Stephen Bunting battles past Gary Anderson in World Matchplay thriller
The contest went back and forth but Bunting, who also missed double 12 for a nine-darter, chalked off five straight legs to make it 9-6 and it looked like he would go on to seal a comfortable victory.

However, Anderson survived match darts as he fought back to make it a level game but Bunting finally got the job done to win by two clear legs and seal the win.
Both players averaged less than 30 per cent on checkouts which made for darting drama and Bunting admitted to being nervous on stage.
After the match, he told Sky Sports: 'He's a quality operator. One of the best players to grace the stage and I have nothing but respect for Gary Anderson, and what a win in my career.
'I felt nervous anyway. I've got (son) Theo with me tonight, Toby, the missus, but we're through and I can relax now.
'I feel great and playing the best darts of my life and enjoying being in Blackpool – the fans have been incredible.'

James Wade produced a vintage performance as he swept Matchplay debutant Wessel Nijman aside in an 11-5 win.
There was nothing to separate the two players through the opening six legs but Wade jumped all over the young Dutchman's mistakes as he started to race clear.
The game started to turn when Wade brilliantly hit back-to-back bullseye finishes to go 8-4 up with his third ton-plus finish of the match.
That was in the middle of five straight legs that Wade put together to go within a leg of victory and the Machine pinned double tops to wrap up an impressive win.
Gian van Veen reeled off seven straight legs on his way to a thumping 11-5 victory over Danny Noppert.

Noppert started on fire and jumped 2-0 ahead but his Dutch compatriot shifted into top gear and went into the second break with a 7-3 lead which Noppert could not bounce back from.
Van Veen, who surprisingly knocked out Luke Humphries in the first round, threw four 180s and averaged just under 95 to book his spot in the quarter-finals.
Jonny Clayton continued his good run of form with an 11-8 win over Mike de Decker.
The Ferret threw nine 180s and never went behind in the contest but held off a couple of De Decker fightbacks to see him through safely to the quarter-finals.

Reports in Spain have credited the Ibrox side with an interest in Real Betis defender Nobel Mendy. Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell are said to be keen to sign the 20-year-old Frenchman, but a deal is not close as things stand. Mendy, a 6ft 2in left-sided centre-back, joined Betis from Paris FC in 2023 but has featured mostly for the B team, making only five first-team appearances. Gunn, 29, who featured in every game for Scotland at Euro 2024, made 35 appearances for Norwich in the Sky Bet Championship last season and 172 in total during two spells at his hometown club. The 21-year-old midfielder, who can also deputise in defence, has 11 caps for the Zambia national team. He has played in the Champions League with the Swiss club, featuring as a substitute against Celtic last season, but looks set to leave after being left out of the matchday squads for his club's opening two league fixtures. Hearts finally land Kabore Derek McInnes is confident Pierre Landry Kabore can build on his prolific stint in Estonia after the Burkina Faso forward was finally able to complete his transfer to Hearts on a three-year contract. What Benjamin Sesko arrival means for four Man Utd stars as Newcastle beaten to transfer
Benjamin Sesko appears to have chosen Manchester United over Newcastle United and his arrival at Old Trafford could have a big impact on several new team-mates Benjamin Sesko is heading to Manchester United after snubbing Newcastle United, a decision that sees the Slovenian forgo an opportunity to play in this season's Champions League. And while that should be seen as a coup for Old Trafford decision-makers, evidence that despite their decade of decline they remain a bigger draw than a side that finished in the top five last season, it is a huge blow for the Toon who still fear the sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool. But there are also knock-on effects for the dressing room Sesko is heading towards in the north west with his impending arrival set to alter the roles of team-mates - and leave the future of at least one star in serious jeopardy. Here is how United's latest arrival could impact Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee plus new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Rasmus Hojlund After two frustrating seasons in which he has struggled to score consistently with the confidence draining slowly from him, speculation for much of the summer to date has surrounded the Denmark striker being sold. Sesko's arrival will increase the likelihood of that happening significantly with United willing to accept a fee in the range of half the £72m they paid Atalanta for Hojliund in the summer of 2023. A number of Serie A sides have been linked but no interest has translated into a formal offer yet. Hojlund himself is determined to transform his fortunes and was unfazed about transfer speculation with the likes of Sesko: "I think my plan is very clear and that's for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens." Joshua Zirkzee Injury problems may have hindered an average debut season at the club but he does have the size and skillset that could provide Ruben Amorim with scope to mix things up. Expect him to be an impact sub behind Sesko, which may see the pressure be taken off the big Dutchman and United fans will hope that can allow him to play with a bit more freedom when given the opportunity. Matheus Cunha The Brazil star thrived cutting in from the wing while at Wolves and Sesko being the central member of the front three will surely bring the best out of Cunha. He linked up impressively with Jorgen Strand Larsen as the middleman at Molineux and Amorim will expect similar with Sesko. Bryan Mbeumo United's other big summer arrival is in a similar boat to Cunha. At Brentford last season he spent a lot of time operating more centrally but arguably his best work in West London came when providing more width, stretching opposition defences and simultaneously hurting them himself by switching inside or ensuring more space for his team-mates to thrive.

