'We have to make amends in terms of our performance.'
That is what Lions head coach Mziwakhe Nkosi wants to see from his team in another tough encounter away from home against the Pumas on Saturday afternoon.
Following their loss in Wellington against the Boland Cavaliers, the Johannesburg side is in a vital must-win duel, and the supporters will be excited for the match at the Nelspruit Rugby Club (2 pm start).
'If we make amends in (our) performance, then hopefully the result will go our way,' Nkosi said ahead of the clash.

'That said, the Pumas turned up in a big way against the Bulls (at Loftus), who themselves are a strong outfit and up until the start of last weekend, we were the log-leaders. In that respect, there have been many serious words and raw conversations, not in disrespect to Boland, but about our performance, or lack thereof.
'We let ourselves down in a big way and want to make up for it by delivering an incredible response.'
Nkosi added that they are excited about the game being 'taken to the people' and they look forward to playing at the Nelspruit Rugby Club.
He made a couple of changes to the side that lost to the Cavaliers, bringing in enforcer lock Ruben Schoeman and playmaker-flyhalf Lubabalo Dobela. Loose forward Renzo du Plessis will also add some grunt to the starting pack. The addition of Dobela could give their dangerous backline some direction on the attack.
'It didn't go really well for us with our set pieces, and our lineouts were off-colour, and there were one or two inaccurate and unforced errors at scrum time. I believe we remedied that. Coming up against the Pumas, known for the performance they dished up last week, we are aware of what we are facing. We are not disillusioned.

Fun day of fire drills and football for Osizweni children

Fun day of fire drills and football for Osizweni children The Ballito Lions Club treated 45 underprivileged pupils from Osizweni Primary School to a day of sport and fun at Townsend Park on Saturday. The school, located in Driefontein in Upper Tongaat, has 200 pupils and does not charge fees. Despite government funding, it still faces shortages of uniforms, stationery, food, furniture and maintenance. Earlier this year, the Lions donated 80 chairs, shoes and jerseys for winter. 'This school is in dire straits and needs a lot of assistance,' said club president Paul Naidoo. The children, accompanied by teachers, travelled to the Lions' Ballito clubhouse for breakfast before playing soccer and basketball. A highlight was an inspirational talk and fire safety demonstration by the KwaDukuza Fire and Emergency Service. 'KwaDukuza municipality was generous enough to send the team. They told the children they too could be firefighters one day,' said Naidoo. After a braai lunch, the pupils enjoyed music and dancing before receiving grocery hampers. It was the third time in recent years the Lions have hosted Osizweni Primary. Stay in the loop with The North Coast Courier on Facebook, X, Instagram & YouTube for the latest news. Griquas triumph over gutsy Sharks in thrilling Currie Cup clash

The Griquas concluded their home assignments in Kimberley in the Currie Cup with a hard-fought 26–17 win over the Sharks to push them to the summit of the standings. With the strong wind behind their backs in the second half, Griquas bounced back from a 7–10 deficit at the break to see off a much-improved Sharks outfit. Griquas will spend at least 21 hours at the top of the standings, with three matches still to be played in the fourth round of fixtures. However, they will now play their remaining Currie Cup matches away from their Diamond City fortress. The Sharks, on the other hand, suffered their fourth successive defeat of the competition, with JP Pietersen's team now still occupying the seventh position in the eight-team Premier Division. Only Western Province — with zero points — have had a worse start to the campaign. But Pietersen would have been buoyed by his young team's display, as they fought hard on the hard surface in chilly and windy conditions. Unfortunately, while playing against the strong wind in the second half, they were eventually blown away by the home team. Junior Springbok flyhalf Vusi Moyo put the Sharks ahead with an early penalty. But the visitors were down to 14 men soon after when captain and No. 8 Nick Hatton was sent to the sin-bin for stopping Griquas from taking a quick tap close to their tryline.
