Avoid these US cities if you don't want to be bored

Independent5 days ago
A recent analysis by FinanceBuzz, a personal finance website, identified the most boring cities in the United States.
The study assessed 75 of the largest US cities, rating them based on factors including population makeup, culinary scene, outdoor activities, nightlife, and cultural events.
Jacksonville, Florida, was ranked as the most boring city, primarily due to its high concentration of chain restaurants and a low number of nightclubs and concert venues.
Other cities featuring in the top 10, such as Wichita and Corpus Christi, were noted for having few award-winning restaurants, limited attractions, or a high proportion of chain eateries.
Common reasons for cities being deemed boring included a scarcity of unique attractions, poor quality parks, and a low number of annual events or entertainment venues.

10 States Where Auto Insurance Claims Are Most Rejected and Why

Common reasons and trends Needing to file an auto insurance claim is never fun, and claim denial is salt in the wound. A recent study by Anidjar & Levin has revealed the three U.S. states with the highest volume of insurance claim denials, common reasons for denials, and concrete advice to help drivers avoid these instances. GM sued for selling driver data to insurers Watch More The study found that 5-15% of car insurance claims are denied annually, with California leading the way at 4,800 complaints. However, higher instances of denial aren't the only challenges Californians face during the claims process, as delayed payments and contentious settlements are also common. Texas had the second-highest rate of auto insurance denials, with 4,200 complaints, compounded by issues with claim handling and low settlement offers. Florida came in third with 3,800 complaints of claim denials. Fraud, uninsured drivers, and delayed settlements are reported as common within the Sunshine State. These issues can be avoided through careful attention to policy details, timely reporting, and thorough documentation. Your auto insurance policy is designed to act as a safety net after an accident, providing financial protection and peace of mind in times of need. However, with the increasing number of denied claims in Florida, this safety net no longer seems to hold as securely as it should.' Actionable steps drivers can take to protect themselves from claim denial Some drivers can face claim denial because they didn't make timely premium payments, which autopay can help solve. You should also review your policy's exclusions to ensure coverage for your use of the vehicle. For example, a claim may be denied if someone not on your policy is driving at the time of an incident. You'll also want to read your policy to identify potential violations that could result in denial, such as breaking traffic laws. If an incident occurs, provide accurate and complete information, including any relevant details about the accident and any damage. Supporting documentation can consist of photos, police reports, witness statements, and repair estimates. It's also best to disclose the event as quickly as possible, ideally within 24 hours, to avoid denial through late reporting. A few of the most common reasons for denial were fraud, uninsured drivers, policy lapses, and coverage disputes. Drivers can mitigate the chances of denial by reviewing their policy, providing thorough documentation to support a claim, filing promptly, setting up automatic premium payments, and following traffic laws. Keep your insurer updated on any changes, such as additional drivers, and double-check claims forms for accuracy and completion. If your claim is denied, you can request a written explanation of the decision and appeal. About the Author Cody Carlson View Profile

Europe should activate countermeasures against Trump tariffs, lawmaker says

BERLIN, July 12 (Reuters) - A senior European lawmaker said on Saturday Brussels should react immediately with countermeasures against U.S. President Donald Trump's "outrageous" threat to hike tariffs on imports from the European Union. The EU had been negotiating intensively with Washington for more than three weeks and had made concessions, said Bernd Lange, the head of the European Parliament's trade committee. The bloc had also suspended all countermeasures after the U.S. imposed an initial tariff of 20% on European imports in April. "It is brazen and disrespectful to increase the tariffs on European goods announced on April 2 from 20% to 30%," Lange told Reuters. "This is a slap in the face for the negotiations. This is no way to deal with a key trading partner," he added. Europe should make it clear that these "unfair trade practices" were unacceptable, Lange said. "We have postponed the first stage of our countermeasures for the time being, but I am firmly convinced that they must now be implemented immediately," he said. "The first list of countermeasures must be activated on Monday as planned, and the second list should also follow quickly."

Utah city is best run city in America, according to new data

An idyllic mountain hub has just been crowned the best-run city in America, and the mayor says the secret is simple. Provo, Utah, has earned a spot at the top of a new ranking from financial services company WalletHub. WalletHub evaluated 148 cities across the US based on 36 key metrics grouped into six main categories: financial stability, education, health, safety, economy, and infrastructure/pollution. These were then measured against each city's per capita budget to determine efficiency. San Francisco, which had a high crime rate, ranked last. Provo was praised for the city's strong local leadership, low crime, economic growth, and infrastructure. Its focus on safety, community involvement, and smart spending led it straight to the top. Local real estate expert Joel Carson wasn't surprised by the recognition. 'I'm not surprised to see Provo recognized as the best-run city in America — it's well-deserved,' Carson told Daily Mail. He continued: 'The city's leadership, infrastructure investments, and focus on public safety have created a stable, thriving environment that continues to attract buyers from all over.' Mayor Michelle Kaufusi told Fox News Digital she wasn't surprised by the news because her administration has spent years focusing on what really matters — the basics. 'We've always believed in getting the basics right first,' Kaufusi told the outlet. 'And that's quality schools, safe neighborhoods, well-maintained roads, and responsible budgeting.' The statistics prove her style of leadership might be working. Provo has many perks, including boasting the fourth-lowest violent crime rate and the seventh-lowest property crime rate in the entire nation. Just two years ago, the city was voted the safest large city in the US. The national recognition already means increased interest from potential residents. 'We've definitely seen an uptick in out-of-state interest, particularly from buyers relocating for tech jobs, education opportunities, and the overall quality of life,' Carson explained. 'Demand has remained strong in recent years, and in many ways, the market is performing above average, even as other areas have cooled.' Provo is seeing a shifting demographic with its increased popularity. 'We're seeing more relocation buyers from California, Texas, and the Pacific Northwest, often drawn by job opportunities in tech, education, or remote work flexibility,' Carson said. 'There's also been a noticeable increase in younger families and first-time buyers who are looking for long-term value and quality of life,' he added. The real estate market in Provo has diverse inventory, appealing to all types of preferences. 'People are often surprised at how diverse the inventory is,' he said. 'From charming historic homes near downtown to modern developments on the east bench, there's a broad range of options, and at prices that are still more accessible than many other growing cities, even with recent increases.' But it's the small-town feel that really attracts residents. 'Provo has a small-town feel with big-city resources, whether it's the support for local businesses, the events downtown, or the pride residents take in their neighborhoods, there's a genuine connection here that's hard to find elsewhere,' Carson said. But this booming popularity comes with a cost, and current residents might feel it. Carson warns that Provo's newfound fame is driving up housing costs and making it more difficult for locals to find affordable homes. 'With increased recognition comes increased demand, which can put pressure on housing affordability and availability,' he said. 'Longtime residents may find it more competitive to move within the area, and first-time buyers can face challenges breaking into the market.' 'That said, Provo's leadership has been proactive in balancing growth with smart development, which helps ease those concerns.' 'This kind of national recognition only reinforces what we already know locally: Provo is a standout city with a bright future, and the real estate market is reflecting that momentum,' Carson added. 'So all of those factors come into play. It seems to put the spotlight on us and that's what brings people to Provo.' 'And we love it and [it] brings business and we're open for business. So we are really honored and really humbled that we got to be called out for this [honor] today.' While inventory might be 'tighter than usual' and prices have risen, still, compared to other fast-growing markets, Provo still offers solid value, he said. 'The good news is that new developments are helping to meet demand, and interest remains strong, so while it's competitive, it's also an exciting time to be involved in the market.'
