Dodgers' Muncy on injured list with knee bruise after collision with White Sox's Taylor
He had a MRI that showed no structural damage. He's expected to be out about six weeks.
'It was obviously amazing hearing the news that nothing was torn, nothing was ripped,' said Muncy, who was walking gingerly. 'That was obviously a huge sigh of relief for me, but it still sounds like too long of a time in my head.'
He left in the sixth inning Wednesday night after a collision with Chicago White Sox center fielder Michael A. Taylor, who was attempting a steal. Muncy took a throw from catcher Will Smith and tagged out Taylor.
Muncy sprawled on his back as a Dodgers trainer came out to check on him. He had to be helped off the field and was barely able to put any weight on his left leg.
'It was tough news but it was also great news in terms of when you look at the play and just the injury that could have happened,' Muncy said.
A White Sox trainer checked on Taylor, who sustained a bruised back and left the game.
The incident occurred just before Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw got his 3,000th career strikeout against Vinny Capra to end the inning. There was a brief delay before Muncy and Taylor left the field.
'The first thought that was really going through my head was as I'm laying on the ground was 'Dang, I have to make Kersh sit there and think about stuff right now.' I really was not happy about that,' Muncy said.
'I'm in the X-ray room and heard the crowd roar and I was kind of like, 'Man, missed it.' Honestly, that was the most heartbreaking thing to me.'
Muncy is hitting .250 with 13 home runs and 55 RBI in 81 games this season.
The Dodgers recalled outfielder Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he batted .292 with eight homers, 37 RBI and 38 stolen bases in 66 games. He was acquired in April from the Athletics in exchange for minor league pitcher Carlos Duran after being designated for assignment on March 30.

Spain winger Nico Williams agrees to stay at Athletic Bilbao for the coming decade
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Spain winger Nico Williams has agreed to long-term deal that will keep him at Athletic Bilbao through 2035, the Spanish club said Friday. The 22-year-old Williams has been one of the top rising talents since he excelled in helping Spain win the 2024 European Championship last summer. Barcelona was reportedly keen on trying to sign him. Instead, Athletic said Williams will sign a new deal that gives him an eight-year extension. His current contract was through 2027. Family of Liverpool player Diogo Jota and his brother gather at chapel ahead of wake and funeral
GONDOMAR, Portugal (AP) — Family and friends of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother are gathering Friday at a church where their bodies have been brought for a wake and funeral, after the Portuguese soccer players were killed in a car crash in Spain. Some hugged and wept before entering the Capela da Ressurreição São Cosme, where the funeral for the siblings is planned for Saturday. Jota, 28, and his 25-year-old brother, André Silva, were found dead near Zamora in northwestern Spain after the Lamborghini they were driving crashed on an isolated stretch of highway just after midnight on Thursday and burst into flames. Their bodies were repatriated to Portugal after being identified by the family, Spanish government officials said. Jota and his parents both have homes in Gondomar, where he started his playing career as a child. Gondomar is a working-class town next to Porto, where Jota was born. Jota's death occurred two weeks after he married long-time partner Rute Cardoso while on vacation from a long season where he helped Liverpool win the Premier League title. The couple had three children, the youngest born last year. Spanish police are investigating the cause of the crash, which did not involve another vehicle, they said. His brother Silva played with Portuguese club Penafiel in the lower divisions. Condolences poured in from Portuguese officials and the world of soccer as news of the accident spread. Liverpool fans laid flower wreaths and team scarves outside Anfield stadium, while a moment of silence was held before Portugal played Spain at the Women's European Championship in Switzerland.
