Dodgers' Muncy on injured list with knee bruise after collision with White Sox's Taylor
He had a MRI that showed no structural damage. He's expected to be out about six weeks.
'It was obviously amazing hearing the news that nothing was torn, nothing was ripped,' said Muncy, who was walking gingerly. 'That was obviously a huge sigh of relief for me, but it still sounds like too long of a time in my head.'
He left in the sixth inning Wednesday night after a collision with Chicago White Sox center fielder Michael A. Taylor, who was attempting a steal. Muncy took a throw from catcher Will Smith and tagged out Taylor.
Muncy sprawled on his back as a Dodgers trainer came out to check on him. He had to be helped off the field and was barely able to put any weight on his left leg.
'It was tough news but it was also great news in terms of when you look at the play and just the injury that could have happened,' Muncy said.
A White Sox trainer checked on Taylor, who sustained a bruised back and left the game.
The incident occurred just before Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw got his 3,000th career strikeout against Vinny Capra to end the inning. There was a brief delay before Muncy and Taylor left the field.
'The first thought that was really going through my head was as I'm laying on the ground was 'Dang, I have to make Kersh sit there and think about stuff right now.' I really was not happy about that,' Muncy said.
'I'm in the X-ray room and heard the crowd roar and I was kind of like, 'Man, missed it.' Honestly, that was the most heartbreaking thing to me.'
Muncy is hitting .250 with 13 home runs and 55 RBI in 81 games this season.
The Dodgers recalled outfielder Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he batted .292 with eight homers, 37 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 66 games. He was acquired in April from the Athletics in exchange for minor league pitcher Carlos Duran after being designated for assignment on March 30.

How to watch Astros at Dodgers, starring Shohei Ohtani on the mound and a chorus of boos
The Houston Astros visit the Los Angeles Dodgers in Chavez Ravine. For those about to watch or attend this weekend's series, familiarize yourselves with this sound: Fox is also available for free over the air. This particular rivalry became a pressure point for the entire sport after Houston was snared in the sign-stealing scandal of the 2017 World Series. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich published an essential report on all the improprieties. The Astros organization was eventually punished with fines, manager suspensions and docked draft picks … but every single pro sports enterprise would gleefully take that on the chin for a championship ring. Advertisement For Dodgers fans, it was searing enough to lose a World Series title under such murky circumstances. The frustrations ballooned when they were unable to vent it out at the ballpark until years later. The scandal broke after the 2019 season. The 2020 season was played in a bubble with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, and 2021 had marked attendance limits. Houston hosted the interleague meeting in 2022, and it wasn't until the following year when Dodgers fans could, in their home stadium, display the fury of a thousand dented trash cans. Animosities and theatrics aside, this rivalry defines so much of MLB history across the last 10 seasons. Since 2016, the Dodgers and Astros have combined for four World Series triumphs, four more pennants and nine 100-win campaigns. Surprise surprise, they both hit this weekend with sizable division leads and deep playoff aspirations. Houston is in a tough spot from its recent injuries, though. Slugger Yordan Álvarez remains out with a right hand fracture. Budding star shortstop Jeremy Peña hurt his ribs last weekend and is now on the IL. Brendan Rodgers and Chas McCormick have also missed time. Los Angeles is on a torrid stretch dating back to June 14, with 15 wins in their last 18 tries. The team has a fresh major injury of its own, though. Mainstay third baseman Max Muncy hobbled off the field Wednesday after a collision tag with White Sox baserunner Michael A. Taylor. He is now expected to be out six weeks. Injuries suck, but there are enough main attractions to make this series a banger. Jose Altuve may be one of the last contemporaries with a shot at 3,000 hits. Clayton Kershaw just joined the 3,000 strikeout club. Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts and Will Smith are still among the best at their positions. And Saturday's primetime slot on Fox gives us an incredible pitching matchup. The flame-throwing lefty Framber Valdez comes in with a 9–4 record and 2.72 ERA. He's matched by the one-of-a-kind Shohei Ohtani, who will be on the mound for the fourth time this season — and on his birthday. May we never stop marveling at the NL home run leader moonlighting with a triple-digit fastball. BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Spain winger Nico Williams has agreed to long-term deal that will keep him at Athletic Bilbao through 2035, the Spanish club said Friday. Family of Liverpool player Diogo Jota and his brother gather at chapel ahead of wake and funeral
GONDOMAR, Portugal (AP) — Family and friends of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother are gathering Friday at a church where their bodies have been brought for a wake and funeral, after the Portuguese soccer players were killed in a car crash in Spain. Some hugged and wept before entering the Capela da Ressurreição São Cosme, where the funeral for the siblings is planned for Saturday. Jota, 28, and his 25-year-old brother, André Silva, were found dead near Zamora in northwestern Spain after the Lamborghini they were driving crashed on an isolated stretch of highway just after midnight on Thursday and burst into flames. Their bodies were repatriated to Portugal after being identified by the family, Spanish government officials said. Jota and his parents both have homes in Gondomar, where he started his playing career as a child. Gondomar is a working-class town next to Porto, where Jota was born. Jota's death occurred two weeks after he married long-time partner Rute Cardoso while on vacation from a long season where he helped Liverpool win the Premier League title. The couple had three children, the youngest born last year. Spanish police are investigating the cause of the crash, which did not involve another vehicle, they said. His brother Silva played with Portuguese club Penafiel in the lower divisions. Condolences poured in from Portuguese officials and the world of soccer as news of the accident spread. Liverpool fans laid flower wreaths and team scarves outside Anfield stadium, while a moment of silence was held before Portugal played Spain at the Women's European Championship in Switzerland. The loss was felt sharply in his hometown, especially at his first soccer club, where Jota started playing at age 9. 'He never forgot his roots, nor his friends, because he had a group of friends who were with him in the training here in Gondomar and who he even invited from time to time to go and watch Liverpool games in England,' Gondomar SC director Anselmo Serra told The Associated Press. 'They were like a group of friends that he never forgot over the years.' ___ Wilson reported from Barcelona, Spain. ___ AP soccer:
