes, three Rolex, Omega and Cartier watches as well as jewellery such as rings and gold coins.
On Friday, the media reported that a contract manager, his wife and two men, aged in the 40s and 60s, were arrested by the MACC Investigation Division around the Klang Valley, believed to be involved in corruption involving the procurement of a data centre construction project tender in Johor worth about RM180mil.

KIP-REIT has potential to offer 8% yield
PETALING JAYA: KIP Real Estate Investment Trust (KIP-REIT) presents a 'compelling investment opportunity', given its attractive distribution yield and solid financial footing. According to Apex Securities, KIP-REIT offers a yield of exceeding 8% for the financial years of 2026 to 2028, well above the peer average of 5.6% and the Employees Provident Fund's 6.3% in 2025. The investment trust is also supported by a diversified asset base, its position as a one-stop community-centric mall curator serving the mass market, high 90% distribution policy, and strong balance sheet. As of end-June 2025, KIP-REIT's portfolio comprised 10 retail malls and four industrial assets valued at RM1.5bil with a combined net lettable area of 2.6 million sq ft and 1,178 tenancies. The portfolio maintained a robust average occupancy rate of 97.8%, underpinned by strong tenant relationships and footfall. A total of four retail and three industrial assets proposed acquisitions have yet to be finalised. Apex Securities initiated coverage on KIP-REIT with a 'buy' rating, with a target price of RM1.07 per unit based on a 7% target distribution yield. The target yield represented a 1.7-percentage-point premium over the peer average of 5.3%, which Apex Securities viewed as reasonable. The premium reflected compensation for KIP-REIT's lower asset quality and exposure to non-prime retail segments, which carried higher risk but offered more attractive returns, it said. According to Apex Securities, KIP-REIT is largely shielded for the recent expansion of the sales and service tax. Effective since July 1, 2025, an 8% service tax on rental and leasing services had been applied to commercial rentals with an annual turnover exceeding RM1mil. 'The tax is billed to tenants and remitted to Customs, so it will not directly impact KIP-REIT's earnings,' it added.

PTT Synergy to put RM2.3bil in smart warehouses
PTT Synergy Group group managing director Teo Swee Phin. PETALING JAYA: PTT Synergy Group Bhd has allocated RM2.3bil in capital expenditure (capex) over the next two years for its automated warehouse business, which will cover the development of four new automated warehouses. PTT Synergy, whose business activities include construction as well as warehouse solutions and distribution centres, is strengthening its offerings by providing high-tech total intralogistics and industrial solutions. Group managing director Teo Swee Phin said the company had 15 automated warehouse projects in the pipeline in Malaysia and aims to increase the contribution from the new robotics segment going forward. 'We have a building storage capacity of 600,000 pallets, which translates into six million sq ft of warehouse facilities. 'Our goal is to increase this to two million pallets within the next three to five years,' he told reporters after the grand opening of the company's first smart logistics facility, PTT Logistics Hub 1 in Sungai Buloh. PTT Logistics Hub 1, built on a 2.63-ha site with a gross development value of RM180mil, features 168,000 sq ft of warehouse space and an additional 90,000 sq ft dedicated to operations. It can accommodate about 31,000 pallet positions. Currently the facility has an occupancy rate of around 70% and is expected to reach full occupancy within the next two months. He explained that PTT Synergy had three core segments, namely, construction, real estate and the upcoming robotics segment. The robotics segment, which comprises the automated warehouses, is expected to take about three years to develop, with the goal of matching the income currently generated by the construction business. 'At present, our real estate segment is catching up rapidly and has already surpassed the construction segment in terms of profitability. 'While our construction division typically generates about RM24mil annually, the real estate segment is projected to generate RM50mil per year and targeted to reach RM100mil in the near future,' he said. —Bernama

ACWA Power's Commitment Boosts Malaysia As Key Regional Energy Player
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- ACWA Power's commitment to choose Malaysia to house its main hub in Southeast Asia has strengthened the country's position as a key player in regional sustainable energy and supports efforts toward a low-carbon economy, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Welcoming the world's largest water desalination company's decision to invest in clean energy infrastructure nationwide, Anwar said this is another positive development from the close cooperation between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, especially following his meeting with the ACWA Power founder during the recent ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit. On May 27, ACWA Power signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) to facilitate the implementation of strategic investment projects in clean energy infrastructure across Malaysia.
