MLB Execs Defend Red Sox After Wild Rafael Devers Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
A large portion of the MLB world was stunned by the Boston Red Sox deciding to trade away their superstar designated hitter, Rafael Devers, to the San Francisco Giants. The move drew considerable scrutiny from Red Sox fans and fans around baseball.

But, despite the major questions sent Boston's way, there were a significant number of MLB executives around baseball who defended and understood the Red Sox's decision to ship Devers to San Francisco.
According to an article from Mark Feinsand on MLB.com, rival executives around baseball defended Craig Breslow's decision to trade away Devers. They also defended the return Boston received, which was another major point of contention for the Red Sox fan base.
"'On the Surface,' Feinsand reports. "It feels like a relationship gone bad that was mismanaged from the beginning,' an AL exec said. 'This is probably a welcome outcome.'"
Calling the trade of Devers a "welcome outcome" doesn't account for the fanbase's reaction, as the move was out of nowhere right after a key sweep of the New York Yankees to get back into a Wild Card spot, and back above .500.

Another executive shared his thoughts on the return package for Devers, which had been highly questioned. Feinsand reported that one executive said, "'It's a pretty good return considering that Boston didn't have many options,' and an AL executive said... 'I was surprised they got real talent back while moving all of that money.'"

The major talking point for this deal has been the Red Sox shedding the entirety of Devers' contract. While getting out of that deal is nice, the result is still that the Red Sox will no longer have Devers in the lineup.
There are plenty of other comments that Feinsand includes in his story. From executives making propositions to acquire other stars with the freed-up money, to concern over how much Devers is owed when he's effectively a full-time designated hitter.
But, from the fan's perspective, losing a fan favorite like Devers will always sting. It's even worse when the return doesn't match what the fan base was looking for if that star player was traded.
Breslow and the Red Sox are entering a time in the franchise's history with a lot of turnover. From the young prospects getting the call to the big leagues, to veterans like Devers being sent out, the Red Sox are beginning to restructure their MLB roster.

Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow, Blake Treinen take steps toward injury returns

The post Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow, Blake Treinen take steps toward injury returns appeared first on ClutchPoints. There's now two ways about it: the Los Angeles Dodgers need pitchers. Entering the offseason with a reworked rotation so deep some thought Dave Roberts might go with a six-man rotation, the Dodgers have watched big name after big name go on IL over the past few months, with Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki, Tyler Glasnow, Blake Treinen, and about a dozen other players landing on the injured list. Advertisement And yet, after watching players like Kirby Yates return to the mound for some much-needed relief, Dodgers faithful landed some more good news on Friday from The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, with two of LA's big-named arms returning to the mound for throwing sessions. 'It appears Tyler Glasnow is getting set to face some hitters. Would be his first time doing so since landing on the IL,' Ardaya wrote. 'Tyler Glasnow threw one simulated inning. Blake Treinen is now throwing a bullpen session. First time we've seen him do that since going on the IL.' Now, for fans in the know, the Dodgers' bullpen sessions have become increasingly interesting over the past few weeks, with Shohei Ohtani throwing his own simulated innings while Snell also tries to work back from his shoulder injury. Considering the Dodgers are already settling for bullpen games against rivals like the San Diego Padres, with just three expected starting pitchers, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dustin May, and Clayton Kershaw regularly available to play, getting a top starting option or a premier high-leverage arm could help the team considerably. Advertisement Will the Dodgers ever actually get to deploy the pitching rotation they hoped for on opening day, with Yamamoto, Snell, Glasnow, Sasaki, Kershaw, and May all throwing deep alongside two-way star Ohtani? Only time will tell, but considering how often the Dodgers have been linked to starting pitchers before the trade deadline, it's clear the team's initial plans may not be as foolproof as he might have hoped. Dodgers receive pitching help after Angels big move

The post Dodgers receive pitching help after Angels big move appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Dodgers made a quiet but meaningful move to bolster their pitching depth, reclaiming left-handed pitcher Garrett McDaniels after a recent Los Angeles Angels roster move. The 25-year-old was designated for assignment earlier this week and returned to the Dodger Blue under MLB Rule 5 Draft rules — a process that requires a team to offer back a Rule 5 selection if they can't keep him on the active roster. Advertisement The Angels' big move came on Friday when they promoted top infield prospect Christian Moore ahead of their series against the Orioles. Moore, 22, made his MLB debut by starting at second base and hitting ninth in the lineup. His promotion forced a roster crunch, leading to McDaniels being DFA'd. The former Tennessee slugger — who set a school record with 34 home runs last year — had been tearing up the minors with a .279 average, 5 homers, and a .796 OPS across Double-A and Triple-A. According to a post from The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya on X, formerly known as Twitter, McDaniels was officially returned to the Dodgers on June 14 after clearing waivers. 'The Angels returned LHP Garrett McDaniels to the Dodgers. They'd selected him in the Rule 5 draft but he was DFA'd recently.' McDaniels, who originally signed with the Dodgers in 2022, had a difficult time adjusting to MLB hitters in his short stint with the Angels. In 10.2 innings across 10 appearances, he posted a 5.91 ERA with 8 walks and 6 strikeouts. His 74.3% ground ball rate stands out, but his control issues limited his reliability out of the bullpen. Despite the struggles, McDaniels remains an intriguing long-term arm. The Dodgers pitching depth has been tested this year, and while McDaniels won't slot in immediately, his return gives the team a controllable left-hander who can be refined in the minors. With veterans like Clayton Kershaw healthy again and prospects like Justin Wrobleski emerging, McDaniels can now work without pressure — or eventually become part of a trade package as the deadline nears. Advertisement The Angels' aggressive push with Moore cost them a Rule 5 project. The Dodgers were more than happy to scoop him back up.
