Shocking truth behind Korean star PSY revealed: 'People thought I was a gangster who decided to become a singer'
But here's the shocking reality - this was Park Jae-sang, better known as PSY, and he came from one of Korea's most influential business families!
Turns out, our man PSY wasn't from some rough neighbourhood. He was actually a proper rich kid from Seoul's posh district, Banpo-dong. His father? The CEO of a major semiconductor company worth around Rs 3,200 crores, and his mother ran an upscale restaurant in Gangnam. The gangster rumours were so widespread that PSY had to publicly address them, saying, "People thought I was some gangster who got too excited and decided to become a singer.
"
From Silver Spoon to Global Superstar
But here's what makes PSY's story is fascinating for as this wasn't just another rich kid coasting on family money. This rebel actually dropped out of Boston University where he was studying business, because music was his true calling.
Against his parents' wishes, he enrolled at Berkeley College of Music, then returned to Korea to revolutionise the music scene with hits like "Bird" and "Champion."

The interesting part? PSY actually benefited from those wealthy family rumors. When asked about being called a "business tycoon's son," he cleverly responded, "I'm not from a business empire, but thanks for making me one! I don't correct rumors that work in my favour.
"
Then 2012 happened, and "Gangnam Style" exploded globally. This wasn't just a hit - it was a cultural phenomenon that reached #2 on Billboard and made the whole world dance to a Korean tune.
Suddenly, those old gangster rumours seemed absolutely ridiculous.
The Hidden Price
Now here's where the story gets serious, especially for us who understand the pressure of constant performance. Behind all that energy and those incredible shows, PSY was literally destroying his body. His signature summer concerts, called "Soaking Show" (Heumppeok Show), were basically endurance marathons disguised as entertainment.
PSY himself admitted, "I've almost collapsed on stage because I couldn't breathe, and it's happened multiple times."
The man was giving everything, sometimes to the point of vomiting or being carried off stage after shows. They explained that such intense physical performances can cause irregular heartbeat, blood pressure issues, and chronic inflammation. Add the water-soaked environment messing with body temperature, plus lack of sleep and poor eating habits, and you get serious health problems, including fatty liver, gastritis, and fainting spells.
Learning to Survive Success
The wake-up call was real. PSY, who had gained weight to over 90kg and was dealing with joint pain and stomach problems, realized he needed to change his approach completely. The guy who seemed invincible was human after all - something every hardworking Indian can understand.
These days, PSY's still performing, but he's doing it intelligently. He's committed to walking over 10,000 steps daily (like our fitness-conscious uncles!), switched from sugary drinks to electrolyte solutions before and after concerts, and completely changed his diet from high-carb junk to vegetables and lean protein. His new rule? Nothing but water after 10 PM. Fans have noticed he looks much slimmer and healthier.

Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar 2 struggles for screens amid Saiyaara wave, makers offer 50% discounted tickets
The unexpected, unprecedented box office success of Mohit Suri's romantic drama Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, took the film industry by surprise. It prompted Ajay Devgn to push his new release, Vijay Kumar Arora's comedy Son of Sardaar 2, by a week from July 25 to August 1 in order to ensure enough screens for his long-awaited sequel. However, as Saiyaara continues its dominant run, with last week's release following closely, it looks like Son of Sardaar 2 won't get the number of screens it was aiming for, especially in the single screens or non-national cinema chains. While PVRINOX is trying to get 60% of shows across all Indian screens, it may just have to settle for a meagre 35%. As per a Pinkvilla report, Son of Sardaar 2 distributors PVRINOX has been insisting on four shows a day from single screens. However, many of these single screens have decided to skip Son of Sardaar 2 altogether to have more shows of both Saiyaara and Ashwin Kumar's animated mythological film Mahavatar Narsimha, which is presented by Hombale Films, the production house behind pan-India blockbusters like KGF and Kantara. Saiyaara, which released on July 18, is now in its second week, but in no mood to slow down. It's collected Rs 266 crore at the domestic box office in just 12 days. It's also become the highest-grossing Hindi film starring newcomers. It's backed by Aditya Chopra's Yash Raj Films, which famously jostled with Devgn Films back in 2012 when the first part, Ashwni Dhir's Son of Sardaar, released in cinemas. Devgn sued YRF for illegally snatching away screens from Son of Sardaar on Diwali in favour of Yash Chopra's romantic drama Jab Tak Hai Jaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Anushka Sharma. YRF had struck a deal with cinemas across the country in which they had to give majority screens to Jab Tak Hai Jaan in advance while buying YRF's previous blockbuster, Kabir Khan's spy thriller Ek Tha Tiger, starring Salman Khan and Katrina. Along with Saiyaara, Mahavatar Narsimha is also proving to be a formidable competition to Son of Sardaar 2. The film has already collected Rs 29.35 crore in just five days of run at the domestic box office. To make matters worse, Shazia Iqbal's romantic drama Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, is also releasing in cinemas this Friday on August 1. Like Son of Sardaar 2, Dhadak 2 is also a sequel — to Shashank Khaitan's 2018 hit Dhadak — albeit with a new cast and director. The production house, Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, is going the Kesari 2 way with this film. It's releasing only in 1000 screens across India, focusing on the urban centres, with more screens expected to add in case the word of mouth is in their favour. In order to attract footfalls, both the new releases — Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2 — are offering 50% discounts on ticket prices using certain coupon codes. That's not only a massive drop from the opening day figure of Devgn's last release, Raj Kumar Gupta's thriller Raid 2 (Rs 19 crore) earlier this year, but even a decline from the opening day figure of Son of Sardaar (Rs 10 crore+) back in 2012.

