Operation Sindoor marked the most extensive use of India's integrated air defense since Balakot. After Pakistan launched drones and missiles, India responded with a full-scale activation of its multi-layered defense system. IACCS coordinated real-time responses across the Air Force, Army, and Navy. DRDO's Akash missiles were reportedly used alongside SPYDER, MRSAM, S-400, and other systems. AFNET enabled live tracking and faster command cycles, while over 100 Akashteer C2 centres backed the defense grid. Watch

August 14, 1985, Forty Years Ago: Assam Solution

Efforts to solve the Assam problem gathered momentum with indications that an agreement was near with respect to the long-pending issue. Official sources told ENS that the situation was still 'fluid' and discussions were 'continuing', but that an agreement was likely to be reached. The agitation leaders held extensive talks with the Home Minister, S B Chavan, in the morning, and later in the afternoon, Assam Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia had a 30-minute meeting with him. Building Collapse Fifty-two people were killed and many injured, 24 of them seriously, in the worst-ever house collapse in Bombay when a part of Mombatiwala chawl building number 47 situated at Nagpada came down. An unidentified number of persons are feared trapped in the debris, according to the fire brigade and local residents. Among those trapped are some persons who were sleeping in taxis on which debris fell. Train Explosion Four people, including two Army personnel, were killed and 35 injured when an explosion occurred in the military coach of the 52-Dn Sealdah Express between Gagwal and Hiranagar stations of the Jammu-Pathankot section of Northern Railway. The cause of the explosion is not known. Fire brigade personnel from Sambha, Katwa and Hiranagar rushed to the spot and put out the fire. The spokesman said passengers travelling in other coaches were safe. Bank Workers' Strike The strike by the All-India Confederation of Bank Officers Organisations (AICOBOO) paralysed work in nationalised banks in the country. While the strike was total in most cities, in the capital it affected the working of the banks only partially. Some banks even claimed that their branches functioned 'normally'. The AICOBOO is demanding pay revision with retrospective effect from July 1, 1983, a 16.7 per cent increase in salary against 15 per cent announced by the government, and withdrawal of the decision regarding recategorisation of posts.

Pakistan took 48 hours to admit intrusion, refused to take back body initially: BSF

New Delhi : In a departure from the usual exchange between the two border forces, it took the Pakistani Rangers more than 48 hours to acknowledge a protest note by their Indian counterpart, the Border Security Force, reportedly after waiting for a nod from their senior commanders in Lahore, BSF officials aware of the matter said. The officials said the Pakistani Rangers neither acknowledged the protest note over the intrusion bid — a usual exercise — nor took back the body initially.(Representative image/AP) They said the Rangers did not acknowledge a protest note by the BSF after the latter shot a Pakistani intruder in the Kathua region of Jammu on Monday. The intruder, BSF officials said, who was shot in his legs, succumbed to his injuries the same day. The officials said the Rangers, however, neither acknowledged the protest note over the intrusion bid — a usual exercise — nor took back the body of the intruder after a flag meeting between the two forces on Monday. They added that the Rangers again refused to acknowledge the note during a flag meeting on Tuesday. 'They finally acknowledged the protest note on Wednesday afternoon but did not immediately take body the back. This is unusual because in the past the sector commander or company commander would receive the protest note. But this time, their personnel said they would first get clearance from their headquarters in Lahore,' the officer added. Monday's intrusion bid was the first reported in the Jammu region since India launched military strikes on targets within Pakistan as well as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during Operation Sindoor.

With repeated instances of molestation and harassment of protesters, especially at the last two "Reclaim The Night" protests, Lalbazar has issued a list of dos and don'ts for the various citizens' protests lined up on that day. "Elaborate police arrangements for Thursday and Friday will be made for all planned rallies called by multiple groups, along with the official programmes. We are instructing officers not to indulge in any altercation and to swing into action whenever any complaint from woman protesters reaches them, irrespective of whether it is written. We will also ask local police to keep vigil on main roads at night to ensure protesters face no harassment," said an officer. General security has also been beefed up in the city ahead of Independence Day, senior officers said. "Adequate measures have been taken for the Independence Day programme on Red Road on Friday. All entry and exit points of Kolkata have been kept under surveillance. All units have been briefed on the security plan," said an officer. Vigil has been tightened around Red Road, and traffic will be suspended on the stretch from 10 pm on Friday. "We will have to be on our toes. The stretch has been divided into 20 sectors under the charge of a deputy commissioner-level officer," he added. About 500 CCTV cameras will keep watch on the 2 km radius of the programme, including Park Street, Esplanade, Outram Road, Kidderpore Road, and some port areas.
