NBI chief orders probe into alleged irregular STF operation in Malolos
The NBI-Internal Affairs Division (IAD) is also looking into allegations that personal items of the subjects were allegedly seized by NBI personnel.
According to Santiago, special orders were issued to transfer the STF personnel to different regional offices or divisions pending the investigation.
'Rest assured that the Bureau takes this matter with utmost seriousness and we are committed to take all the appropriate actions,' Santiago said in a letter.
GMA News Online has sought comment from the chief of the NBI-STF and will publish his response once available.
In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Santiago said the investigation stemmed from the complaint of the Chinese Embassy and the lawyer of the Chinese nationals who were arrested during the operation.
'Para hindi nila ma-tamper, whatever evidence, buwagin muna 'yan, imbestigahan agad ng IAD at let us see,' he said.
(So that they won't be able to tamper with whatever evidence, dismantle that first, immediately investigate through the IAD, and let us see.)
However, he clarified that this is only temporary.
'Habang nag-iisip ako ng kung sino ang karapatdapat na maligay diyan at susunod sa aking guidance, in the meantime, wala muna akong STF,' he said.
(While I am thinking about who should be appointed who will follow my guidance, in the meantime, there will be no STF.)
Santiago said the operation was for a resort allegedly involved in love scams and Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators.
However, he said that the address provided by the agents to the court in requesting for a search warrant was incorrect.
'Nagkamali lang daw sila sa address ganoon, error lang daw, meron naman daw sila sketch. Aba, hindi. Kung ganyan, ako judge ako bago ko magbigay ng search warrant ay tinitiyak ko muna na tama ang lugar na inyong ise-search,' he said.
(They said they just made a mistake with the address, just an error, they said they had a sketch. Well, no. If that's the case, if I were the judge, before I issue a search warrant, I would make sure first that the place you're going to search is correct.)
'Parang ganoon eh, minslead nila 'yung court. 'Yung court naman nagbigay ng search warrant na mali naman pala 'yung address,' he said.
(It seems to be like that, they misled the court. Then the court issued a search warrant, but it turns out the address was wrong.)
He said that no complaints have been filed as the agents are still under investigation. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Two Chinese nationals in California accused of illegally shipping Nvidia AI chips to China
Two Chinese nationals were arrested in California and charged with illegally shipping tens of millions of dollars' worth of AI chips to China, including Nvidia H100s, the U.S. Justice Department said Tuesday. Chuan Geng, 28, of Pasadena, and Shiwei Yang, 28, of El Monte, exported the advanced Nvidia chips and other technology to China from October 2022 through July 2025 without obtaining the required licenses from the U.S. Commerce Department, a criminal complaint says. According to the complaint, Geng and Yang's El Monte-based company, ALX Solutions Inc, was founded in 2022, shortly after the U.S. imposed sweeping export controls on technology to China and began to require licenses for the chips. A spokesperson for Nvidia declined to comment. —Reuters

8 Filipinos rescued, 20 Chinese nabbed in suspected scam hubs in Pampanga
Eight Filipinos were rescued while 20 Chinese nationals were arrested in alleged scam hubs during two separate operations conducted at Clark Freeport Zone in Angeles City, Pampanga. Authorities first raided a compound of two villas where 17 Chinese nationals were nabbed, according to a report of GMA Integrated News' Bam Alegre on Unang Balita on Tuesday. Several equipment such as laptops and mobile phones were confiscated and are set to undergo digital forensic examination to gather more information on the operation of the suspects. Based on the chats seen on a computer, the suspects seemed to be running a love scam. Eight Filipinos were rescued in the operation. According to them, they are working inside the suspected scam hub for over eight hours in a day. 'May friend po na nagyayaya lang po. Maghahanap po ng client. 'Yun po, inaaral po namin kasi one week pa lang po kami rito,' one of the rescued Pinoys said. (There was a friend who was just inviting us. We are looking for a client. We are just studying it because we have only been here for a week.) 'Bago lang po talaga ako rito. Kakadating lang po namin kahapon. May inaantay po kaming tao. Hindi po namin alam basta ang sabi po mag-antay lang po kami dito,' another rescued Filipina said. (I am really new here. We just arrived yesterday. We are waiting for someone we don't know. They just said to wait here.) The 17 arrested Chinese nationals were not able to give a statement due to language barrier. Another residential property near the villas was also raided where three Chinese nationals were arrested due to alleged online fraud. The suspects were brought to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City. Authorities are checking if these two suspected scam operations were connected. Clark Development Corporation vice president for security Retired Major General Lina Sarmiento said, 'Dito sa loob ng Clark Freeport Zone since 2023, ipinagbawal na ng Clark Development Corporation ang anumang gawain na may kinalaman sa POGO. So napakaimportante nito dahil talagang nililinis na natin 'yung ating bakuran dito.' (Here within the Clark Freeport Zone since 2023, the Clark Development Corporation has banned any activity related to POGOs. This [raid] is very important because we are really cleaning up our yard here.) The raids were led by the Bureau of Immigration, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Clark Development Corporation. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA Integrated News