Dutch test for Scots hockey women ahead of Euros
Scotland's senior women's squad face a challenge game from the world's top team, The Netherlands, in Germany on Thursday as the continue their build-up for the EuroHockey Championships in Germany. Several of his squad are in the Great Britain set-up and have played the Dutch, but others have not, but Scotland head coach, Chris Duncan looks forward to the test. The match is in Monchengladbach, the venue for the Euro championships which begin for the Tartan Hearts, ranked No 15 in the world, on Sunday when they square-up to England, ranked No 8, in their opener at 9.15am. Then, just over 24-hours later, Scotland face Spain (12.30), ranked No 7 in the world, a match which has a particular twist as the Scots edged Spain 2-1 two years ago in the last competition also held in Monchengladbach. Their final pool game is on Wednesday, August 13 against Belgium (11.15), a country rated no 3 in the world, before the cross-over ties which decide the finishing positions in the tournament. Duncan, now based in West Lothian, said that his squad as prepared well for the competition in which several players – Sarah Jamieson, Jen Eadie, Fiona Burnet and Millie Steiger – will reach significant milestones in their careers. The party touched down in Dusseldorf on Wednesday night and head coach Duncan said his players were, generally, used to preparing for big tournaments like this one. He added: 'We are used to the tournament scenario, and, from a staff perspective, we are pretty diligent in our preparation, we have done our homework on all three sides we are going to play, but all our narrative is focused on game No 1 in the tournament and getting off to a good start. 'We have done some work during the last few weeks on the other teams, apart from England, but, in the next few days it is all about what we can do in game No 1 and what we can do against England.' He added: 'We are also used to the different weather in Europe. We have processes we have here at home to make sure that we land on the ground, but there is no way of replicating European summer. 'We would, I presume, all wish that a Scottish summer would be a bit warmer, but we have done diligent work in saunas and with clothing and with heat preparation in the last few weeks to ensure we are as ready as we can be.' Duncan has been keeping a close eye on the thermometer and it has been showing lower temperatures than his players have experienced in the past in tournaments in Europe and one which they experienced in Chile in the Nations Cup a few months ago. The venue is also not new to most of the current Scotland squad, and that is a bonus according to the coach who said: 'That brings with it a lot of calmness in terms of planning. 'We know what we are going to, we know what the surroundings are and we know what not to expect and what to expect. That has really helped us in our planning phase, in terms of knowing where we are staying and where we can eat, so we feel pretty settled. 'The other thing that we know is that the tournament is going to be really hard, we are playing against some of the world's top teams. It will be difficult, but the reason we train is to test ourselves against the best.' With that in mind, Duncan said there was no better way of preparing for this tournament than to be playing the best team in the world in a friendly game before a hard training session on Friday and then a light session on Saturday. He added: 'Everybody has done the work off the pitch and everyone has a shared understanding of what they want to achieve when they walk out onto the pitch and also what our plans are from a tactical perspective, the way that we want to play the game. 'Overall, every time we go on the pitch we want to show the world what we are capable of and show the developments we have made. We also want to try and imprint our style against the opposition and the next few days are an opportunity to sharpen the squad ahead of Sunday morning.'
