Consumers are beginning to turn away from AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, new data shows

Consumer anger over what has been termed as predatory practices is moving beyond social media. AT&T , T-Mobile , and Verizon have all raised prices in recent months. As a result, rivals including cable companies that have branched out into telecommunication and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) are gaining customers at a fast clip.
AT&T
Verizon
Cox, which has decided to merge with Charter, has approximately 200,000 mobile lines, which is impressive given the company only started offering mobile services across all its markets in January 2023. The company is believed to have been adding 20,000 to 25,000 phone lines every quarter, per data from research institute MoffettNathanson shared by Light Reading .

Overall, the cable industry accounted for 18 percent of total mobile industry gross additions, which is the total number of subscribers added in a period without accounting for cancellations. While impressive, this performance wasn't enough to beat out the Big 3 outdo T-Mobile (around 30 percent), Verizon (nearly 27 percent), and AT&T (approximately 24 percent).
It's easy to make a connection here: some, if not all, of the postpaid pain has been inflicted on AT&T , T-Mobile , and Verizon by cable companies.

The old trick to secure a Verizon loyalty discount is still working, get it before it's taken away

Verizon recently began taking away its customers' loyalty discounts, leading many to switch carriers. The company seems to be rolling it back, and has just announced a new loyalty discount. But, on top of that, the old trick for getting a discount on Verizon is still working as well. For now, at least.A while back, Verizon users found out that there were multiple ways to get the carrier to gift you a discount. The most reliable method seemed to be to request a transfer out PIN. In an effort to keep you around a little while longer, the company would offer you a loyalty discount. Apparently, this method is still working for now. The thing is, many of Verizon 's customers were only sticking around because of their discounts. A lot of people would say that the carrier didn't have good coverage in their area, or that the customer support was unsatisfactory, but the cheap monthly bills were good enough to stay. Prior to disabling loyalty discounts, Verizon was throwing them around like candy in a desperate attempt at customer retention. There was a point where the carrier's actions seemed almost nonsensical, and it seemed that Verizon had a pricing it appears that Verizon miscalculated how many of its users would stick around after losing their discounts. Verizon store employees likely saw some angry customers recently. | Image credit — Verizon If you now request a port out PIN, you will likely be offered another loyalty discount, though at this point they should really call them retention discounts instead. This discount can be as high as $20 a month, and may even be more depending on your plan. During Verizon 's aforementioned pricing crisis, some customers were even getting $40 discounts. You won't even have to talk to a customer service representative if you don't feel like it: the discount can be claimed from within the app. Thankfully, the app isn't being made mandatory for everything just yet, unlike what T-Mobile is doing with T-Life. If you've been thinking about leaving Verizon , this might be your sign to stay put. Request a transfer out PIN, and see if you get a new loyalty discount. If you do, awesome! However, if you don't, well…you were leaving anyway. Good news everyone! T-Mobile announces Pixel 10 deals, US Mobile says it has the lowest Pixel 10 prices

US Mobile is celebrating Super Week, which it calls its first year anniversary of becoming a "Super Carrier," allowing subscribers to switch among the big three major networks on one plan. To celebrate, US Mobile is announcing what it calls the lowest pricing in the market. The Pixel 10 is priced at $529 or $499 with an annual Unlimited plan. Moving up the ladder, the Pixel 10 Pro is $699 or $669 with an annual Unlimited plan. At the very top is the Pixel 10 Pro XL, which US Mobile has priced at $819 or $789 with an annual Unlimited plan. The new phones will be shipped starting on August 28th. Within the week, US Mobile's Super Week pricing on its plans will drop the cost of its Unlimited Premium plan to $35 per month or $299 for 12 months. Unlimited Starter will be available for $199 for the year. US Mobile says that the last time it had deals like this, the devices were sold out in minutes. Google's Pixel 10 family makes its T-Mobile debut with killer launch deals and a T-Satellite first

Whether you're a T-Mobile customer or not, you've probably gotten used to seeing the nation-leading "Un-carrier" overshadow its rivals pretty much whenever an exciting new phone is released with unbeatable deals and discounts. But while that's unsurprisingly the case for the Pixel 10, 10 Pro, and 10 Pro XL today as well, Magenta is also making waves and eclipsing Verizon and AT&T with an unexpected announcement and a special treat for early adopters of Google's latest ultra-high-end handsets. The Tensor G5-powered Pixel 10 has just been announced, and it's already available for pre-order at Amazon with a sweet $100 gift card. Reserve yours before this promo expires. Pre-order at Amazon Looking for a more flagship Pixel 10 experience in a compact form factor? Consider the Pixel 10 Pro instead! It's available for pre-order at Amazon with a $200 gift card! Pre-order at Amazon Users after a larger screen and a serious Gemini AI prowess should consider the latest Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. The just-announced flagship is available for pre-order with a $200 Amazon Gift Card. Pre-order at Amazon You know how T-Mo's much-hyped Starlink-powered satellite-to-mobile service is (partially) available on devices as diverse as Apple's iPhone 13, Google's Pixel 9 , Samsung's Galaxy A14, Galaxy A35, Galaxy S21, S25, Z Flip 3, Z Fold 3, Motorola Edge (2025), Razr (2024), and Moto G Stylus (2024)? Well, not only is that list being predictably expanded to include the Pixel 10 , Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL now, but the three new Google-made phones are officially opening a separate and slightly more impressive list. Because of that, I wouldn't consider the Pixel 10 family's full T-Satellite support a huge advantage over the likes of Samsung's Galaxy S25 lineup. But it's still a very cool thing to get before everyone else, guaranteeing unrivaled coverage in places where you wouldn't expect to be able to browse the web on your phone. As T-Mobile explains it, "if you can see the sky, you're connected", at least as far as things like navigation, location sharing, and device finding are concerned. That's right, not all apps will work on your Pixel 10 -series device through T-Satellite, but Google Maps sounds especially useful. Up next, Magenta appears to be suggesting the iPhone 17 family will get the same early T-Satellite data activation treatment in September, followed by many other Android 16 and iOS 26-running devices after October 1. Add a new line of service to an existing account or open an entirely new one. That's it, that's the whole deal, and you (almost) don't need to meet any other special requirements. Well, you do have to purchase the "vanilla" Pixel 10 on a monthly installment plan and be fine with your $800 discount being applied to your bill as monthly credits over a period of two years, but that's pretty standard stuff for these types of promotions. It's incredibly easy to save a massive $800 on this beaut already. | Image Credit -- Google What's amazing about T-Mobile 's Pixel 10 launch offer is that even an affordable plan like Essentials qualifies for the full $800 discount, and if you don't want to add a new service line, you can opt for an "eligible" device trade-in instead. Oh, and the Pixel 10 Pro can also be knocked down from its $999.99 list price to $0, but in that case, you'll need to do an "eligible" trade-in on a costlier Experience Beyond or Experience Beyond for Business plan or add a new Business Unlimited Ultimate line and ditch your existing phone from an eligibility list that includes everything from the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 9 to Apple's iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 12 .
