Ridley season 3: Will the show return for another series of the gripping drama?
Sure, the second season might not have officially ended yet (although you *can* binge all four episodes on ITVX), but we like to be prepared when it comes to our TV. All in the name of five star entertainment journalism, of course. Clearly, we're not the only ones feeling this way, either. "Please let there be a series three," one fan wrote on X, as another celebrated its return, posting: "Good to have #Ridley back."
So, will Ridley return for a third season? Here's everything we know so far about a potential Ridley season three as well as which of the current Ridley cast might appear...
ITV is yet to confirm if there will be a third instalment of Ridley, but the cast of the hit show have spoken out in hopes that there will be – which has to be a positive sign, right?
Speaking to Country & Town House, Bronagh Waugh (who plays DI Carol Farman on Ridley, and who is also currently appearing in Channel 4's In Flight), said: "There are plenty of [plot] ideas if we are lucky enough to get a third series."
Waugh went on to say that it would be "really interesting" for the show to continue delving into the private lives of its central detectives, as well as the cases. That being said, "let's see what happens," she added.
Ridley wouldn't be Ridley without Alex Ridley himself, played by Adrian Dunbar, so if a third season is commissioned, we're sure this role would be reprised. However, scheduling conflicts could put a spanner in the works, as there's been talks lately of a Line of Duty season seven, which would surely take up a lot of Dunbar's time if it's given the green light from the BBC.
Given her comments about a potential third season, we'd also hope to see Bronagh Waugh return as Ridley's former protege, DI Carol Farman. As for the rest of the show's cast, if a third season follows the current format – that being, a new case solved every episode – then we can expect to see plenty of new characters joining the likes of Dunbar and Waugh, in addition to the recurring cast that includes Terence Maynard as DCI Paul Goodwin, George Bukhari as DC Darren Lakhan, and Georgie Glen as pathologist Dr Wendy Newstone.
Season one of Ridley was released in the UK on 28 August 2022, while season two arrived on 10 August 2025. Following that timeline – and, if cast scheduling conflicts don't add further delays – a third season could be on our TV screens in August 2028, but considering there's been no official confirmation of a Ridley season three, this is all speculative!
In the meantime, both series of Ridley are available to stream on ITVX.

North Shore Season 2: Release date speculation, cast and plot details – Everything we know so far
By Aman Shukla Published on August 19, 2025, 20:00 IST Last updated August 19, 2025, 12:47 IST Fans of North Shore, the gripping Australian crime thriller, can't stop buzzing about the possibility of a second season. With its intense murder mystery, stunning Sydney Harbour backdrop, and a stellar cast led by Joanne Froggatt and John Bradley, the show hooked viewers from the start. After wrapping up its first season in 2023, the big question on everyone's mind is: what's next for North Shore? Here's a deep dive into all the details about Season 2. Release Date Speculation for North Shore Season 2 Since there's no official word on renewal, pinning down a release date for Season 2 is tricky. If filming did start in late 2023 as rumored, production timelines for similar shows suggest a potential premiere in late 2025 or early 2026. For context, Season 1 dropped on Network 10 in May 2023 and hit ITVX in the UK in December 2024, with Netflix picking it up in June 2025. If renewed, expect a similar rollout, possibly on Network 10, Paramount+, ITVX, or Netflix. Fans should keep an eye on the official North Shore page on Paramount+ or Network 10 for the latest updates. Until then, late 2025 feels like a reasonable guess, but nothing's set in stone. Who's in the Cast for North Shore Season 2? Assuming Season 2 gets the green light, the core cast is likely to return, given their pivotal roles in the first season's success. Here's who to expect based on Season 1's lineup: Joanne Froggatt as Abigail Crawford: The UK Trade Minister dealing with the tragic loss of her daughter Sophie. Froggatt, known for Downton Abbey and Liar, brings emotional depth that could carry over into new storylines. John Bradley as D.S. Max Drummond: The British detective whose chemistry with his Australian counterpart stole the show. Bradley, a Game of Thrones alum, shines as the sharp yet relatable cop. Kirsty Sturgess as D.S. Meg Driscoll: The Aussie detective clashing with Max while unraveling the case. Her dynamic with Bradley is a fan favorite. Dan Spielman as Simon Chalcott: Abigail's husband, whose arc could tie into lingering secrets from Season 1. Rob Carlton as Lloyd Macklin: The shady businessman with loose ends that could fuel a new season. Matt Passmore as Greg Hardy: The opposition leader whose political ties might spark fresh drama. Rhys Muldoon as D.C.I. Andrew Newell: A key figure in the investigation, likely to return for more. Supporting players like Claire Lovering (Tori), Chris Alosio, and others could also pop up, depending on the plot. New faces might join if the story introduces a fresh case, but no casting rumors have surfaced yet. The ensemble's chemistry, praised across reviews, makes their return a safe bet. What to Expect in North Shore Season 2? Season 1 wrapped up the murder of Sophie, Abigail's daughter, with a jaw-dropping twist that left viewers reeling. While the main case closed, loose threads and character dynamics set the stage for more. Here's what the plot might explore, based on hints from Season 1 and fan speculation: A New Case for Max and Meg : The British-Aussie duo could tackle another Sydney-based murder, possibly linked to international politics or shady deals. Their clashing styles and growing bond would keep the banter alive. Unresolved Threads : Season 1 dropped clues about Lloyd Macklin's shady dealings and a mysterious caller tipping off Max and Abigail. These could unravel into a bigger conspiracy. Personal Stakes : Abigail's grief and Max's strained relationship with his partner Anna could deepen, adding emotional weight to a new investigation. Sydney's Elite Under Fire: The show loves exposing the dark side of the city's high society. Expect more scandals, power plays, and secrets in the 'big end of town.' Creator Mike Bullen, known for Cold Feet , has a knack for blending grit with heart, so any new season would likely balance thrilling crime with character-driven drama. No official plot details exist yet, but fans are eager for another twist-filled ride. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . 'Ridley' Season Three: The Possible Returning Cast And Release Date
