The most surprising guests at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez' wedding

Cosmopolitan19 hours ago

Fresh from her brief and much ridiculed trip to space, former reporter Lauren Sánchez is preparing to marry Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, in what will no doubt be an extravagant affair in Venice this week (actual date unconfirmed but the event is spanning a few days).
Despite not having happened yet, the wedding has sparked protests in the Italian city from disgruntled residents who are calling on Bezos' company to pay its fair share of tax. Earlier this year, Italian prosecutors launched an investigation into Amazon over an alleged unpaid €1.2bn (just over £1bn) tax evasion case.
Amazon declined to comment on "ongoing investigations" and is contesting the claim. Last year, the company paid corporation tax in the UK for the first time in four years.
Protest group, No Space for Bezos, told press, "He is basically going to treat the whole city as a private ballroom, as a private event area, as if the citizens are not there."
In response, the wedding planning company behind the event, Lanza and Baucina, who also planned George and Amal Clooney's big day, issued a statement to media disputing the accusations, saying, "From the outset, instructions from our client and our own guiding principles were abundantly clear: the minimising of any disruption to the city."
The wedding itself is predicted to cost $10m (£7.3m) and unsurprisingly, the guest list is set to be full of notable names, protests or otherwise, with attendee predictions ranging from Orlando Bloom (which has allegedly upset his wife, Katy Perry, who joined Sánchez on the 'self-indulgent' space trip but who apparently can't make the big day) to members of the Kardashian family and possibly even President Donald Trump.
Here's what we know about the Bez0s-Sánchez guest list so far.
It's predicted that Kim and possibly her mother, Kris Jenner, will attend the wedding in Venice, after the pair were both seen celebrating with Sánchez at her bachelorette party in Paris. Famously, the Kardashians love an Italian wedding too (see: Kourtney and Travis getting hitched in Portofino in 2022) so this would check out.
Kardashian, Jenner and fellow sibling/daughter Khloe Kardashian, along with North West and Penelope Disick, were pictured together at a Beyoncé concert earlier this year too, so maybe the kids and Koko will also join in the fun.
Another attendee of Sánchez's lavish hen party and friend of 20-plus years, it's fair to say the Desperate Housewives star is likely to make an appearance on the main day.
Sánchez and Longoria were spotted at a Cannes event together in May and Longoria once told the Hollywood Reporter (during a joint interview with Sánchez), "[We] constantly have these conversations that inspire each other. Instead of sending each other memes, we send [reports] about the Latin community not being represented in TV and movies and the media."
It's reported that Perry can't make the wedding but her partner, Orlando Bloom, is gearing up to attend, despite having reportedly not approved of the Blue Origin space trip led by Sánchez, with Perry on board as 'crew'. Neither have commented on these stories though, so perhaps they'll both turn up. Drama? What drama!
Luca Zaia, President of Veneto (an area of Italy that includes Venice), hinted the President of the United States could even attend the wedding, when defending the couple from accusations that their event is disrespecting the local community.
"This is a city that handles 150,000 people a day. George Clooney, François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek, Alexandre Arnault, Elton John and many others got married here," he shared. "Of course, Donald Trump [who will be in Europe for the NATO summit] could also come to this wedding."
Given Bezos and Sánchez were both front and centre at Trump's inauguration ceremony earlier this year, it's not a totally far-fetched suggestion (but equally Trump is very much in the thick of the worrisome Iran-Israel conflict right now).
The Rolling Stones legend is reportedly attending, as per the Associated Press. Bezos and Sánchez were spotted chatting to Jagger and his ballet dancer and author partner, Melanie Hamrick, at the Vanity Fair Oscar party.
The famed fashion designer was spotted arriving in Venice today via the Venice Marco Polo airport. Could this be a hint at who the bride will be wearing?

Pyjamas and a more gentle approach: Here's what we saw at the menswear shows in Milan

