NBA rumors: Insider makes eye-opening Ja Morant-Heat trade connection
With some wondering about the Memphis Grizzlies' plans with Ja Morant after the shocking trade of sending Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic, there has been much speculation about the team that could be interested in the star. As some such as ESPN's Brian Windhorst see the Grizzlies' move as a rebuild trade that could impact Morant, Vince Goodwill of Yahoo Sports would link the Miami Heat to the 25-year-old.

Morant being connected to Miami currently wouldn't be the first time it's happened, as Goodwill points out that it would have been more complicated to do before the trade deadline with the Jimmy Butler saga happening. He would also say on his 'Good Word with Goodwill' podcast that Bane would've been involved in 'iterations' of a potential deal at the time.
'I don't think I'm breaking news here, but in the middle of the whole Jimmy Butler saga last year, one name that multiple league sources had brought up to me was, 'Hey, you might want to check on Ja Morant and Miami,'' Goodwill said. 'I didn't understand the iterations of it and I thought 'This was gonna be a really complicated trade (A) because of Jimmy's extension (B) because of Ja's long money, and there was iterations of Ja and Desmond Bane being shipped out, which sounds like it could be true given Desmond Bane was just traded yesterday.'
Grizzlies not expected to trade Ja Morant
Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports
Trade rumors around Morant have been non-stop, especially ever since the Grizzlies fired head coach Taylor Jenkins, but in terms of the current moment, there isn't an expectation that the team will trade the talented star. This comes from a report by Tim Bontemps of ESPN, who said that Memphis is 'not looking to deal' Morant and big man Jaren Jackson Jr., who are seen as the 'two remaining franchise cornerstones.'

'But more star trades are not expected. Sources told ESPN that the Grizzlies are not looking to deal either of their two remaining franchise cornerstones. The team has spent the past several months clearing salary cap space to complete a renegotiation and extension of Jackson's contract this offseason, preventing him from hitting free agency in 2026. The belief is that an extension will get done, sources said. But the Bane trade gives Memphis an avenue to give Jackson even more on that deal and lock him in long term.'
Looking at the Heat, the team is currently pursuing Kevin Durant, but if it does not pan through, the franchise will look for other options in adding a star, which could mean contacting the Grizzlies about Morant. At any rate, Memphis looks to improve after finishing 48-34, which put them eighth in the Western Conference before being eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

Wyc Grousbeck stepping down as Celtics governor
Wyc Grousbeck is out as the controlling governor of the Boston Celtics according to ESPN's Shams Charania and Ramona Shelburne. When he first put the team for sale on July 1st, 2024, Grousbeck said he hoped to control the team through the 2027-28 season even after the sale was completed. In the press release of the sale in March, the team announced that Grousbeck would have control through the 2027-28 season. Chisholm agreed to pay $6.1 billion for the team when the sale was agreed to in March. He will now take over full control of the Celtics when the transfer is approved by the NBA's Board of Governors within the next couple of weeks. My two cent:, this isn't a huge surprise. Chisholm was always going to be the final decision maker regardless of who was tabbed as the governor of the team because he is going to be writing the checks. I am sure Grousbeck saw that writing on the wall and decided to just hand the title of governor over as well. CelticsBlog alum Keith Smith, put it best: Thus, this puts to bed the Grousbeck era where the Celtics won two titles, made the Finals four times and only missed the playoffs twice since 2007. It ushers in a new era with new ownership that Celtics fans can only hope will be as successful as the last one.

Oklahoma Sooners beat out Texas Longhorns for 2026 5-star defensive end
The Oklahoma Sooners landed one of the best prospects in the 2026 recruiting class on Tuesday, earning a commitment from ESPN five-star defensive end Jake Kreul. Kreul chose the Oklahoma Sooners over the Texas Longhorns and the Ole Miss Rebels. Kreul announced his commitment on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. An IMG Academy product, Kreul joins former teammates David Stone and Jayden Jackson in Todd Bates and Miguel Chavis' defensive line room and will have an opportunity to make an instant impact in 2026. Kreul's a dynamic rusher off the edge with a big-time motor and an advanced set of pass rush moves. He can win with speed and athleticism and has the power to push offensive tackles into the backfield with a bull rush. Kreul's a complete defensive end with the length and the strength to set the edge in the run game. He had a total of 36 Power Four offers, with 13 coming from SEC schools and eight more from Big Ten schools. Kreul is the No. 22 player in the class according to ESPN and No. 61 according to 247Sports. He's one of the most polished pass rushers in the class, and with his size and strength, would have an opportunity to play early in his career. He's an elite player with the ability to be a difference maker against the run and as a pass rusher. He has 36 Power Four offers. Any team would be thrilled to land a player with his skill set. The Oklahoma Sooners will add Kreul to a class that also includes four-star defensive end prospect Daniel Norman and three-star edge Matthew Nelson. Oklahoma has an intriguing group of pass rushers that will be on the roster in 2026, but nobody that's established themselves as a bona fide defensive end. Unless Taylor Wein, Danny Okoye, or Adepoju Adebawore have a big year for the Sooners in 2025, the door will be open for Kreul to find a way into the defensive end rotation on day one. Jake Kreul Recruiting Profile Watch Jake Kreul highlights on Hudl Kreul is one of the elite prospects in the 2026 cycle, demonstrating technical refinement in his game. LeBron James will break another long-standing record on Opening Night
I gotta be honest. At this point, I assume that LeBron James already holds most of the relevant individual NBA records. I mean, James has been playing professional basketball for 20 years. He did surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA's all-time scoring leader a couple of years ago. He's an all-timer still playing at an All-Star-caliber level at the age of 40. Those kinds of guys usually rewrite the record books as they go, you know? LA TENSION: LeBron is overstaying his welcome with Lakers But no. With the NBA revealing the schedule for some of its more notable 2025-2026 marquee dates on Tuesday, James somehow has another impressive accolade in his crosshairs. When his Los Angeles Lakers play the Golden State Warriors on Opening Night, James will officially become the all-time leader in NBA seasons played, surpassing the legendary Vince Carter, with whom he is still currently tied at 22 seasons apiece. Again, this is objectively bonkers now that I see it at face value and laid out like this, but I'm surprised James hadn't already achieved this! Well, the more you know: I'm gonna be candid again. I think James is the best basketball player ever. Full stop. I will definitely appreciate him while he's still around, but I really hope he will just retire soon already. It'd be nice and appreciated if he stepped out of the spotlight for the NBA's next generation. But if he's going to keep stacking achievements like this as an active NBA player, who are any of us to hate on that? He's penning his legend every time he steps on the court. Who are some of the other NBA icons with the most seasons played? I'm glad you asked. Aside from James and Carter, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett, Kevin Willis, and Robert Parish all played at least 21 seasons. Next to James, Chris Paul is the only other active player with at least 20 seasons played. Can James break any other NBA records this year? Yes! If the Lakers' forward plays at least 50 regular-season games this season, he will surpass Parish (1,611) for the most-played regular-season games all time.