Season 2 of ITV's Ridley is still ongoing and while we're just at the halfway point of the gritty crime drama, we wouldn't blame you for already wondering if a third season is on the cards. Since the release of the second series on 10 August, the show has claimed its place at the top of every British detective fan's watchlist – joining the ranks of Dept Q, Slow Horses and The Day of the Jackal. But, as the season edges ever closer to its finale, fans have been left with one burning question: will Ridley continue to take over our screens with another thrilling chapter? With the show's mix of slow-burn excellence, high tension and complex characters, there's no doubt that the series has potential for more. Here's everything we know about the potential return of Ridley. As it currently stands, ITV has not yet confirmed whether there will be a third season of Ridley. However, during a recent interview with Country & Town House, Bronagh Waugh, who stars as DI Carol Farman, stated the following: 'There are plenty of [plot] ideas if we are lucky enough to get a third series.' Waugh also went on to add what she'd like the potential third season to cover. 'I think it would be really interesting to keep delving into the detectives' private lives as well as the cases,' she said. 'So let's see what happens…' Of course, Ridley wouldn't be the same without its titular character Alex Ridley, who is played by Adrian Dunbar. Therefore, if a third season is on the cards, there's no doubt that he'll be back, so long as there are no conflicts in Dunbar's schedule. Alongside him, viewers would also expect to see the return of Bronagh Waugh (DI Carol Farman), Georgie Glen (Dr. Wendy Newstone), Terence Maynard (DCI Paul Goodwin) and George Bukhari (DC Darren Lakhan). As nothing has yet been confirmed, the possible release date is unknown – but given that season one first premiered in the UK in August 2022, and the second season was released in August 2025, the third season would likely premiere in August 2028. ITV's 'Ridley' Season 2: A Reminder Of Who Jean Dixon Is And What Happened With Her In Season 1
Ridley is back for its second season, bringing with it the familiar cocktail of small-town murders, brooding countryside atmospherics, and Adrian Dunbar's characteristic chaos back to the our screens once again. But the most recent episode, 'The Hollow Tree,' introduced a complication that threatens to derail everything: the return of Jean Dixon, a detective whose past mistakes could prove more dangerous than any killer. When a woman's body is discovered in the hollow of an ancient tree, the case immediately becomes personal for the team. The victim is Kathy, who vanished without trace six years ago, leaving behind a devastated daughter and a cold case that destroyed one detective's career. That detective was Jean Dixon, played by Elizabeth Berrington, and her involvement in this new investigation promises to complicate matters considerably. Jean isn't just any disgraced cop – she's someone with deep personal connections to both the case and the team investigating it. Six years ago, when Kathy first disappeared, Jean was convinced she had her man: Kathy's partner seemed the obvious suspect. But Jean's investigation went catastrophically wrong, leading to her eventual downfall and departure from the force. Now, with Kathy's body finally discovered, Jean's the only person who understands the original case well enough to help solve it. The problem is that Kathy's daughter Sam trusts only Jean, creating an impossible situation. The team needs Jean's expertise and Sam's cooperation, but bringing Jean back into the fold means reopening old wounds and confronting the mistakes that ended her career. Jean herself is wrestling with her own demons – not just the professional failures that haunt her, but personal complications involving her new partner and her daughter Molly, who can't seem to get along. For longtime viewers, Jean Dixon's return carries particular weight. She first appeared in Ridley's opening episode, arriving at Ridley's doorstep with news of a murder that would ultimately expose her own professional misconduct. The case involved Jesse Halpin, connected to the disappearance of three-year-old Zoe – a investigation Jean had originally led years earlier. Jean's handling of the Zoe case revealed the depths of her desperation to close difficult cases. She had arrested a man named Preston, but when Ridley re-examined the evidence, it became clear that Jean had manufactured a case to fit her narrative rather than following the facts. Her confession was devastating in its simplicity: 'I did what I had to do. It was a moment... It was a misstep.' That moment of weakness had far-reaching consequences. Jean pleaded with Ridley to let sleeping dogs lie, asking him to drop his investigation 'for old time's sake.' But Ridley couldn't ignore what he'd discovered, knowing that an innocent man had suffered while the real perpetrator remained free. Jean's last scene in season one showed her walking away from their café meeting, knowing that an inquiry into her conduct was inevitable. Now she's back, and her presence raises uncomfortable questions about justice, redemption, and the price of past mistakes. Can a detective who bent the rules to breaking point be trusted to solve another case? More importantly, can Jean confront her own failures while helping to bring closure to a family she let down six years ago? With Sam refusing to speak to anyone but Jean, and vital information locked away in Jean's compromised memory of the original investigation, Ridley has created a fascinating dilemma. The path to justice might run directly through someone who perverted it before. Ridley continues tonight on ITV and is available to stream on ITVX.
