Meghan Markle launches ‘thoughtful' collection of wines
A press release on Tuesday described the first wine to become available as 'a light, fresh, and effortlessly celebratory 2023 Napa Valley Rosé, thoughtfully curated by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex'.
'This debut rosé marks the beginning of As Ever's thoughtful expansion into wine, with a Méthode Champenoise Napa Valley sparkling wine planned for the near future and additional varietals to follow,' it said.
Meghan's team also set the stage for where the wine might be best consumed: 'Designed for summer's best moments – from lunches that turn into dinners and sun-drenched weekends where the only thing louder than the music is the laughter.'
The manufacturer, Fairwinds Estate in Napa valley, located six hours drive from the Montecito home Markle shares with Prince Harry, also makes wine for Barry Manilow, the estate of John Wayne and the TV series Yellowstone.
Other celebrities who have also put their names to wine in recent years include Cameron Diaz (Avaline), director Francis Ford Coppola, Post Malone ( Maison No 9) and the ever-entrepreneurial Snoop Dogg, with 19 Crimes Cali Red.
Some celebrities have done well with alcohol ventures, including Brad Pitt, whose Miravel rosé brand is valued at around $200m, and George Clooney's Casa Amigos tequila brand, established in 2103 and sold for $1bn four years later.
The bespoke or craft wine business is rapidly growing. Estimated at $35bn globally in 2019, it is projected to reach almost $49bn by 2027.
Meghan's growing list of As Ever products includes a crepe mix, a shortbread mix with flower sprinkles, apricot spread in 'keepsake packaging', a limited edition orange blossom honey, and various teas. All products on As Ever's website were sold out as of Tuesday morning, along with the reassuring message to consumers: 'More coming soon.'

A famous Las Vegas casino is set to end 24/7 operations and will only be open for special occasions. Buffalo Bill's in Primm, located about 40 minutes south of Vegas, opened in 1994. It included more than 1,700 slot machines at one point and was home attractions such as its Desperado roller coaster and the car in which famed criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were killed, KSNV reported. But after nearly three decades in business, the casino will close, only opening for concerts and special events, according to a statement shared on X Tuesday night by Primm Valley Resort & Casino. Buffalo Bill's and Primm Valley Resort & Casino are both owned by Affinity Gaming. 'In order to deliver the best possible experience for today's guest expectations, Buffalo Bill's will be shifting its 24/7 operations to Primm Valley Resort & Casino,' the online statement said. 'We invite our guests to join us at Primm Valley where they will find the newest slots on our redesigned casino floor, beautifully appointed rooms, oasis pool experience, and wonderful dining!' The casino made clear Buffalo Bill's attached venue, Star of the Desert Arena, will remain open. 'We will be announcing an incredible fall show lineup at the Star of the Desert Arena soon,' the statement read. Buffalo Bill's had temporarily closed in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Los Angeles Times reported. It reopened in December 2022 with some renovations, including new gaming machines and carpeting on the casino floor, KVVU reported at the time. The renovations still didn't attract enough customers. The LA Times reported that all hotels in Primm have struggled with tourism. Affinity Gaming also owns Whiskey Pete's Casino in Primm, which was temporarily shut down in December 2024. At the time, Affinity Gaming said its decision was made to 'feature new and ongoing investments at Primm Resorts and Buffalo Bills,' KSNV previously reported. Whiskey Pete's Truck Stop remains open, according to the local outlet.

Superman premiere: What would superhero make of the world today?
Superman was the first superhero, created 87 years ago. He's appeared in numerous books and films over the years and now he's been rebooted again as James Gunn introduces the first film in the relaunched DC film has been hotly anticipated and a lot is riding on it - superhero films in recent years have been met with mixed reviews from critics and fans. Playing the Man of Steel is 31-year-old American actor David Corenswet. Corenswet, who has previously appeared in TV series The Politician, Hollywood and We Own This City, is the fourth person to play the role in a major Superman movie, and the first for a decade. His version of the hero is far cheerier and more optimistic that other iterations, particularly compared to Henry Cavill's portrayal of him which was grittier and darker. The film will kick-start a new era for DC Studios, which writer-director Gunn and producer Peter Safran took over in who appeared in 2013's Man of Steel and its spin-offs, announced in 2022 that he would return to the role - but Gunn and Safran decided to replace him after they took over DC. As a hero whose message is of hope and justice, I ask Corenswet what Superman would make of the world today."He'd probably like to see more kindness," he says. "He's a figure who is willing to take on responsibility and has joy in doing that and I think he would like to inspire others in the world today to take on more responsibility."Rachel Brosnahan, who is best known for playing Midge Maisel in The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, plays Lois Lane and tells me that Superman would want to "step in and help whenever and wherever he could." "He sees people and things in need and steps in when you need him without questions," she says. Nicholas Hoult, who plays infamous villain Lex Luthor, adds that the superhero would want to "see more goodness in the world". The 31-year-old actor who recently starred in Nosferatu and Juror #2 feels confident that this version of Superman will buck the trend of failed reboots. "Gunn's version is a lot of fun and celebrates what it is to be human," he says He explains that he doesn't think superhero fatigue has set in but it's important to "have good storytelling and create characters that people are inspired by". DC has struggled to find major hits in recent years, with films like Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman 1984 and Joker: Folie à Deux - part of the wider DC stable - each earning less than $60m (£48m) at the North American box in Hollywood, Sony's latest phase of superhero films ended with a flop when Kraven the Hunter opened with takings of just $11m (£9m) last originally auditioned for the role of Superman but said after reading the script he thought Lex was a better fit. "When Gunn called me to offer me the role of Lex I chuckled because his instincts were right." Speaking to fans at the premiere, many were excited to see more screen time being given to the relationship between Superman and his love interest, Lois Lane. Brosnahan says she's excited for fans to see their relationship develop and the film "really humanises both of them". "What's great about this film is that it's not an origin story so we get to go deeper into the relationships and I think Lois and Superman realise they have met their match in each other."Other characters in the film include Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Rex Mason/Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Michael Holt/Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi). As the first film in the new DC Universe, there's a lot riding on will likely set the tone for how other films such as Supergirl and Clayface that are set to be released in 2026 will be box office prediction is high for Gunn's film and on 11 July, when the film is released, we'll find out if those predictions are correct.
