‘We're sweating' – Three Royal Ascot runners the bookies DREAD winning amid surge of support for Aidan O'Brien ‘freak'

The Irish Suna day ago

BOOKIES have revealed the three Royal Ascot runners they DREAD winning - amid an 'unusual' surge of support for an Aidan O'Brien 'freak'.
With a whopping 35 races to get stuck into across five days, Ascot presents a punting puzzle arguably like no other.

But one filly is standing head and shoulders above the rest after she absolutely blitzed rivals on debut.
Zelaina was all the rage with punters who saw the
Jockey James Doyle could hardly hide his delight after and admitted the potential star had 'a hell of an engine'.
She was immediately made 4-1 favourite for Wednesday's Queen Mary on the back of that, but William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps revealed the money had not stopped pouring in.
He said: "Royal Ascot is only around the corner and we're champing at the bit for the five-day extravaganza to start.
"While there's not quite the same ante-post fervour around this meeting as there is for Cheltenham, there are still a number of horses who'll soon have us sweating under our top hats and tails.
"Zelaina created a huge impression on her debut for Karl Burke, and we laid a good chunk at 4-1 for her to win the Queen Mary.
"And after Burke was so effusive in his praise for the filly, she's been backed again into 7-4.

"She is currently our worst liability across the meeting."

Zelaina
– Queen Mary Stakes – 7-4 from 4-1
Rosallion
– Queen Anne Stakes – 3-1 from 9-2
Storm Boy
– Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes – 6-1 from 16-1
My Cloud
– Royal Hunt Cup – 5-1 from 8-1
The Liffey
– Royal Hunt Cup – 10-1 from 20-1

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: "We've managed to dodge two big liabilities already with Kyprios and Albert Einstein sadly ruled out of the meeting, but it's in the handicaps where we've also seen horses catch our eye.
"In the Royal Hunt Cup, we've had to cut My Cloud into 5-1 favourite from 8-1 after some bullish comments from Roger Varian in a stable tour.
"Varian is a master at bringing horses like this through the grades, and this fella looks like one we'll want to get beat next week.
"There's also been some notable money for Joseph O'Brien's The Liffey in the same race.
"The Carriganóg team think this guy is a really well-handicapped runner, and that kind of confidence has to be respected.
"Between My Cloud and The Liffey, the Royal Hunt Cup could be a race we're watching from behind the back of the sofa."
Phelps picked out one superstar miler and a potentially awesome O'Brien sprinter as the other two they fear the most.
He said: "While Rosallion didn't win the Lockinge, punters seem to have warmed to him since.
"He was 9-2 straight after his defeat to Lead Artist at Newbury, but it seems that many think that form will be reversed in the Queen Anne, so much so that he's now a 3-1 shot.
"We expect him to be popular on the day too once people realise they can back last year's uber impressive St James's Palace winner at around 3-1.
"One liability that's a little more unusual is Storm Boy in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee.
"He looked fairly lacklustre when making his Irish debut at the Curragh last month, and he drifted right out to 16s for Royal Ascot afterwards but has been all the rage since.
"He's now a strong 6-1 shot and the weight of money behind him suggests that Aidan O'Brien has worked his magic on this Aussie import."

100-1 Royal Ascot horse ‘could be one of the biggest gambles ever' after odds DESTROYED for top trainer

A little-known horse who has seen his odds OBLITERATED from 100-1 into 8-1 could be 'one of the biggest Royal Ascot gambles ever', petrified bookies have confirmed. Trainer Joseph O'Brien, son of iconic handler Aidan, has watched the odds on The Liffey tumble down repeatedly in the build-up to the world's biggest Flat racing festival. 1 Joseph O'Brien is a trainer who knows how to land a punt - and he could seal one of the biggest ever at Royal Ascot if The Liffey wins the Royal Hunt Cup Credit: PA The four-year-old gelding has raced just four times in his life and used to be trained by the Ballydoyle king. But The Liffey was moved to Joseph's Kilkenny yard in April this year, a month before he made his comeback after 350 days off the track. Interestingly, John Magnier and Derrick Smith, two-thirds of the all-conquering Coolmore syndicate, kept their share in the horse while Michael Tabor opted out. Two more owners came in ahead of his encouraging fourth-placed finish at odds of 16-1 in a Listed contest over seven furlongs at Naas. While he might not have looked a world-beater on the occasion, his subsequent mark of 98 has led many to believe the handicapper has seriously underestimated him. And a gamble from odds of 100-1 last month into just 8-1 now suggests the son of No Nay Never is capable of much more. While it doesn't take stacks of cash to move a market in the Royal Hunt Cup handicap this far out, bookies have certainly taken notice of the monster plunge. Paddy Power's Paul Binfield said: "We first put The Liffey into the race at 100-1 and we took plenty of bets at fancy prices. Most read in Horse Racing "Those wagers meant he was already a decent loser for a handicap so far from post-time, but then when we were around the 20-1 mark momentum really took off and he's now incredulously into just 8-1. "He's already a bad ante-post result for us. "It's a little too early to say it's turning into one of the biggest ever Royal extravaganza gambles we've ever encountered. "Mainly because the money we've seen is unlikely to be of the scale of liabilities we'll be holding on the actual day. "But should the momentum continue in the way that it has, and punters get stuck into the No Nay Never gelding on that Wednesday, it's certainly not inconceivable that it might be up there." King Charles' Royal Ascot runner SMASHED in betting after Willie Mullins books ‘world's best jockey' for £57,000 ride

KING CHARLES' big Royal Ascot runner has been SMASHED in the betting - after Willie Mullins booked the 'world's best jockey' for the £57,000 ride. Four-year-old gelding Reaching High has 3 Willie Mullins has booked Ryan Moore to ride King Charles and Queen Camilla's Royal Ascot horse Reaching High in the Ascot Stakes Credit: PA 3 The King and Queen will be desperate for a winner at the Royal meeting Credit: PA 3 Ryan Moore, the man many regard as the best jockey in the world, has been booked for the big ride on Reaching High Credit: PA He was beaten a short-head on his first run for Mullins at Leopardstown in May over just 1m4f. The Ascot Stakes, to be run at 5pm on Tuesday, is over a mile further, so Reaching High's stamina will be massively tested. But if anyone can get him ready then it's Mullins - and the jockey booking is a big help too. Mullins - who's also Moore rode Estimate to Ascot Gold Cup glory for the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2013. And he is in awesome form this year, winning the Oaks and Coronation Cup at Epsom last weekend as well a whole host of other Group 1s. Layers at Ladbrokes rushed to cut Reaching High's odds for the Ascot Stakes, where victory is worth a shade under £57,000. He was 10-1 before the Moore jockey booking became public news and is now into just 6-1. Most read in Horse Racing The firm's Cal Gildart said: "With Ryan Moore's two Epsom Group 1 victories fresh in the mind, Reaching High's Ascot Stakes odds almost halved on the news of his booking. "Punters are clearly high on the King and Queen's horse, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him go off as favourite." Speaking previously of his delight to train a Royal runner, Grand National-winning trainer Mullins said: "It's an honour and a big surprise to be asked. "It's nice to have a horse in that position and it's very exciting. "I'm probably looking at the two-and-a-half-mile race (Ascot Stakes) but we'll look at both staying races on the first day. "When you look at his pedigree, it's all stamina. He seems to stay very well."
