Malaysia hosts global anti-corruption course to strengthen international cooperation
Organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) in collaboration with the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the course brought together 17 senior officers from Southeast Asia, Central Asia, South Asia, and Africa.
Held from July 13 to 25, the course aimed to strengthen institutional capacity, expand strategic cooperation networks, and reinforce Malaysia's commitment to promoting integrity and good governance at the international level.
The course focused on strategic management methods to combat corruption, addressing contemporary issues such as intelligence-based investigations, digital forensics, cross-border asset recovery, cryptocurrency-related crimes, and strategic crisis communication management.
"The modules were delivered by a panel of experts and seasoned practitioners within Malaysia's anti-corruption ecosystem.
"They were also designed to provide participants with practical approaches applicable within their respective national contexts.
"The organisation of this programme underscores Malaysia's role as a leader in development diplomacy and anti-corruption education globally," MACA said in a press statement on Monday (July 28).
Held under the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), the course was named the Executive Certificate Course for Strategic Management of Anti-Corruption Programme 2025.
Among the participants was Zambia Police Service senior superintendent and assistant public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi, who praised the programme for its specialised organisational structure and use of scientific techniques such as forensic tools.
"This programme was both enlightening and impactful, with the module on asset recovery and the role of the media in corruption prevention being highly valuable.
"I would strongly encourage my colleagues to join this training, as corruption today is a transnational crime that requires modern tools and strategies," he said in the press statement.
Also participating in the course was Bangladesh Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director of operations Silvia Ferdous, among others.

GOF foils smuggling bid, arrest undocumented migrants
KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) stopped two human smuggling attempts in Kelantan over two days, arresting several undocumented migrants and two suspected tekong darat (name given by locals to those harbouring illegal immigrants). GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the operations, which began on Sunday, were part of Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan. He said the Seventh Battalion detained a vehicle at a roadblock in Chabang Empat Salam, Rantau Panjang, around 3pm Sunday, on suspicion of transporting undocumented migrants. "Upon inspection, (they) found three men and two women from Myanmar, all without valid identification. "The 38-year-old local driver was arrested under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (ATIPSOM), while the five Myanmar nationals were held under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said. He said the driver also tested positive for methamphetamine. In a separate raid just after midnight on Monday, GOF personnel stormed a house in Kampung Slow Machang, Pasir Mas. "The raid followed intelligence on smuggling activities. "A 50-year-old local man, believed to be the tekong darat, tried to flee but was swiftly apprehended. Officers also found two men and two women from Myanmar, all undocumented and believed to have entered Malaysia illegally. The team also seized 14 Yaba pills hidden in a cigarette box belonging to the suspect. All undocumented migrants were held under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act, while the suspected smugglers were arrested under Section 26J of the ATIPSOM Act and Sections 12(2) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He said the GOF remains committed to tackling cross-border crimes, especially human trafficking and drug-related offences.

Cambodia's Information ministry appeals for public to cease social media attacks on foreign leaders

The request was issued Tuesday (July 29), following a noticeable rise in edited images, inflammatory content and inappropriate commentary circulating online. These actions have caused insults affecting the honour and dignity of individuals, including politicians and members of royalty. The ministry urged all social media users to conduct themselves with integrity, responsibility and respect, and to adhere to ethical standards of public discourse. It stressed that its goal is to maintain public order and uphold peaceful online environments, free from incitement, hate speech, racism or ethnically charged rhetoric. The statement advised the public to avoid sharing or producing unverified information that could lead to confusion, anger, violence, hatred or racial discrimination. It also called on journalists, content creators and the public to verify information with official sources — particularly on sensitive issues such as the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict — before sharing it. Additionally, it asked people to refrain from posting doctored images or false content that could be viewed as defamatory, especially toward royal institutions. The ministry concluded by praising responsible media professionals and users who have contributed positively to Cambodia's messaging, helping uphold accuracy and diplomacy in addressing the conflict. Cops nabbed over alleged RM110,000 bribe to shield drug activities
Pahang MACC director Shukor Mahmud confirmed the arrests of four men when contacted. PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Pahang has arrested two senior police officers and a retired officer for allegedly soliciting and receiving RM110,000 in bribes to protect drug and ketum distribution activities in the state. Bernama reported that a source said the three men were arrested at around 8.30pm yesterday after arriving at MACC's Temerloh branch to provide statements. A fourth suspect was arrested earlier. MACC believes all four colluded in the illegal activity from 2022 to 2024. 'One of the suspects is believed to have received monthly bribes amounting to between RM4,000 and RM5,000 through bank transfers into his personal account, which he then distributed to others,' the source said. One of the suspects had been released on MACC bail after his statement was recorded. The remaining three are currently under a seven-day remand order until Aug 4. Pahang MACC director Shukor Mahmud confirmed the arrests when contacted.
