Oman, Algeria explore means of boosting economic and investment ties
The meetings took place on the sidelines of Oman's participation as the guest of honor at the Algiers International Fair.
Al Yousef held separate discussions with Saïd Grib, Algeria's Minister of Industry, Kamel Rezig, Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Tayeb Zitouni, Minister of Domestic Trade and Market Regulation and Omar Rekkache, Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency.
The meetings focused on expanding cooperation and partnerships in industry, trade and investment by activating existing agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries. Discussions also covered means of facilitating joint projects, increasing trade volumes, and boosting bilateral investments.
Key investment opportunities in manufacturing, food processing, and real estate sectors were explored, along with incentives and facilities offered to investors in both countries.
Al Yousef emphasized that these meetings reflect the joint communique issued during the historic state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to Algeria last May, which laid the foundation for a new phase of multifaceted cooperation. He affirmed both nations' commitment to strengthening industrial, commercial, and investment partnerships, noting Algeria's keen interest in creating broader opportunities for Omani business leaders and investors across economic sectors.
As part of the visit, Al Yousef conducted a field tour of the Rouiba Industrial Zone and the National Company for General Industries, which specializes in energy and petroleum equipment, as well as companies in dairy and sugar production.
The Omani delegation comprised Saif Nasser Al Badai, Oman's Ambassador to Algeria, Faisal Abdullah Al Rowas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Eng. Dawood Salim Al Haddabi, CEO of Madayn (Public Establishment for Industrial Estates), representatives from government and private sectors, as well as business leaders.

Trump rules out trade talks with India amid tariff dispute
Washington, D.C. : US President Donald Trump has said there will be no trade negotiations with India until a dispute over tariffs is resolved, following his administration's decision to double tariffs on Indian imports. The White House on Wednesday issued an Executive Order imposing an additional 25 percentage points in tariffs on Indian goods, raising the total levy to 50%. The order also provides flexibility for the president to modify the measures, depending on changing geopolitical circumstances or retaliatory actions by India or other nations. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded defiantly during a speech at the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference in New Delhi, signalling that New Delhi would not back down in the face of economic pressure. "For us, the interest of our farmers is our top priority," PM Modi said. "India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. I know we will have to pay a heavy price for it, and I am ready for it. India is ready for it." India has consistently pushed back against opening sensitive sectors such as agriculture and dairy to international competition, citing the potential impact on millions of rural livelihoods.

Foreign Minister receives written message from Saudi counterpart
Muscat: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, received a written message from Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The message is related to the bilateral relations between the two countries and matters of mutual interest. The message was handed over to Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs, when he received today Ibrahim bin Saad bin Bishan, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Oman. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Ahmed bin Hashil Al Maskari, Head of the GCC and Regional Neighbourhood Department at the Foreign Ministry.

Plastic-Free Market initiative launched in North Al Sharqiyah
Sinaw: The Environment Authority today launched the "Plastic-Free Market" initiative in several traditional open-air markets across the North A'Sharqiyah Governorate, as part of its ongoing efforts to implement the third phase of Ministerial Decision No. (8/2024) regarding the ban on plastic shopping bags. Mohammed Amer Al Hajri, Director of the Environment Department in the governorate, explained that the initiative includes an awareness week targeting commercial outlets and traditional markets in the wilayats of North A'Sharqiyah. The campaign began today with a visit to the 'Thursday Market' in the Wilayat of Sinaw and will continue next week to cover the 'Monday Market' in Wadi Bani Khalid, the 'Tuesday Markets' in Al Mudhaibi and Bidiyah, the 'Wednesday Market' in Ibra, as well as traditional markets in the wilayats of Al Qabil and Dima wa Al-Ta'een. He clarified that the initiative aims to raise environmental awareness among vendors and marketgoers by educating them on the importance of reducing plastic bag usage and replacing them with eco-friendly alternatives. Al Hajri noted that the campaign includes distributing multilingual awareness brochures (in Arabic, English, and Urdu) to ensure the environmental message reaches all segments of society, in addition to providing reusable bags to shop owners and consumers. He added that the campaign involves participation from members of the student environmental council from higher education institutions in the governorate, reflecting the importance of engaging youth in environmental initiatives and strengthening community partnerships. It is worth mentioning that the Environment Authority continues to implement awareness programs and initiatives in North A'Sharqiyah, with the aim of promoting positive environmental practices and achieving a clean, safe, and sustainable environment across all wilayats of the governorate.
