NEW DELHI: Adani Power secured a contract to supply 1,500 megawatts (MW) of electricity to Uttar Pradesh at a tariff of Rs 5.383 per unit (kWh) for a period of 25 years, announced UP's energy minister AK Sharma."We decided to purchase a total of 1500 MW (ex-bus) power from a 2x800 MW (1600 MW) thermal power project based on competitive bidding. Under this, seven companies came forward and participated in the bidding processes. Adani Power Ltd has won a contract to supply 1500 megawatts from a thermal power plant in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh at Rs. 5.383 per unit," AK Sharma told reporters in Lucknow, as quoted by news agency ANI.The deal, finalised through a competitive bidding process, involves power supply from a 2x800 MW (1,600 MW) thermal power project to be established within the state. The Uttar Pradesh cabinet, in a meeting chaired by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday, approved the proposal to procure power from the upcoming facility. The move is part of the state's long-term strategy to meet its growing energy needs and ensure future energy security.According to A K Sharma, the state is expected to require an additional 10,795 MW of thermal power by 2033–34. The procurement of 1,500 MW through this agreement is a key step in fulfilling that projected demand. The tender, issued in October last year, invited bids for power procurement from the planned thermal project. Adani Power emerged as the lowest bidder, quoting a fixed charge of Rs 3.727 per unit and a fuel charge of Rs 1.656 per unit, bringing the total tariff to Rs 5.383 per unit. Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) will be signed between UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) and Adani Power under the terms of the long-term bid. The electricity supply will originate from the new thermal facility that the company will set up in Uttar Pradesh.Adani Power Limited, on April 30, had disclosed its power generation figures, reaching 102.2 billion units during financial year 2024-25, showing an increase of 19.5 per cent compared to 85.5 BU in 2023-24, as revealed in their Wednesday earnings report. The company's data indicated that their consolidated power sales volume reached 95.9 BU in 2024-25, marking a 20.7 per cent increase from 79.4 BU in 2023-24, attributed to increased power requirements and enhanced operational capacity. The consolidated continuing total revenue showed growth of 10.8 per cent, amounting to Rs 56,473 crore in 2024-25 compared to Rs 50,960 crore in 2023-24, driven by increased sales volumes, despite being partially offset by reduced tariff realisation.

Punjab govt working for wellbeing of underprivileged sections, says CM Mann at loan waiver event
'For the first time in the history of Punjab, this reprieve is being extended to the underprivileged and weaker sections of society,' Mann said. Addressing a gathering after handing over loan waiver certificates to the beneficiaries here, Mann said the previous governments in the state waived loans of the affluent people but didn't bother about the welfare of the poor. Amritsar, Jun 8 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday said his government is working untiringly for the wellbeing of the state's weaker and underprivileged sections. The loan waiver scheme worth Rs 67.84 crore has benefited around 4,800 families of loanees of the Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation (PSCFC), the chief minister said. On June 3, the Punjab Cabinet gave its nod to waive loans amounting to Rs 67.84 crore taken by over 4,000 Dalit families from the PSCFC. Mann said the waiver covers all loans disbursed by the PSCFC up to March 31, 2020, offering significant relief to SC and Divyangjan (persons with disabilities) loanees. The move will benefit 4,727 loanees for an aggregate amount of Rs 67.84 crore. The scheme will cover all the loanees, including 4,685 defaulting loanees and 42 regular loanees, government sources said. Addressing the gathering, Mann said 'no due certificates' (NDCs) will be issued by the state government and the full amount of Rs 67.84 crore comprising principal, interest and penal interest calculated as of April 30, 2025, will be reimbursed to the PSCFC by the state government. The loanees who previously availed benefits under the earlier waiver schemes are also eligible for coverage under this initiative, Mann said. No recovery proceedings will be initiated against the loanees and their accounts will be considered fully settled as of the cut-off date, he added. According to the 2011 Census, Scheduled Castes constitute 31.94 per cent of Punjab's total population and many members of this community have availed loans from the PSCFC to set up self-employment ventures aimed at economic upliftment. However, Mann said some borrowers were unable to repay their loans due to circumstances beyond their control, leading to defaults. These families could not repay their loans due to circumstances such as demise of the main earning member, prolonged illness, or having no other source of income, etc. Recovering these loans from such people was unjust, so the state government has decided to waive them, the chief minister said. Summer veggie rates soar with temp; brinjal, capsicum touch 100-mark
1 2 3 Kolkata: After weeks of stable supply and reasonable pricing, vegetable prices in Kolkata are witnessing a sudden surge due to extreme heat and inadequate pre-monsoon rainfall. Traders and consumers alike are reporting a sharp increase in the cost of summer vegetables, with some items now selling at nearly double their previous prices. The impact of erratic weather is being felt across the supply chain — from farms to retail markets. "The quality of vegetables has deteriorated. The produce is smaller, less fresh, and spoils quickly, making it hard to store. So, vendors are lowering their uptake," said Kamal De, president of the West Bengal Vendors' Association. According to traders, scarce rainfall and persistent heat waves have disrupted cultivation, especially of heat-sensitive crops like brinjal (eggplant), tomato, bitter gourd, and drumsticks (sajna data). Many farmers are unable to maintain older brinjal plants during this season, resulting in lower output. In retail markets across Kolkata—including Lake Market, Behala, Gariahat, and Hatibagan—shoppers are complaining of inflated rates and variable pricing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esta nueva alarma con cámara es casi regalada en Tandil (ver precio) Verisure Undo "We had a good run of steady prices, but now things are changing fast. If this trend continues, it'll be a long-term worry," said Gaurab Das, a resident of Behala. In many markets, brinjal is selling at Rs 120 per kg even for standard quality, while higher-grade varieties are reaching Rs 150 per kg. At Lake Market, trader Subal Saha confirmed: "Prices have gone up slightly for most vegetables, but brinjal is especially short in supply. We are selling it at Rs 120 per kg for decent quality. Rates vary widely across markets." Agricultural experts say low rainfall and heat stress are key culprits. "From June to mid-Sept, brinjal output drops by as much as 70–80% as old plants are uprooted and fresh ones take time to yield," a source in the horticulture department said. Farmers rely heavily on timely rains for vegetable farming, especially in districts supplying Kolkata like Hooghly, Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas. With pre-monsoon showers falling short, crops like brinjal, bitter gourd, and tomato have been badly hit. If the monsoon doesn't arrive on time and in sufficient volume, prices could remain elevated or climb further. Both wholesalers and vendors are urging the govt to explore early interventions such as improving irrigation support and protecting standing crops from heat damage. For now, Kolkata's vegetable shoppers may have to brace for a long summer of high prices and limited choices on their dinner tables.
