Pumas issue rally cry for supporters to paint Mbombela Stadium pink for SA Cup final

The Airlink Pumas have issued a call to the people of the Lowveld to come out in their numbers this Saturday for the looming SA Cup final against the Suzuki Griquas.
Mbombela Stadium will host the SA Cup final for the first time this coming Saturday, and with more than 3 000 people having attended the semi-final against the Sanlam Boland Kavaliers last week, the Pumas have called on the Pumas faithful to show their support once again.
'Last weekend was amazing, beating the Boland Kavaliers here in the semi-final, and I just want to thank all the supporters for wearing their pink and coming out in their thousands, what a great weekend it was,' said head coach Jimmy Stonehouse, who also issued an invite to all to come out and watch the game on Saturday.
You can watch Stonehouse's call to the Pumas faithful, here.
Airlink Pumas CEO Marius van Rensburg echoed Stonehouse's sentiments, adding that there will be more than just rugby on show at the stadium this Saturday.
There will also be a curtain-raiser fixture as Hazyview Rugby Club will face off with the Laeveld Ratels in an official MRU Mayor's League game that kicks off at 15:30.
Local singer Zané van Zyl will also be performing as she will sing the national anthem prior to the game.
If you would like to win tickets to this Saturday's match you are in luck, as Lowvelder is running a competition in which 10 pairs of tickets and two Airlink Pumas jerseys are up for grabs.
All you need to do to enter is post a photo of yourself wearing pink this Friday and make sure you tag Lowvelder with the hashtag #PumaPinkFriday.
We will select our winners from these posts and be in touch!
Tickets can be purchased at the stadium or online at Computicket and cost R50 for adults and R20 for children.
The match will kick off at 18:30.

309 Lowvelders set to take on 2025 Comrades Marathon

So, your running friends seem to have gone missing. They're out late, they're eating and drinking less, and they seem to be even less sane than normal. Well if you guessed that it's Comrades Marathon time again, you'd be correct. As is Lowveld tradition, Nelspruit Marathon Club held their annual Comrades Breakfast Run on May 31. Runners enjoyed their choice of a 5km, 10km or 20km run out on the ring road, starting at Mbombela Stadium. No official winners are recorded and instead everyone runs together socially to enjoy a last run before the ultimate running test. This Sunday, tens of thousands of runners from around the world will flock to KZN to lace up their running shoes and take on the world's largest and oldest ultramarathon. The 2025 edition will be a down run, with the race starting in Pietermaritzburg and ending in Durban, an 89km route. It won't be any regular race this year either, as the 24 000 entrants who have put themselves down for the ultimate human race will make up the largest field for a down run in the history of the Comrades. This makes every participating Lowvelder a special part of Comrades history. Not only will every participating Lowvelder have a slice of the historical pie, but a good number will be aiming for personal milestones, too. Perhaps most significantly are Johannes Nyalunga of Ngodwana Marathon Club and Calvin Khoza of the Legogote Villagers who will both be running their 30th Comrades Marathon this year. There are also three runners, all from Nedbank LVCC Running Club, who are shooting for their green number. Adele Smit, Joshua Sibiya and Joseph Khoza will all be running their 10th Comrades Marathon come Sunday. Deon Cronje, also of Nedbank LVCC, is running his 25th Comrades while Chris Schutte is making his debut aiming for a silver sub-seven hour time. The Legogote Villagers' cohort will feature six novices this year, as well as Melusi and Delisiwe Mbatha who will face the ultimate test of their relationship – running the Comrades together. Johnson Mamba, who started running two years ago at the age of 60, will be making his Comrades debut as the only runner from KaNyamazane Marathon Club taking part. Bella's Athletics Club will have the largest field of Lowveld runners on Sunday as no fewer than 72 have entered the race. Of the 309 Lowvelders taking part, 216 are men and 93 are women. The largest age group is the men 40+ with 77 runners, and the largest women's age group is the senior group with 39. While the Comrades on any normal day is a serious test, this weekend will be exponentially tougher as some frigid temperatures are expected. According to Snow Report SA, there is snowfall possible in eight of the country's nine provinces this weekend. With snow expected in KZN from Monday, they predict Comrades Sunday will be very chilly indeed. Regardless, this event will bring out the best in all runners taking part, and Lowvelder wishes all the local runners the best in their pursuit of Comrades glory! > Photos: Blake Linder At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. OPINION: Loftus showdown between Bulls and Sharks is SA's biggest match this year

A place in the grand final against Leinster or Glasgow awaits the winner of Saturday's URC semifinal in Pretoria. It is not a final, but Saturday's clash between the Bulls and Sharks at Loftus Versfeld is possibly the biggest match that local rugby fans will see in South Africa this year. Of course, the Barbarians, and Italy and Georgia and Australia and Argentina will play against the Springboks in the coming months, and those matches are sure to be entertaining, but none will match the intensity of the Bulls taking on the Sharks for a place in the United Rugby Championship final. There have been other local URC derbies this year and there was the SA Cup final between the Pumas and Griquas a few weeks ago, and there will also be some big Currie Cup clashes, including the final, later this season, but Saturday's showdown at Loftus has all the ingredients to be a classic, memorable affair. Bulls and Sharks have much to prove Both teams are desperate to win the URC title, maybe the Bulls more so after falling short in the final game on two previous occasions, the latest setback being just a year ago when they were shocked at home by Glasgow. There is a feeling the Bulls deserve to win the URC title, and that it is their right. They have played quality rugby to again give themselves a chance, but getting over the line won't be easy; it never is. The Sharks, meanwhile, have invested heavily in getting some of the best players into their set-up, but have only the second tier Challenge Cup win last season to show for their efforts. The players will be keen to show they're good enough to go all the way in the URC, too, and pay back the faith shown in them by their wealthy backers. Then there are all the star players in both teams, and boy, do the Bulls and Sharks have quality in all departments. There will be plenty of rivalry and competition between a number of the players so we could also be in for a spicy affair. There's a lot on the line at Loftus on Saturday. May every rugby fan enjoy the occasion; it may just end up being the best match of the year in South Africa.