Mohit Suri called up Mahesh Bhatt at 6 AM to discuss father-son confrontation scene in Saiyaara- Exclusive
Mohit Suri reflects on his enduring bond with mentor Mahesh Bhatt, highlighting Bhatt's unique approach to nurturing filmmakers by fostering their individual voices. Suri recounts a moment of self-doubt during the filming of 'Saiyaara,' where Bhatt's emotional guidance helped him navigate a challenging scene. Bhatt's emphasis on emotional honesty over technical direction has profoundly shaped Suri's cinematic journey. Mohit Suri has been climbing the charts of Bollywood since he turned 22 and now after 20 years in the business he has seen the pinnacle of success with his latest film Saiyaara starring newcomers like Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda which has become the second biggest hit of the year and 24th biggest hit of Hindi Cinema beating Kartik Aaryan 's Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. One regular companion with him in this journey has been his uncle Mahesh Bhatt . But it has been more than 10 years since the two of them collaborated on a film. Mohit Suri Spills On 20 Years In Bollywood - Ahaan & Aneet, Alia Bhatt Dream Collab & More In an exclusive interview with ETimes, Mohit opened up about his equation with his uncle. He said , ' I talk to him all the time. I messaged him on father's day also, I was in Japan at that time. He had written a really nice article about his relationship with Raj Khosla Saab who was his mentor and the article was about the mentor-protege sent me that article, I have framed it in my office. We have that equation. ' Suri explains that Bhatt doesn't get involved in the day-to-day mechanics of filmmaking. 'He doesn't believe shooting is directing films. He believes in shaping a personality and a voice in you.' This philosophy, says Suri, is what has allowed filmmakers like Anurag Basu , Kunal Deshmukh , Vikram Bhatt , and himself to each evolve distinct cinematic identities under Bhatt's guidance. 'It's like he sharpens every diamond separately,' he says, 'a different polishing process for each of us, and then lets us shine in our own way.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like AirSense 11 – Smart tech for deep sleep ResMed Buy Now Undo This mentorship, rooted in emotional honesty rather than technical direction, became especially important to Suri during a vulnerable moment on set. Recounting a pivotal father-son confrontation scene in Saiyaara where Ahaan grows violent with his father played by Varun Badola , Suri admits feeling uncertain about the tone he was about to strike. 'Am I getting too dramatic? Too dark?' he wondered, aware of the values and sensitivities of the production house he was working with. At 6 in the morning, he made a call. 'I called up Bhatt Saab,' he says. 'I didn't even tell him anything about the scene. I just said, I'm feeling afraid.' What followed was classic Mahesh Bhatt—brutally honest, deeply personal. Bhatt noticed Suri's WhatsApp display picture was a photo of his hand holding his son's. 'He said, if you have a picture like this as your DP, you can never shoot this scene wrong. Because you love that relationship. ' Those words struck home. Suri went on to shoot the scene not with fear, but with faith—in his own emotional compass, and in the power of storytelling that Bhatt had instilled in him. 'The basic emotion of what the director wants to do will be communicated rightly,' Bhatt had said. That was all the reassurance he needed.

Rasha Thadani Serves Sexy Airport Look In Pink Crop Top And Cargo Jeans
Last Updated: Rasha Thadani, daughter of Raveena Tandon, was seen at Mumbai airport in a bubblegum pink crop top, rugged denim cargo jeans, a blush-pink handbag, and black bangles. Rasha Thadani is serving and how! The star kid, who's fast becoming a Gen Z fashion icon, was snapped at the Mumbai airport today and she looked absolutely sexy, stylish, and super fit. Raveena Tandon's daughter was basically everything we love in a good airport spotting moment. Rocking a bubblegum pink spaghetti crop top that showed off her toned abs and sunkissed glow, Rasha proved she's got the it-girl style game locked down. She paired the top with rugged denim cargo jeans, slightly slouched and patched for that cool streetwear edge. The cargo pants, with their big pockets and laid-back vibe, perfectly balanced the flirty pink top. Rasha carried a soft blush-pink handbag which was totally on-theme with the rest of her pink Barbiecore aesthetic. On her wrist, she stacked up black bangles for an edgy desi-meets-90s twist. She wore her long tresses in two cute braided pigtails, with soft flicks framing her face, a nostalgic Y2K nod. Her makeup was minimal and glowing: a natural base, glossy pink lips, and a flush of blush that matched her top. Topping it all off were those rose-tinted sunglasses. Take a look: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Manav Manglani (@ Rasha Thadani, daughter of Raveena Tandon and Anil Thadani, is slowly stepping into the world of showbiz. She took her first step into Bollywood with the period drama Azaad, released on January 17, 2025, directed by Abhishek Kapoor and starring Ajay Devgn. In the film, she played Janaki Bahadur, a strong-willed landlord's daughter, in a story set during India's struggle for independence. Despite a modest box office haul of about Rs 1.5 crore on opening day and critical response calling the film slow-paced, Rasha's presence stood out. Critics noted she had a screen presence despite needing to work on her emotional scenes. Even though Azaad didn't perform well at theaters, a clip of Rasha delivering a heartfelt dialogue went viral online, with fans dubbing her the next 'princess voice." Set in pre-Independence India, Azaad tells the story of a skilled horse rider (played by Ajay Devgn) who flees from the merciless English army. But her life turns upside down when his horse gets lost, forcing him to embark on a risky search with the assistance of a young man. Looking ahead, she is gearing up for her second venture, Laikey Laikaa. Rasha will share the screen space with Abhay Verma, best known for his role in Munjya. The upcoming action film, slated for a 2026 theatrical release, will reportedly feature the new-age actors in lead roles.
