Cowboys backup QB excites in practice vs Rams before exiting with hand injury
Cowboys backup quarterback Joe Milton wowed the crowd early during the Cowboys-Rams joint practice before exiting with an apparent hand injury. The second-year player out of Tennessee showcased his impressive arm strength, hitting Dallas wideout Jalen Brooks for what the streets are calling a 65-yard bomb. He also showed some touch on a few passes and was overall having a very positive day.
His great start was overshadowed by his noticeable absence. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer updated that he will undergo further testing, but it appears a bullet was dodged as Schotty indicated he was removed for precautionary reasons and would've been able to continue if anything was actually on the line.
The injury bug Dallas has dealt with reared its ugly head again when Milton appeared to have hit his hand on an opposing team's helmet which subsequently ending his day. Third string quarterback Will Grier took over in Milton's absence.

Milton was acquired from the New England Patriots in exchange for a late-round pick the 2025 NFL draft.
The Cowboys preseason opener is Saturday, August 9. Anticipation of seeing Milton in game action has been bubbling all summer, hopefully he'll be able to play.

Aaron Donald Sparks NFL Comeback Buzz After Conversation With Micah Parsons
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. One overzealous Los Angeles Rams fan may be responsible for defensive tackle Aaron Donald coming out of retirement. That fan, who goes by the name @Ramblangman on Instagram and X, posted a photoshopped picture of disgruntled Dallas Cowboys defensive end Micah Parsons in a Rams jersey on his Instagram account on Tuesday with the caption: "I'm not saying the Rams should trade for Micah Parsons... but I'm not not saying it either. Players like him don't hit the market every day. A phone call wouldn't hurt nobody." What was likely intended to be a discussion starter among his near-6,000 fellow Rams fans actually turned into a viral social media post that made its way back to Donald — and he just couldn't pass up the opportunity to leave a reply. "If @_micahparsons11 go to the rams I might have to call @210ths and get in football shape 😂😂 wit that Dline would be unreal 🤦🏽♂️🔥," Donald commented. Donald's reply then caught the attention of Parsons himself. "@aarondonald99 man!!! Don't tell me info like that!! @davidmulugheta," Parsons responded. That would actually by wild," another fan replied. "If this fantasy I wanna live in came true we would [expletive] have the undisputed greatest defensive line of all time," one user declared. "Pass rush would be unstoppable lmfao," a second user remarked. "@RamsNFL make it happen and I'll work for free for the team I will do whatever it takes IDC," another fan pleaded. Dak Prescott on Micah Parsons Dispute: ‘This Is Frustrating for Everybody'
National Football League Dak Prescott on Micah Parsons Dispute: 'This Is Frustrating for Everybody' Published Aug. 6, 2025 7:29 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had two words to sum up the escalating dispute between the organization and All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons: "F---, man." "He knows what that means," Prescott said about reaching out to Parsons, per Yahoo Sports. "It wasn't 'F--- you, Micah,' or 'F--- them.' It's more of a 'F---, this is frustrating for everybody involved.'" Prescott has experienced his own share of drawn-out negotiations in recent years, having gone back and forth with Jones through two extended disputes. Prescott inked a four-year, $160 million deal in 2021 and then a four-year, $240 million extension on the eve of the Cowboys' Week 1 season opener last fall after an awkward offseason in which Jones was wishy-washy about paying Prescott. "Not many people, especially here, have been in that position," Prescott said, per CBS Sports. "So I know what that means just to support him." While Prescott reached out to Parsons, team owner Jerry Jones has still yet to do so. Jones shared he has not spoken to Parsons nor started contract negotiations with his agent, David Mulugheta, since he demanded a trade on Aug. 1 . Jones also went on to say that he's uncertain if Parsons will play in the Cowboys' season opener against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4, which also serves as the opener to the 2025 NFL regular season. ADVERTISEMENT Parsons continued his hold-in this week, watching the joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams on Aug. 5 from the sidelines in his white No. 11 jersey and sweats. [MORE: Micah Parsons Next Team Odds: Will Cowboys Trade Star DE?] Parsons and the Cowboys began contract discussions in January. Jones mentioned at the NFL's annual league meeting in April that he was communicating directly with Parsons about a potential new deal, alluding to a conversation the two had in March that Jones seemingly interpreted as a formal negotiation. According to Parsons, when his agent reached out after that meeting, "the team decided to go silent." Furthermore, Parsons let it be known that he wouldn't be doing any deal without his agent involved. In June, Parsons said that he was "hopeful" he'd have a new deal done before the start of training camp on July 20. One day before the start of camp, Jones seemingly took a dig at Parsons' durability by mentioning he missed a handful of games due to injury last season when asked by reporters for an update on the negotiations. While Parsons didn't respond directly, he reshared a social media post from former NFL star J.J. Watt about how someone "can publicly take a dig at … your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins." Parsons reported to the start of training camp but only observed from the sidelines and did not participate. Shortly after, he made a formal trade request, calling out the Jones family for how they'd handled contract negotiations and revealing that they haven't "had a single conversation" with his agent in a 1,000-plus-word statement posted online. Jones added more fuel to the fire two days later, saying that a situation from a decade ago involving former Cowboys star Dez Bryant — who publicly voiced his support for Parsons on social media — and Roc Nation Sports owner Jay-Z is the reason why he doesn't like to deal with agents. A first-round draft pick in 2021, Parsons has at least 12.0 sacks in each of his four seasons in Dallas and has 52.5 for his career. He also had 12 tackles for loss in 13 games last season. Parsons is going into the fifth and final year of his rookie deal and could be franchise tagged in 2026 without an extension. He's set to make $24.007 million in 2025. Drake Maye says Mike Vrabel's bloodied face after he rose from pile at practice was reminiscent of Trump rally
Before becoming a coach, Mike Vrabel was known as one of the most physical linebackers in the NFL. Earlier this year, Vrabel was named head coach of the New England Patriots, reuniting him with the franchise with which he spent eight seasons. Vrabel is guiding the Patriots through training camp, and while fights tend to break out during the grueling weeks of training camp, coaches don't typically jump into the fray. Vrabel decided to buck that trend. On Wednesday, the Patriots and Washington Commanders held a joint practice at Gillette Stadium. At one point during practice, a hard tackle by rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson as he stepped up to block for pass protection appeared to be the tipping point for an eventual scuffle. Vrabel eventually tried to defuse the situation by taking matters into his own hands and jumping into the pile. Once the tension settled, the first-year Patriots coach emerged with a bloody face, the Boston Herald reported. Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was complimentary of his coach's tenacity. "That's what we're trying to build, and it starts with the head coach — intensity, bringing it every day, taking no crap when we're out there on the field," Maye said. "The mentality, I like it. That's what you want." Vrabel was later spotted holding a towel that appeared to contain ice on his face. "Pass pro is physical. It's a physical game. Things happen out there," Maye said. "There's a time where obviously you don't want to come out here and fight and get into trouble. At the same time, you don't want to back down from nobody. So, I'm sure Coach will preach that we can't have that, but, at the same time, kind of in the back of our minds, that's kind of how we want to play — the intensity. When the whistle is going, play hard, and when the whistle stops, get off and get away." Maye added that Vrabel's appearance reminded him of the assassination attempt at one of President Donald Trump's political rallies in Pennsylvania last year. "Somebody was saying it was like the Trump gunshot," Maye said, pointing toward his ear. Patriots tight end Hunter Henry suggested Vrabel's pysical nature is still a part of him even though he is no longer playing. "He's right there with us, man. I think that player comes out in him a little bit too," Henry said. The brief melee did not result in any player ejections from practice.
