Gary Neville's net worth and business empire despite Soccer Aid ace's £3.2m blow

Daily Mirror13 hours ago

Gary Neville is known for his football career and his time on Sky Sports, but the Manchester United legend has also built a tidy business empire for himself and his family
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has forged a career as a successful businessman after hanging up his boots at Old Trafford. Neville, 50, dramatically called time on his football career in February 2011, walking away in the middle of the 2010-11 campaign.
He left the sport after clinching two Champions League titles, eight Premier Leagues, four FA Cups and three League Cups. Now, he's set to return to the Old Trafford pitch for Soccer Aid this Sunday.

Nowadays, he is likely best known for being one of Sky Sports ' most influential commentators and pundits, featuring both in the gantry and in the studio. But Neville's skills stretch beyond the work he does in the media.

His business acumen has proven as sharp as his defending, as evidenced by his colossal net worth. Finance Monthly estimates Neville's net worth to be between £70-£100million, despite a significant financial setback reported in 2022.
Financial records for 'Hotel Football ', which is located opposite Old Trafford and co-owned by Neville along with Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, revealed losses of £3.2m over 2020 and 2021. The company also received a loan of £10.2m from parent company 'Orchid Leisure' during that period.
In October 2024, City AM reported the hotel lost £630,158 in 2022 and £601,030 in 2023. However, there were signs of recovery as the hotel's turnover increased from £6.4m to £7.8m during that time. Despite its losses, it still carries a valuation of around £20-£30m, according to FM.
In addition to Hotel Football, he also owns the Stock Exchange Hotel in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester. This was entirely hired out by Madonna in 2023 when she performed in the city. Despite experiencing losses over the years, FM estimates its value at around £15-£20m.
The former England star might not be pleased with the losses, but his extensive business empire provides ample cushioning. Companies House records show that Neville's hotel business has approximately £20m in assets. His property development company is also believed to hold assets worth £10.5m.

When all of his other businesses are taken into account, it's reported that he has combined assets of £40m. Among these is his production company Buzz 16, which produces sports content including 'The Overlap' on YouTube, home to his popular podcast 'Stick to Football'.
Like many investors, Neville has also ventured into the real estate industry as another income source. He owns a luxury home in Bolton, Greater Manchester, which has undergone significant renovations since he purchased it in the early 2000s.

He has also teamed up with Betfred CEO Fred Done to co-found St Michael's Propco 2. The pair are playing a significant role in the ambitious £400m St. Michael's project, a development in the heart of Manchester City centre, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The venture includes a nine-floor office, a rooftop restaurant and two food and drink outlets on the ground floor. A towering 41-storey building will also be part of the project, housing a 162-bed five-star hotel, 75,000 square feet of office space and 217 apartments.
Neville, who is listed as a director of 56 different businesses according to the Times, claims he has started eight different businesses from scratch himself. In addition to his business ventures, Neville reportedly earns around £1m per year working for Sky Sports.

Neville is also one of the owners of League Two side Salford City. The club recently announced a new ownership group, led by Neville, David Beckham, US businessman Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies.
He first bought the club in 2014 alongside Class of 92 team-mates Phil Neville, Giggs, Scholes and Butt, who held a combined 50% of the club, while Singaporean businessman Peter Lim held the rest. However, the new takeover means Lim and his ex-United colleagues are no longer shareholders. The latter quartet will reportedly maintain some roles they had at the club, going into the new era.

He might not be out the game for long though. Reports claim the former Gers number two is closing in on the Westerlo job. David Van der Broeck, a Belgian journalist claims he is favourite to succeed current boss Timmy Simons. He said on X, in response to Rangers' statement: "He is free to sign for Westerlo, where he is the favourite to succeed Timmy Simons as head coach." Charai left Rangers full of thanks for the club. Brentford in advanced talks with Keith Andrews to replace Thomas Frank as new manager

Brentford are in advanced talks with Keith Andrews to replace Thomas Frank as manager. Frank was appointed as Tottenham Hotspur manager, leaving the Bees to search for a new coach and Andrews, who has been working at the club as a set-piece coach since 2024. Andrews is well-regarded at the club and the Independent understands he is now searching for coaches to join his staff in the Premier League next season. Should Andrews be confirmed as the new manager, it would follow a pattern at the club of promoting from within, with Frank succeeding Dean Smith after operating as his assistant. The former Wolves, MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers midfielder thrived as a pundit for Sky Sports on EFL games before opting to work within Frank's structure at Brentford last season. Frank left Brentford after seven years, with Brentford considering a number of options, including Kieran McKenna after Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League. But Brentford believe the 39-year-old has bigger aspirations within the Premier League and have now moved for Andrews as the probable successor to Frank. Francesco Farioli, Kjetil Knutsen and Edin Terzic were also linked with the job, but Andrews appears set for his first managerial role of his career.

Emiliano Martinez responds to Man Utd transfer approach

Manchester United have begun talks to sign Emiliano Martinez and the Aston Villa goalkeeper has indicated that he is keen on a move to Old Trafford, according to reports in Argentina. United are believed to be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window after Andre Onana made several high-profile errors this season. Onana, who United signed in a £47 million deal from Inter two years ago, has also refused to rule out the possibility of leaving Old Trafford during an interview in Burkina Faso on Thursday. When asked if he will be staying at United, Onana replied with a smile: 'Will I leave? I don't know, we will see.' Martinez, meanwhile, has just finished his fifth season with Villa after he joined in a £20m deal from Arsenal in September 2020. The World Cup winner appeared to wave farewell to supporters in his final game at Villa Park last month and had tears in his eyes during his lap around the pitch with his teammates. Martinez has already received interest from the Saudi Pro League, however, it's understood that the 32-year-old wants to remain in Europe. According to ESPN Argentina, United have now opened talks with Martinez and the goalkeeper is open to joining Ruben Amorim's side this summer. Speaking to ESPN Argentina, journalist Leo Paradizo said: 'Talks have already begun, contacts so that Martinez can join Manchester United. 'Of all the possibilities that he has in his immediate future, Manchester United is the one that excites him the most. More Trending 'The clubs are going to take their time, but yes, I can confirm that the contact between Manchester United and Martinez have already started.' Elsewhere, Viktor Gyokeres has turned down a move to United with the Sporting CP striker privately making it clear that Arsenal are his first-choice destination. Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, met with his Sporting counterpartto discuss a deal this week but an initial approach worth an €55m (£46.8m) plus a further €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons was turned down by the Portuguese club. United, who were also rejected by Liam Delap earlier this month, could now follow up their initial interest in Napoli's Victor Osimhen or Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
