'Going to work ready for war': Sophia Bush reveals alleged abuse on TV set

Mint2 days ago

Washington [US], June 5 (ANI): Actress Sophia Bush has shared her harrowing experience of alleged physical and emotional abuse on the set of a television series.
As per People magazine, in a candid conversation with Monica Lewinsky on her podcast 'Reclaiming,' Bush revealed the traumatic impact it had on her life.
Bush described joining a TV show after her nine-year run on 'One Tree Hill' as a dream come true, but it turned into a nightmare.
She alleged that she suffered "every kind" of abuse at the hands of someone old enough to be her father.
Bush said she had to be constantly on guard, likening it to "going to work ready for war all the time," as quoted by People magazine.
The actress recounted experiencing physical symptoms like hives, hair loss, and weight fluctuations.
She also struggled with anxiety, becoming defensive and withdrawn. Bush said she couldn't bear to be touched or looked at, especially in the work environment.
Bush eventually left the show in April 2017, months before the '#MeToo' movement gained momentum.
She revealed that she was given two options: change her environment or have her character written off. Bush chose to leave, citing a need to respect herself in a situation where she didn't feel respected.
In October 2017, Bush received a call from an executive apologising for their inaction.
The executive acknowledged that the show had "just made it out of that unscathed."
While Bush didn't directly name the show, her experience bears a resemblance to her time on 'Chicago P.D.,' where she played Erin Lindsay from 2014 to 2017.
Bush previously opened up about her departure from the series, citing a need to prioritise her well-being. (ANI)

Snoop Dogg film to be directed by Craig Brewer

ANI Published 7 Jun 2025, 09:20 AM IST Washington DC [US], June 7 (ANI): Craig Brewer, known for helming such films as 'Hustle & Flow' and 'Dolemite Is My Name', is set to direct the biopic of Snoop Dogg. Universal Pictures has set Craig Brewer to film the definitive biography of Snoop Dogg's rise from hip-hop artist to renowned entertainment magnate. Brewer will contribute revisions to a script previously written by Joe Robert Cole. The film will be produced by Snoop Dogg, Brian Grazer and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker. SVP Production Development Ryan Jones will oversee the project for the studio, reported Deadline. The Snoop Dogg film marks the first movie under Death Row Pictures' overall contract with NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios. It is an offshoot of Death Row Records, the label that established Snoop Dogg's career and is now embarking on an ambitious new chapter with the expansion. The strategic shift strengthens the brand's reach beyond music, ushering in a new era of imaginative on-screen storytelling. Universal has found success in the historical hip hop space with the F. Gary Gray-directed Straight Outta Compton, the story of the seminal rap group N.W.A film that was nominated for a Best Screenplay Oscar and grossed more than USD 200 million. Before that came 8 Mile, which starred Eminem in a drama based on his life and rise. Grazer produced that film, which grossed USD 250 million and won an Original Song Oscar for "Lose Yourself." Death Row's upcoming slate of projects starts with the Snoop Dogg biopic. Beyond film, Snoop will return to NBC's musical competition series The Voice this fall, reclaiming his red chair for Season 28. On top of that, he will continue to partner with NBCUniversal on cross-portfolio opportunities; he was a breakout star on NBC and Peacock's coverage of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, reported Deadline. Rana Daggubati opens up about nepotism in film industries, says 'ultimately you have to stand in front of camera, act'

Actor Rana Daggubati, known for his roles in Baahubali and Rana Naidu, shared his thoughts about nepotism in the film industry, a point of debate abuzz in the entertainment domains for decades now. Hailing from a prestigious film family, Rana is the son of film producer D Suresh Babu and Lakshmi. He shares a close bond with his uncle-actor Venkatesh Daggubati and is also the cousin of Naga Chaitanya. (Also Read | Rana Daggubati slams paparazzi culture in Bollywood as he reacts to video of him getting angry at paps: 'It's annoying') In an interview with ANI on Monday, Rana emphasised that having a film family background opens up more opportunities and provides a deeper understanding of the industry. He said, "Any industry that your family is from, you understand it more than somebody who's not. How does it help an actor? Ultimately, you have to stand in front of the camera and act. There'll be a lot more opportunities for you. There will be an ecosystem that you understand. It's like if your family is from chemical industries or sugar factories, you'll understand how a sugar factory works and all the byproducts of sugar like that." The actor's mother worked in a film laboratory and his father in a film studio. Rana admitted that her mother's and father's professions helped him become familiar with the basic functions of film studios and laboratories. "My mother worked in a film laboratory, so I understood what a film laboratory looks like and how it functions. My father worked in a studio, so I understood its function, and my uncle was an actor," said Rana. Ranamentioned that the "pressure" to continue his family's legacy motivated him to do something unique, including starting his own production house, Spirit Media, in 2005. "Pressure, in that sense, it was self-inflicted in some manner. You want to do something that is unique, new, and stands out and should stand for a long period of time. Whether it was visual effects, whether it's acting, or producing," said Rana. He is a vocal advocate for contemporary and art house films. Through his production house, he has supported films such as All We Imagine As Light, directed by Payal Kapadia. He believes that his popularity has given him a platform to promote these types of films. "Cinema is one, language never mattered to me when I was watching it as a child. So growing up and working, it didn't matter which language it was, and I feel there's a voice to all kinds of stories. The first film we made at Spirit Media was an art house film. Art house didn't have any other way to release, and I feel like now, since I got a little bit more popular, I can advocate for some cinema," said Rana. Rana will be next seen in the second season of Rana Naidu. It is directed by Karan Anshuman. Apart from the lead actor, the series also stars Surveen Chawla, Arjun Rampal and Kriti Kharbanda in prominent roles. The series is slated to release on Netflix on June 13.
