KUCHING (July 19): The Gawai Madani celebration at Penrissen Camp today paid tribute to Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel and their families for their sacrifices in safeguarding national security and sovereignty.
First Infantry Division commander Maj-Gen Dato Khairul Anuar Abd Aziz said the event symbolised the Madani government's appreciation for the armed forces and aimed to strengthen patriotic spirit among ATM families and the local community.
'The Gawai Madani celebration is not only an expression of gratitude, but also aims to strengthen patriotic spirit among ATM families and the local community. Through such programmes, we are able to foster closer ties, instill love for the homeland, and nurture core values aligned with the Malaysia Madani aspirations.
'Additionally, this initiative provides an opportunity to honour and celebrate ATM families together with the local community in a spirit of harmony and togetherness.
'Today's strong turnout exemplifies the deep sense of solidarity between the Armed Forces and the people, founded on Madani values of unity, understanding, and social cohesion across Malaysia's diverse society,' he said when officiating at the event.
The celebration, part of the 'Jelajah Wira Madani' national initiative, brought together some 300 personnel and was graced by Eastern Field Command commander Lt-Gen Dato Mohd Sofi Md Lepi.
It also marked the Gawai Dayak festivities with heartfelt appreciation for the nation's frontline heroes.
In Sarawak, the collaboration between the federal and state governments and the ATM reflects a shared commitment to the welfare and morale of security personnel.

Continued support for Orang Asli veterans via VDM initiative

SUNGAI SIPUT: The Defence Ministry will ensure that no former members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), including the Orang Asli community, are left behind from the Veteran Desa Madani (VDM) programme. Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said VDM, organised together with the Malaysian Armed Forces Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV), marked Sungai Siput as the fifth location for the programme this year after Pengkalan Chepa, Gua Musang, Jeli and Slim River. Adly said that VDM is part of the 'Peduli Veteran Madani' (PVM) initiative, which focuses on Orang Asli veterans in line with the inclusive principles of the Malaysia MADANI policy. 'We focus on welfare, health, housing, education and socioeconomic empowerment of ATM veterans, especially those classified as asnaf and B40 groups. 'Orang asli veterans are part of the larger defence family and are not forgotten in the ministry's planning and aid distribution,' he told a media conference after officiating the Sungai Siput-level VDM programme at the Orang Asli One-Stop Centre (OAOSC) in Bawong here today. The event saw the distribution of ATM veteran cards to Orang Asli veterans, as well as Rahmah contributions and basic necessities to local residents and veteran associations. Earlier, Adly conducted welfare visits to two Orang Asli ATM veterans classified as asnaf, one non-Orang Asli asnaf veteran, and an active ATM veteran entrepreneur in the agriculture sector. - Bernama

LTAT Releases Touching Video In Conjunction With Warriors' Day

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- The Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) has produced a special short video titled 'Atuk, Apa Tu?' (Grandpa, What's That?) in conjunction with the 2025 Warriors' Day celebration. The video is a tribute to the sacrifices of the national heroes in defending the country's peace and sovereignty. LTAT chief executive officer Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said the video highlights the true story of retired Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) veteran Colonel (Rtd) Zulkifli Datuk Tahir, who lost his right leg after stepping on a landmine while leading the 9th Battalion RAMD reconnaissance platoon in an operation against communist insurgents in Gubir, Kedah, in 1986. He said the short film is not just a historical record but also a symbol of gratitude and deep appreciation for the service and courage of Malaysian soldiers. 'This Warriors' Day, we don't just want to commemorate, we want every Malaysian to appreciate it. 'Through this short film, we express our appreciation to those who dared to walk into danger so that the rest of us could walk peacefully into the future,' he said in a statement today. Mohammad Ashraf also pointed out that LTAT is not only responsible for planning sustainable retirements for Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel but is also committed to ensuring their legacy, dignity, and service are continuously honoured. 'Colonel Zulkifli's story reminds us that behind every uniform is a person, a family, and a future that was forever changed,' he said. The 3-minute 31-second video was produced in collaboration with ATM and the Strategic Communications Unit of the Ministry of Defence through the Military Training Academy in Sungai Besi, Selangor.
