The Ryan Reaves era in Toronto is officially over. The Maple Leafs traded the 38-year-old enforcer to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for 24-year-old defenseman Henry Thrun. The move frees up cap space and adds a younger blueliner with NHL experience, signaling Toronto's continued effort to balance financial flexibility and roster depth.

The trade was confirmed Thursday evening, with Toronto sending Reaves and his $1.35 million contract to the Sharks and receiving Thrun, who carries a $1 million cap hit and is in the final year of his deal. The transaction saves the Maple Leafs $350,000 in cap space immediately and avoids a $200,000 buried penalty had Reaves been demoted to the AHL. According to PuckPedia, Toronto now has approximately $5.33 million in salary cap space available.
Reaves' future in Toronto had been uncertain following a recent podcast appearance where he expressed his desire to reach the 1,000-game milestone before retiring. With only 35 games played last season and 84 total since joining the Leafs, Reaves currently sitting at 912 career games appeared to be on the outside of Toronto's competitive plans.
Thrun, a fourth-round pick (101st overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft by Anaheim, brings promise.

He played 60 games for San Jose last season, recording two goals and 10 assists while averaging 17:31 of ice time. In total, he has 119 NHL games under his belt with five goals and 20 assists. Notably, his first NHL goal came against the Maple Leafs on January 9, 2024.
A standout at Harvard University, Thrun posted 63 points in 68 games during his final two seasons. Though he hasn't yet matched that offensive output in the NHL, he remains a solid developmental project.
Toronto's coaching staff may look to refine his game, especially with his size, vision, and puck-moving ability already evident.

Connor McDavid Trade Bombshell to the Bruins: NHL insiders say it could guarantee a Stanley Cup win

Insiders call Connor McDavid a 'Stanley Cup cheat code' (Imagn Images) As NHL free agency and trade talks ramp up, one name continues to dominate every rumor mill—Connor McDavid. With his contract situation still unresolved in Edmonton, speculation is heating up across the league. Among the teams linked to the Oilers captain, the Boston Bruins have now entered the conversation—and some local media believe a potential McDavid deal could change everything. Bruins insiders make bold Stanley Cup prediction if Connor McDavid lands in Boston During the August 1 episode of Bruins Beat, reporters Evan Marinofsky and Conor Ryan briefly entertained the fantasy of Connor McDavid wearing a black and gold jersey. Marinofsky tossed out the question, 'What if McDavid ended up with the Bruins?' Ryan's response was immediate and emphatic: 'I mean, they'd win a cup. They would, yeah.' Should Bruins TRADE Pavel Zacha? | Bruins Beat That may sound like a stretch—but Ryan doubled down. Calling McDavid 'the easiest cheat code,' he drew a parallel to another generational athlete: 'I think McDavid is so dominant now that he's kind of like LeBron during his prime, right? Where, like just him alone, you're going to be in the third round if not in the final.' Ryan also acknowledged the financial weight that a McDavid contract would carry—likely in the ballpark of $15.5 to $16 million per year, a new NHL record. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Study Shows Surprising Link Between Aging & your Pillowcase Blissy Learn More Undo Yet he argued that even at that cost, McDavid would be worth every penny. Connor McDavid's uncertain future has the entire NHL holding its breath After another playoff letdown for the Oilers in June, McDavid's long-term commitment to Edmonton has come under question. The 2024 Conn Smythe winner has recorded at least 90 points in all nine of his NHL seasons—yet remains without a Stanley Cup. His contract talks have reportedly stalled, and the league is taking notice. McDavid made his priorities clear in a recent interview: 'Winning is the most important thing… If I feel there's a good window to win here over and over again, then signing is no problem.' That statement leaves the door open for other franchises—like the Bruins—to make their pitch. Whether Boston is a serious contender or just a fan-fueled fantasy, one thing is certain: until McDavid re-signs, the NHL rumor machine won't slow down. Also Read: Connor McDavid to the Maple Leafs? Patrick Mahomes shares sweet field moment with son Bronze after surprise visit from Brittany Mahomes (Image Via X) Patrick Mahomes , the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, returned to training camp in late July 2025. Right as things heated up with football, a sweet surprise arrived. For many, it's not usual during the season but this moment caught attention. His wife Brittany Mahomes made a surprise visit to see him at practice. That special gesture brought smiles and family togetherness right when football was back in the spotlight. Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes bring the kids Brittany Mahomes showed up at the Kansas City Chiefs' training facility at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, with Sterling (four-years-old) and Bronze (two-yrs old). Reporters Pete Grathoff and Tammy Ljungblad of the Kansas City Star noted that 'the kids got to see dad at work', a rare treat since 'bring your kids to work day' normally falls during NFL offseason and doesn't often coincide with training camp. Photographer Tammy Ljungblad captured a touching photo of Patrick Mahomes with their young son Bronze on the field. It was a candid, charming moment showing a father at work and a family connecting in between drills. Brittany Mahomes' visit was small but meaningful: a reminder that family stays close even while the season begins. In mid-July 2025, ESPN surveyed NFL coaches, executives, and scouts, and ranked Patrick Mahomes as the No. 1 quarterback in the league heading into the 2025‑26 season. While Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills came in at No. 2 and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 3 in those rankings, Patrick still got about 60 percent of first‑place votes, less than past years, but enough to hold the top spot. Analysts mentioned that although Patrick Mahomes' dominance dipped slightly in percentage of first‑place votes, he continued to lead the NFL in passing categories since 2018. That includes yards, touchdowns, and yards per attempt. One coach remarked that 'tier one quarterbacks are historically good,' and Patrick Mahomes still sits at the peak of that tier going into the new season.
