Steelers rookie Will Howard getting dealt a bad hand
When the Pittsburgh Steelers selected former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL draft, most pundits considered it a great value pick. Howard led the Buckeyes to a National Championship and aside from questions about his arm strength, has all the tools you look for in a modern NFL quarterback in a big, athletic package.
Howard himself has said all the right things about joining the Steelers and even has the endorsement of Steelers legend Ben Roethlisberger. Put all this together and Howard and Steelers' fans should be excited about the upcoming season, right?

Not so much. In fact, it feels like picking Howard is more of a procedural thing and there are no plans to let Howard get a fair shot at the starting job this season, regardless of whether or not the Steelers sign Aaron Rodgers.
But there's always next season, right? Probably not. No matter what happens in 2025 short of a deep playoff push with Mason Rudolph at quarterback, the Steelers are going to spend a top draft pick on a quarterback in 2026. If the Steelers do draft a top quarterback next year, Howard is now playing behind a guy the team has invested in heavily and isn't going anywhere. We are rooting for the cards to fall right for Howard this season and he gets an opportunity to show the team what he can do and maybe hold off the team from replacing him too quickly.

Oregon WR Evan Stewart could miss 2025 season after suffering reported knee injury

(Photo by Robin Alam/) Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart could miss part or all of the 2025 season after suffering a knee injury earlier in the week. Per ESPN, the injury is 'potentially season-ending.' According to On3, Stewart tore his patellar tendon. Advertisement Stewart was set to be Oregon's top returning receiver for the 2025 season. He was Oregon's second-leading receiver in 2024 with 48 catches for 613 yards and 5 touchdowns. Only Tez Johnson had more catches than Stewart, who missed the Ducks' Rose Bowl loss to Ohio State because of a lower back injury. Stewart is a former five-star recruit who signed with Texas A&M out of high school. He was the No. 33 prospect in the country and the No. 4 wide receiver in his class behind 2025 NFL draft picks Luther Burden III and Tetairoa McMillan and LSU wide receiver Aaron Anderson. The 2024 season was Stewart's first with the Ducks after two seasons with the Aggies. He had 91 catches for 1,163 yards and 6 TDs over 18 games at A&M. If Stewart is out for the season, the Ducks will need to replace both Johnson and Stewart at wide receiver along with TE Terrance Ferguson as Johnson and Ferguson are headed to the NFL. Oregon will also have a new quarterback after Dillon Gabriel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns and former UCLA QB Dante Moore presumably takes over as the starter. Oregon went 13-0 in the regular season and won the Big Ten title before losing to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff.

Stokely, Stevenson combine for 9 RBIs and North Carolina routs Arizona 18-2 to open Super Regional
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Hunter Stokely drove in five runs, Luke Stevenson drove in four and North Carolina rolled to an 18-2 victory over Arizona on Friday to open the Chapel Hill Super Regional. Jake Knapp allowed two runs on nine hits in seven innings. He improved to 14-0 with a 2.02 ERA. Tom Chmielewski finished with two scoreless innings. The top-ranked and No. 5 national seed Tar Heels scored eight runs in the first two innings, three on Stokely's home run that made it a 5-1 game in the first inning. Stevenson's three-run home run in the second made it 8-1. Stokely added an RBI-single in the fourth and another in the eighth inning. Stevenson drove in North Carolina's first run back in the first inning. Sam Angelo hit a three-run home run in the eighth and Kane Kepley's solo home run later in the inning made it 18-2. Gavin Gallaher had four hits and scored three runs. Kepley and Jackson Van De Brake each scored four times for the Tar Heels. The first five batters in the order had 13 hits and drove in 12 runs. They scored 15 runs. Adonys Guzman drove in a run with a single in the first inning and Easton Breyfogle added a sacrifice fly in the fourth for Arizona's two runs. Owen Kramkowski (9-6) allowed eight runs in an inning and a third. North Carolina (46-13) is playing in a Super Regional for the 12th time, having advanced eight times previously. (Photo by) Hours before the national title deciding game three of the Women's College World Series, ESPN reported that Stanford transfer and now Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady inked a second historic $1 million dollar deal with the Red Raiders NIL collective, the Matador Club. Canady has thrown every inning of the WCWS for the Red Raiders, all 504 pitches. Canady led her team to a Game two victory at the WCWS on Thursday, June 5 that forced the winner-takes-all showdown. Canady is a superstar two way player as she currently boasts a 0.97 earned run average, 317 strikeouts, .156 opposing batting average, but also hits .280 with 11 home runs. According to her agent Derrick Shelby of Prestige Management, Texas Tech wanted to reward Canady for her outstanding play and keep her within the Red Raider program another year. He said, 'Nija Canady is the most electrifying player in softball. She's box office and she goes out every day and competes. The decision to stay at Tech was not difficult. This program has taken care of her. They have showed how much she is appreciated. The entire staff, her teammates, the school in general have been great." ESPN did not report the amount of the deal, but her previous year's deal was worth $1,050,024, $1 million in NIL money, $50,000 for living expenses, and $24 to represent her collegiate number. However, reported that they believe the deal is at least $1.2 million. Again, it is safe to say that Texas Tech, a program that has never even made the NCAA post season would not be in the WCWS, much less the championship series, one win away from a national title without Canady.
