The current deal with Disney's (DIS) ESPN is set to conclude following the present racing season. The network had encouraged F1 to explore other options after its exclusive negotiation window expired at the end of 2024. It must be noted that ESPN, which pays nearly $90 million per year for the rights, is not expected to match or exceed Apple's offer.
Securing a deal with AAPL, which operates the Apple TV+ streaming service, would guarantee F1 a major financial gain. However, such a move carries the risk of potentially limiting the sport's overall viewership exposure compared to the broader reach offered by a traditional major network like ESPN.
Why Does Apple Want F1 Rights?
Apple's bid comes after its recent F1-themed movie starring Brad Pitt became its biggest box office hit, grossing over $300 million globally.
With growing U.S. interest in Formula 1, Apple sees it as an opportunity to expand its Apple TV+ sports portfolio, which already includes Major League Soccer and MLB's Friday Night Baseball.
While AAPL has not confirmed how it will package F1 content, it's likely to be offered as a standalone subscription or bundled with Apple TV+.
Is Apple a Buy, Sell, or Hold?
Turning to Wall Street, AAPL stock has a Moderate Buy consensus rating based on 16 Buys, 10 Holds, and one Sell assigned in the last three months. At $228.27, the average Apple stock price target implies an 8.1% upside potential.

Advanced metric highlights Dyami Brown's potential in Jaguars' offense
An advanced receiving metric from ESPN highlights the potential that WR Dyami Brown has in the Jaguars' offense. When the Jacksonville Jaguars signed wide receiver Dyami Brown in free agency, the team viewed him as an ascending player, especially within Liam Coen's offense. ESPN's advanced Receiver Score metric helps illustrate why the Jaguars felt that way. Using tracking data from NFL Next Gen Stats, this metric evaluates every route a pass catcher runs and scores their performance based on whether or not they got open, if they made the reception, and any YAC that was picked up. From there, an overall score is generated, and among all wide receivers and tight ends last season, Brown ranked 46th. Brown's production has been modest throughout his career. His 30 receptions and 308 receiving yards during the 2024 regular season were both career highs. However, during the playoffs, we got a glimpse of his potential when Brown totaled 229 receiving yards in three games with Washington. The addition of Brown to the Jaguars' offense adds more speed with his ability to win vertically and turn short-area throws or designed touches into explosive plays with his YAC abilities. But Coen views Brown as someone who can make an impact on the intermediate routes as well, allowing him to attack all levels of the field. Being able to move around the formation and make plays in all areas of the field is an important element to playing wideout in this scheme. "You didn't really see him work the intermediate that much [in Washington], and I think over the course of this spring, Trevor and him have gained a little bit of a chemistry on some of those intermediate in-breakers, curls, maybe outcuts," Coen said, via Michael DiRocco of ESPN. Brown has also caught the attention of quarterback Trevor Lawrence this offseason as well. 'Man, I've been super impressed with him," Lawrence said during minicamp. "His speed. Obviously, he is a threat down the field, which is important as a receiver who can stretch the field. But also, he's a really, really smart football player." Brown will join Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter as one of the Jaguars' top options in the passing game this season.
