‘These are human beings you're laughing about': MAGA loyalist blasted for gleefully flaunting ‘Alligator Alcatraz' hat
'Hi guys. I have just been handed official Alligator Alcatraz merch. I repeat, this prison has merch. Things are going insanely well,' he wrote on X and posted the video.
In the video, Johnson shows off his hat with the word "Alcatraz" written on it, just below a picture of an alligator. Throughout the video, he talks about the merchandise with a smile on his face. People have slammed him for being insensitive while talking about a space that is constructed to detain people. Take a look at the video: What did social media say?
Slamming Johnson, an individual posted, 'These are human beings you're laughing about.' Another added, 'Imagine nazi merch back in the 1930s with 'Alligator Auschwitz' plastered on them as the camps were being built. That's where we're at right now.'
A third joined, 'Benny, that place will be housing Americans in the not so distant future. Won't be so cool then.' Also Read: Man who rescued Florida girl from shark attack arrested by ICE, faces deportation
A fourth wrote, 'While I agree with a lot of what's going on. The boasting of us building prisons, jails, and taunting people being deported sets us a class below the rest of the world. It's incredulous to see a world where we are making a mockery of such things.'
A few, however, showed support for Johnson, adding that they love his new hat. Why the nickname "Alligator Alcatraz'?
The detention center dubbed 'Alligator Alcatraz' by officials is 'surrounded by swamps filled with mosquitoes, pythons and alligators.' Talking about the detention center, US President Donald Trump said, 'We're surrounded by miles of treacherous swampland and the only way out is, really, deportation,' Trump said, adding, 'This is an amazing thing that they've done here.'
'This is what you need. A lot of bodyguards and a lot of cops in the form of alligators.' the president added.
'This 30-square-mile [78sq-km] area is completely surrounded by the Everglades. It presents an efficient, low-cost opportunity to build a temporary detention facility because you don't need to invest that much in the perimeter,' said State Attorney General James Uthmeier.
'If people get out, there's not much waiting for them other than alligators and pythons. Nowhere to go. Nowhere to hide," Uthmeier continued. (With inputs from Reuters)

"Shame": Vivek Ramaswamy Slams Racial Attacks Targeting Indian-Origin Leaders
Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy has slammed the "race-obsessed fringe of the right" for targeting Indian-origin figures, including New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and Usha Vance, the wife of US vice-president JD Vance. "It's a shame to watch the race-obsessed fringe of the right try to outdo the race-obsessed woke left," the former presidential candidate posted on X. His response followed a post by white nationalist influencer Nick Fuentes, who criticised conservatives for selectively targeting non-white political figures. Fuentes wrote, "When conservatives attack Zohran Mamdani for being a foreigner, I just want them to keep the same energy with Vivek Ramaswamy and Usha Vance. Let's be consistent." It's a shame to watch the race-obsessed fringe of the right try to outdo the race-obsessed woke left. — Vivek Ramaswamy (@VivekGRamaswamy) July 1, 2025 The exchange comes amid mounting backlash against Mamdani following a viral video in which he was eating rice with his hands during an interview. The clip, captioned "Zohran says his worldview is inspired by the 3rd world while eating rice with his hands," led to outrage among some conservative commentators. Texas Republican Congressman Brandon Gill joined the criticism, tweeting, "Civilised people in America don't eat like this. If you refuse to adopt Western customs, go back to the Third World." Usha Chilukuri Vance was born in California to Hindu parents from Andhra Pradesh. Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and political commentator, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Tamil Brahmin parents from Vadakkencherry in Kerala. In May, his anniversary tribute to his wife, Apoorva, was met with a wave of racist and xenophobic comments online. Several users told the Indian-origin couple to "go back to India" and made derogatory remarks about their appearance and nationality. Zohran Mamdani, born in Kampala, Uganda, to Indian parents, renowned academic Mahmood Mamdani and filmmaker Mira Nair, has Gujarati Muslim and Punjabi Hindu roots. He is the first Muslim Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City. Earlier, Zohran Mamdani condemned President Donald Trump's threat to arrest and deport him, saying he " will not accept this intimidation." Trump said Mamdani should be arrested if he prevented Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from operating in New York City. Trump also questioned Mamdani's citizenship and labelled him a "communist" and "total nut job" during a speech, suggesting he would "have fun" with Mamdani if he were elected. The 33-year-old, who became a US citizen in 2018, called Trump's comments an attack on democracy and an attempt to scare outspoken New Yorkers into silence.