The feeling of unease is one of the hallmarks of our times, with cost of living increases and geopolitical conflicts contributing to a sense of disquietude. Within fashion, there is just as much uncertainty amid the ever-changing roster of designers at major luxury houses and a challenging retail climate. That mood was reflected at the Spring-Summer 2026 menswear shows in Milan, where the collections were generally a mixed bag. But one thing several designers agreed on was the need for compassion.'The most important thing for us was a change of tone: an invitation to embrace gentleness,' Prada co-creative director Miuccia Prada told journalists after the show. That sentiment was echoed by Italian entrepreneur Brunello Cucinelli. 'We need to find elegance, gentleness and embrace the art of listening to one another,' he told CNN at his presentation. With introspection seemingly top of Prada's mind, the namesake designer and the brand's co-creative director Raf Simons sought to offer a calm and gentle respite to the troubled world. 'Basically, the opposite of aggression, power, nastiness, which seems to not interest me right now,' Prada told reporters backstage. The show, which was attended by the likes of Harris Dickinson, Riz Ahmed and Benedict Cumberbatch, featured dishevelled suiting, tiny shorts, hut-shaped intrecciato hats and striped tracksuits. At Dolce & Gabbana, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana continued their exploration of heritage and Italian elegance, with a star-studded front row that included newly appointed brand ambassador Theo James. On the runway, models wore loungewear and versatile, slouchy separates, trousers with pleats and wide hems, oversized stripes across shirts and jackets (at times they mimicked pajamas), and leather pieces inspired by the 1980s. Elsewhere, Brunello Cucinelli took a relaxed approach, offering classic, sometimes bold-colored, separates, inspired by the early '90s — viewed by some as a simpler time. 'The jacket is a bit shorter, while trousers are a bit higher and softer,' the eponymous designer told CNN. There was also a new capsule collection of cocktail evening-wear featuring jackets with satin-free shawl lapels, which were paired with silk-cotton knits. The look of Italian fashion has evolved in recent years towards greater simplicity, sartorial rigor and a focus on form. The latter is key to Milan-based independent label Setchu, where its Japanese founder Satoshi Kuwata presented another collection of pragmatic and modular pieces. Inspired by the designer's fishing adventures in Zimbabwe, standout looks — such as garment bags turned into dresses, denim pants worn as skirts, shrunken blazers with peak lapels and straw hemlines — combined playfulness with functionality. Nobody captures easy elegance better than Giorgio Armani. For the Italian label's latest collection, there was a shift towards greater fluidity, marking a departure of sorts from their typical suiting. Double-breasted jackets with shawl collars were shortened, while trousers either tapered at the ankle or hung loosely towards the floor. However, Armani himself was not present to take a bow; the 90-year-old designer was 'recovering at home,' according to a statement from the brand, without providing further details. At Tod's, designer Matteo Tamburini leaned into unfussy pieces that had polished appeal. Describing the collection to CNN as 'relaxed elegance with a little touch of sportswear,' Tamburini used materials, such as compact linen, crepe cotton and ultra-light wool, that he felt would be comfortable to move around in. British menswear stalwart Paul Smith, which normally shows in Paris, made its Milan debut with a show that expressed love for the city. Flea markets and vintage relics were references that defined the designer's joyful moodboard, which also took inspiration from a book of Cairo street photography. Guests, including actors Will Poulter and Daryl McCormack, sat on colorful food crates that were a nod to street markets. Among the key looks were pinstripe suiting, linen essentials and embroidered motifs on tops and outerwear. Fellow British label Dunhill, which also migrated to Milan this season, dug into the elegance of Windsor men — in particular, the Duke of Windsor and King Charles, as well as British rock stars Bryan Ferry and Charlie Watts. 'What I love is that both sets of men adhere to a very classic taste but one group wore it in a very codified way and the others wore it in a much more effortless casual way,' Dunhill's designer Simon Holloway told CNN. 'In a way, the components were the same — incredible tailoring, incredible outerwear, haberdashery, the full gamut of the classic men's wardrobe worn in two very uniquely British ways.' Elsewhere, London-based label Saul Nash returned to Milan for the second time (his first show took place at the beginning of the year) with a collection steeped in functionality, as he explored the power of human connection and designed with movement in mind. Nash is among a wave of independent designers finding their voice at Milan Fashion Week, which has typically been dominated by heavyweight brands such as Gucci and Fendi — both of which sat this season out. Other up-and-coming names to watch include PDF, the Milan-based streetwear brand founded by Domenico Formichetti, which count racing driver Lewis Hamilton and rapper Central Cee as fans; and Simon Cracker, the Milanese label founded by Filippo Biraghi and Simone Botte with a focus on upcycling. 'It's about abolishing classist thinking and clichés and having a voice,' Botte told CNN.

‘Taking a little break': Another Michelin-recommended Miami restaurant presses pause

One of the most anticipated Miami restaurants of 2024, the creation of a world-famous Italian chef, has announced it's closing — but only for summer, a restaurant spokesperson said. Torno Subito, the whimsical spot from Chef Massimo Bottura on the rooftop of Julia & Henry's food hall in downtown Miami, announced via its social media account that it would be taking 'a summer pause.' 'We'll be taking a little break but la dolce vita isn't over just yet,' said a post on Instagram. 'Join us for one last rooftop evening before we close for the season.' The restaurant, which opened last August to great fanfare and was named as a recommended restaurant in the 2025 Michelin Guide, is known for its playful approach to Italian cuisine, ensured in Miami by chef de cuisine Bernardo Paladini. The menu includes a nod to Bottura's passion project — eliminating food waste — in the pappa al pomodoro, made with day-old bread, tomato and Parmigiano Reggiano foam. Another famous dish was the signature tortellini stuffed with pork in a rich Parmigiano Reggiano sauce. It was also a sister to Bottura's original Torno Subito at the W Dubai – The Palm hotel. That location opened in 2019 and earned a Michelin star, but closed last November, a move that inspires the question: Will the Miami restaurant really return? Spokesperson Nidal Barake assures fans that it will. 'With summer being a naturally transitional period for many in Miami's restaurant industry, we are using this time to step back intentionally, focus on development, and prepare for an even stronger return in the winter,' he explained. 'This pause allows us to refine our operations and elevate what we do best.' He also said the first year in Miami was 'amazing.' 'The city welcomed us with open arms, and the creative community here has inspired us all,' he said. 'We remain fully committed to Miami.' One of the difficulties restaurants face when shutting down for a couple of months is retaining trained staff members, including cooks, servers and bussers. Barake said that some Torno Subito staff members will stay on through the summer to work on research and development, while others will continue their training at the Francescana Family properties in Italy. The team plans to retain as many as possible for the reopening, he said. Read more: After almost 20 years, this Italian restaurant in Miami Beach has closed for good The plan is to reopen sometime around the end of the third fiscal quarter, which means around the end of September. 'This is not a closure,' he reiterated. 'It is a reset designed to strengthen everything we have built already.' The announcement comes at a time during which more than a few Miami restaurants that made the Michelin Guide have pressed pause, some for good. EntreNos in Miami Shores, which earned a Michelin star two years ago, closes at the end of June, while the Portuguese spot Sereia in Coconut Grove announced it was closing at the end of May. Julia & Henry's, located at 200 E. Flagler St. in the historic Miami Walgreens building, has undergone a change as well recently. The three-story food hall, which opened in 2023, has now moved all of its vendors from the third floor, making way for Magic City Collective, a new retail experience from the team behind Magic City Flea.
