Football coach claims trial to sexual assault charges

A football coach pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to four counts of physical sexual assault against two of his trainees, who are students of a secondary school here.
KOTA TINGGI - A football coach pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to four counts of physical sexual assault against two of his trainees, who are students of a secondary school here.
Meor Azizi Zolkfle, 33, made the plea when the charges were read out before Judge Hayda Farizal Abu Hasan.
The accused, as a person in a position of trust, namely, a coach to a 13-year-and-five-month-old trainee, was charged with two counts of committing physical sexual assault on the teenager.
The offences were allegedly committed at the Bandar Penawar Stadium at 9.20 pm on May 2.
In a separate charge, the accused was alleged to have committed physical sexual assault on another trainee, aged 13 years and seven months, at a sports centre shop in Felda Sening at 8 pm on Nov 14.
He also faces a charge of committing the same offence against the same victim at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Adela field here at 7.50 pm on May 2.
The charges were framed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same Act.
Section 14(a) carries a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping, while Section 16(1) provides for an additional jail term of up to five years and not less than two strokes of the cane.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Foo Fang Leong appeared for the prosecution.
The judge allowed the accused, who is a father of two, bail of RM20,000 for all charges.
The court fixed July 17 for mention to allow for the submission of documents and the appointment of a lawyer. - BERNAMA

SEBERANG PRAI: A man was arrested and fireworks worth over RM8 million were seized and a man arrested during a General Operations Force (GOF) raid at a warehouse in Seberang Prai Tengah. Three Malaysians arrested in Singapore over RM2.6mil cigarette duty evasion
SINGAPORE: Three Malaysian men have been arrested in Singapore for suspected evasion of RM2,691,311 (about S$812,384) in cigarette duty and Goods and Services Tax (GST). Their arrest followed an enforcement operation at Gul Drive. Singapore Customs stated that during the operation on June 10, officers observed the three men, aged 24, 30, and 40, transferring brown boxes between two Malaysian-registered vehicles parked by the roadside. "Officers moved in to conduct checks and found 7,400 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes in a prime mover attached to a trailer, and 100 cartons in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). "The three men were arrested at the scene. Both vehicles and the duty-unpaid cigarettes were seized," the agency said on Tuesday, adding that the two vehicles had entered Singapore separately. Singapore Customs said the 30-year-old suspect had allegedly driven the prime mover from Malaysia, with the duty-unpaid cigarettes concealed among boxes of coffee products. The 24-year-old allegedly assisted with transferring the duty-unpaid cigarettes to the MPV, while the 40-year-old was allegedly tasked with delivering them to customers in Singapore. All suspects are believed to have been recruited by unidentified individuals in Malaysia. Court proceedings are ongoing. Buying, selling, conveying, delivering, storing, keeping, possessing, or dealing with duty-unpaid goods are serious offences under the Customs Act and the GST Act. Offenders can be fined up to 40 times the amount of duty and GST evaded and/or jailed for up to six years. Vehicles used in such offences are also subject to forfeiture.– BERNAMA