‘Melania Trump needs to go': Thousands sign petition calling for the first lady, her parents and Barron's deportation
Americans have started a petition asking the government to deport Melania Trump, her parents and Barron Trump amid President Donald Trump's deportation efforts. The Move On petition is titled, 'Deport Melania, Melania's parents and Baron in the first round of deportations!' 'Deport Melania Trump, her parents and Barron': Thousands sign petition calling for first lady to leave US (AP Photo/Alex Brandon)(AP) 'Since Trump wants to deport naturalized citizens, I believe it is only fair that Melania and her parents are on the first boat out,' the page reads. 'In addition, Melania's anchor baby, Baron, should be forced to leave as well because we know that his mother's mother was born in a different country. That is part of the criteria that Trump is putting into place. Your mother's mother has to have been born in the United States and we know Melania's mother was born elsewhere. If it's good for one, it's good for all! There should be no exceptions! On the first boat or flight out!' 'It is important that this is done to show that it is not a matter of favoritism. If this is truly about national security, the Melania needs to go!' it adds. The petition had garnered 2,931 of 3,000 signatures at the time of writing this article. Controversy around Melania Trump's US citizenship Earlier this year, Congresswoman Maxine Waters called for the deportation of Melania, saying Trump should "first look at Melania's records.' "We don't know whether or not her parents were documented. And maybe we better just take a look," Waters said at a rally in Los Angeles. 'If he wants to start looking so closely to find those who were born here and their parents were undocumented, maybe he ought to first look at Melania.' According to the US Embassy, Melania was born in Slovenia in 1970. She moved to New York in 1996 and became a US citizen 10 years later. She happens to be the second US first lady born outside of the United States, as well as the first US first lady to become a naturalized citizen. In the mid-1990s, Melania came to the US to pursue a career in modelling. However, details about her immigration status before she obtained a green card in 2001 have remained unclear, often sparking speculations and controversies about whether or not she had maintained legal immigration status throughout her time in the US.

US Senate passes One Big Beautiful Bill; NCC voices strong support
The US Senate has passed the comprehensive 'One Big Beautiful Bill' Act, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. The bill now awaits formal approval from President Donald Trump. The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) Act eliminates federal taxes on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security income. It also includes expanded child tax credits and a tax break on car loans for American-made vehicles. On the economic front, the legislation aims to protect two million family farms from so-called 'double taxation' and bolster US energy production. Supporters say it will reduce energy prices and end reliance on foreign oil, the White House said in a statement. US Senate has passed the 'One Big Beautiful Bill' Act with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. The sweeping legislation eliminates federal taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security, expands child tax credits, and supports US-made car purchases. The NCC has praised the bill for enhancing farm safety nets and urged the US House of Representatives to pass it swiftly. The bill also claims to reduce the national deficit by over $2 trillion through spending cuts and the rollback of funding related to environmental initiatives. Additionally, the bill includes major provisions to deport one million undocumented migrants annually, expand border enforcement, and strengthen Medicaid for vulnerable Americans. It modernises air traffic control, boosts defence with a 'Golden Dome' missile shield, and invests in the Coast Guard. The National Cotton Council (NCC) has applauded the efforts of the US Senate, and the Senate Agriculture Committee, to ensure passage of the Act. This key legislation includes language that strengthens the farm safety net and provides necessary enhancements to support farmers navigating the current economic environment, it said in a press release. 'The NCC appreciates the momentous effort that has gone into crafting and passing the One Big Beautiful Bill,' said NCC chairman, Patrick Johnson . 'We are grateful for the Senate's commitment to delivering meaningful enhancements to the cotton safety net, which is absolutely critical for the stability and future of our industry.' The NCC said that it strongly supports the OBBB Act and has now urged the US House of Representatives to swiftly take up and pass this legislation. Commenting on the Act, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said: 'Today's Senate vote is a major step forward in enacting President Trump's agenda to revitalise the American economy and provide certainty to households and businesses alike. Senate Republicans have taken decisive action to prevent a $4 trillion tax hike on hardworking Americans, while securing No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, new tax cuts for seniors, and vital provisions for the manufacturing sector. 'I appreciate the tireless work of leader Thune and chairman Crapo to usher this legislation through the Senate and closer to the President's desk. We encourage House Republicans to act quickly so that we can deliver on President Trump's promises to power the future of our economy and ensure the United States remains the world's premier destination for capital and innovation.'
