Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 introduces its heroes and villain; fans say Smriti Irani-Amar Upadhyay show ‘has not aged'
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 began with Tulsi chanting Gayatri mantra, followed by the show's iconic title track, which gave a glimpse into how Kyunki's world will be the same, yet different, this time. With many monologues from Smriti and flashback sequences, the first episode majorly focused on establishing the characters. However, the relations between the characters are yet to be explained.
Episode 1 begins with Tulsi and Mihir celebrating their 38th wedding anniversary. While the preparations for a grand party are going on, Tulsi, as usual, is busy running the household and cooking for her beloved children. Karan and Nandini (Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan) were also seen in the first episode, while they seemed to have settled abroad, the family has come together for the celebration. Further in the episode we see, Mihir and Tulsi share a heartwarming scene when Mihir goes on his knee and gifts Tulsi a car on their anniversary.

The first episode also established some tension in the Virani household, laying undercurrents for an upcoming 'toofan'. Kamalika Guha Thakurta is seen in a negative avatar this time. She holds a grudge against Mihir and Tulsi for taking over the business and the household. On the show, Gayatri (Kamalika's character) is seen discussing with her son Hemant (Shakti Anand) how Mihir has sidelined him and sent him to Delhi, where he practices law, while Tulsi is taking charge of running the house.
She later says how Tulsi is in for a betrayal by her kids, hinting at the new generation, where Shagun is seen having a secret affair, while Rohit Suchanti's character is shown as a careless man-child. Pari and Angad are also seen discussing some financial differences in the family. The episode ended with a storm hitting Shanti Niketan, and Tulsi praying to the Tulsi plant to protect them from all evil eyes.
Reacting to the show's title track, one user wrote on X, 'I was crying like a baby..so many memories with this title track… Also, Iconic saas bahu duo Savita and Tulsi…Family values and the background music (heart emoji).' Another fan wrote, 'Feeling nostalgic watching the show again.' A third user thanked Ekta Kapoor and Balaji for bringing the show back and wrote, 'Mummy papa and sab ke ke face pe woh khushi dekhkar samajh gaya – nostalgia isn't just a word, it's a feeling. Thank you, Balaji, Smriti Irani, and Ekta Kapoor. (See the happiness on my parents' face, I understood that nostalgia isn't just a word, it's a feeling.)'

One of the fans called Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi a legendary show and wrote, 'Who would've thought? After 25 YEARS, we're watching Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi all over again! Some things don't age… they become LEGENDS.' Many fans even lauded Mihir and Tulsi's on-screen chemistry. One of the users wrote on Instagram, 'This was a wonderful moment.' Another fan commented, 'Just completed the 1st episode and it's pure nostalgia…uff…I was 3 years old when it aired on TV back in 2000, now I am 28 and a fully grown man, and I am so happy to watch it again.' A third user wrote, 'Smritiji, yours and Amar Upadhyay's scene was the highlight.'

A section of the audience, however, also called the show overdramatic, especially the scene where Savita's (Apara Mehta's) spirit appears to talk to Tulsi. Others have even pointed out how Tulsi looks older to Mihir and how the two just don't seem to fit in together.
Recently, in an interview with SCREEN, Amar Upadhyay spoke about the excitement around the show and said, 'The Gen-Z is also excited and wants to see the show first-hand. They want to know what the fuss was all about, why their parents or grandparents were so crazy about this show. The font and the name are so nostalgic, then the music plays, and it takes you back.' He even spoke about Mihir and Tulsi's equation in the latest season and said, 'We lived as Mihir-Tulsi then, and we look superb together. Smriti is just as she was with the kids, and Mihir is unchanged too. All of that will bring back the same old feeling, now with a fresh twist. Smriti and my relationship is just the way it was.'
He also shared that the show is going to revolve around the differences between two generations. While Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi holds the same traditional values, the story has been modernised. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 will be a finite show, Amar Upadhyay told SCREEN that the show might run for 10 months to one year at the most.
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi also stars Ketki Dave, Kamalika Guha Thakurta, Shakti Anand, Hiten Tejwani, Gauri Pradhan, and Ritu Seth from the older cast. Rohit Suchanti, Aman Gandhi, and Shagun Sharma have joined the show as the new generation.

Kumkum Bhagya To Go Off Air Due To Low TRPs? Here's What We Know
Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya, featuring Pranali Rathod and Namik Paul, will reportedly end next month due to low TRPs. The final episode airs on September 7, 2025. Zee TV's most popular show, Kumkum Bhagya, is reportedly going off air next month. Kumkum Bhagya started in 2014 with Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia as the main leads, and after multiple leaps and story changes, the show currently stars Pranali Rathod and Namik Paul as the fourth generation. But now, reports indicate that the makers have decided to end the show, considering poor TRPs. A source close to the development told IWMBUZZ, 'Kumkum Bhagya, which presently has Pranali Rathod, Namik Paul, and Akshay Bindra as the fourth-generation leads in the show, will soon go off air. The decision, apparently, has been made to end the long-running show. The show has been struggling with a drop in TRPs for some time now." While the officials are yet to confirm this news of the show going off air, it has been claimed in the report that the last episode of the family drama will air on September 7, 2025, marking the end of an 11-year journey of entertaining generations. While at first the plan wasn't to end the show, as per Gossips TV, when the makers of the show were offered a slot at 7 PM, the producer Ektaa Kapoor decided to reject the offer and instead took the decision to end it. Kumkum Bhagya began with Sriti Jha and Shabir Ahluwalia in the lead, followed by a generation leap that brought in Krishna Kaul and Mugdha Chaphekar. Later, Abrar Qazi and Rachi Sharma took over as leads, and currently, Pranali Rathod and Namik Paul headline the show. Now in its 11th year, Kumkum Bhagya stands as one of Indian television's longest-running shows. While reports hint that fans of Pranali and Namik may soon have to bid them goodbye, there has been no official confirmation about the show going off air. Meanwhile, talking about the show's producer, Ektaa Kapoor, recently made headlines as she rebooted the iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, starring actor and politician Smriti Irani. The show, which aired on July 29, promises emotional drama, strong family ties, and new twists, while holding on to the legacy that made it unforgettable. Whether you are a long-time fan or a new viewer, this reboot promises something for everyone. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
