Malegaon blast accused trained Gauri Lankesh murder suspects, Karnataka SIT finds: Report
Both men, also wanted in the 2007 Mecca Masjid and Ajmer Sharif blast cases, are suspected to have served as trainers at covert arms and explosives camps attended by several of the 17 people arrested for Lankesh's murder, Indian Express reported.

These training camps were organised by groups linked to Sanatan Sanstha between 2011 and 2017, with five camps in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat attended by 'guest trainers,' the SIT chargesheet states.
Kalsangra and Dange, linked to the right-wing group Abhinav Bharat, are among seven men connected to multiple bombings from 2006 to 2009 who have disappeared. Others include Amit Hakla (alias Ashwini Chauhan), wanted in the Samjhauta and Malegaon cases, and Sanatan Sanstha-linked Sarang Akolkar, Rudra Patil, and Jay Prakash, all wanted in the 2009 Goa blast case.
The Karnataka SIT, based on statements from accused and witnesses, created sketches of the guest trainers. One of them, Suresh Nair, an Abhinav Bharat member and accused in the 2007 Ajmer blast, was arrested in Gujarat in 2018 and identified as 'Bade Babaji,' a trainer who attended camps in Gujarat and Jalna. His arrest suggested that Dange and Kalsangra could have similarly posed as trainers at these camps.
The SIT also linked training activities to other murders, including those of Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare, and M M Kalburgi, claiming a covert group aligned with Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti operated a network to eliminate ideological opponents. The camps provided training in IEDs, subterfuge, and arms use. Arrested persons described trainers with titles like 'Babaji' and 'Guruji,' dressed as monks.
The SIT's 9,235-page chargesheet, filed in November 2018, states that Sanatan Sanstha members followed militant Hindutva ideology guided by the group's publication Kshatra Dharma Sadhana.
One witness turned hostile during the ongoing trial in May 2025, but the SIT maintains that missing Malegaon accused played a crucial role in creating a trained ideological cell.

Dharmasthala secret burials: SIT defers inspection of whistleblower's 13th site after clashes
All eyes are now on the last of the 13 sites identified by the whistleblower in the Dharmasthala secret burials case. It remains the only spot yet to be inspected by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in its search for remains of the bodies that the former sanitation worker allegedly buried under duress in the temple town between 1998 and 2014. Though the site beside the bathing ghat along the Netravati river was expected to be dug up on Thursday, the SIT put off the inspection as a tense situation prevailed around Dharmasthala after Wednesday's clash involving a few YouTubers and some residents of the town. In the eight days of inspections since last Tuesday, the SIT has been able to recover fragments of two skeletons. The location sat at the southern edge of the check dam constructed on the river, along the road that goes to Ajekuri village, near the town. Close to the site is also the bathing ghat, which pilgrims arriving at Dharmasthala visit regularly to take a dip in the river. Adding to the difficulty in the inspection was a power line running along the 13th site, which had the most number of bodies secretly buried, according to some lawyers involved in the case. Locals say the spot was one of the locations that went underwater when devastating floods hit the region in 2019. Mud was also dumped over the years at the site for the construction of the power line, they add. Because of this, the SIT is learnt to be considering the use of ground-penetrating radar to detect any skeletal remains around the site. On Thursday, police stepped up security in Dharmasthala and neighbouring areas in the wake of the attack on YouTubers over their alleged 'negative depiction' of the temple town in their coverage of the secret burials case. A reporter of a Kannada news TV channel was also targeted, outside a hospital at Ujire, where five YouTube were being treated for injuries they had sustained in the earlier attack. The Dakshina Kannada police have registered seven FIRs in connection with the assaults as well as a protest held in front of the Dharmasthala police station without permission. The whistleblower has claimed that the bodies possibly belonged to victims of sexual assaults. Shalarth ID Scam: Education officers to go on strike on Friday over arrest of officers
The All Maharashtra Teaching Service Gazetted Officers Association announced a one-day strike on Friday over the arrest of educational officers for their alleged involvement in the Shalarth ID scam in Nagpur without 'principles of natural justice' being followed. Fake IDs of non-existent teachers were created in the Nagpur division for payment of salaries under the scam. At least 16 people, including senior education officers, school principals, and institution heads, have been arrested. On July 30, police arrested two primary education officers Rohini Kumbhar and Siddheshwar Kaluse of Nagpur Zilla Parishad who allegedly created bogus IDs on the Shalarth portal. The press release by the association says, 'We demand that the real criminals who committed the crime should be found as soon as possible and strict legal action be taken against them… However, the main suspects in this case have not been arrested yet. The Education Officer and the Divisional Deputy Director of Education have been arrested without any inquiry for merely countersigning the MTR regarding salary, when they themselves have not passed any orders regarding bogus Shalarth IDs.' The release also said that due to these arrests, an atmosphere of fear has been created among the officers in the department. The association demanded that no arrests of education officers should be made without the permission of the education department and that an inquiry, legal action against the culprits by the SIT, and education officers who cooperate with the investigation should not be arrested. Earlier this year, FIRs were filed at Sadar Police Station and Cyber Police Station in Nagpur under charges including cheating, forgery, criminal breach of trust, conspiracy and offences under the IT Act. In May, the special investigation team (SIT) investigating the alleged 'Shalarth ID' scam had found that over 500 teachers were recruited in contravention of rules. The press release was signed by the association's president Sheshrao Bade, chairman Ravindra Vani, general secretary Saroj Jagtap, treasurer Dr Jyoti Parihar, and office secretary Samarjit Patil.
