Burgess eyes Swans progress after Ipswich successes
Australia centre-back Burgess was an Ipswich regular as the East Anglian club claimed promotion from League One in 2022-23 and then finished second in the Championship the following season.
He played 18 times in the Premier League last term as Ipswich were relegated but, with his Portman Road contract up in the summer, opted to join Swansea on a three-year deal.
Asked to explain the decision to swap Suffolk for south Wales, Burgess said: "I feel like I can contribute here. I know where the club wants to go and I feel like I can be a really big part of that.
"It was a really tough decision [to leave Ipswich]. I had four really amazing years there.
"But there are a lot of things to consider in a player's career and I felt this was the right team for me. Hopefully we can replicate some of the memories [from Ipswich] here."
Burgess will make his competitive Swansea debut as Alan Sheehan's team begin 2025-26 with a trip to Middlesbrough on Saturday.
While there is work for Swansea to do in the transfer market, former Fulham youngster Burgess says Sheehan's squad has the same kind of "culture, team spirit and work ethic" that brought Ipswich success.
And he sees "progress from last season" as the goal for the upcoming campaign, with Swansea aiming to improve on an 11th-place finish last May.
"If we can do that, it's a successful season," Burgess added.
"The club have made steps forward off the pitch and it's time to replicate that on the pitch."

Murray helps Guernsey FC to Seaford Town win
Sam Murray marked his 100th Guernsey FC appearance with the only goal as the Green Lions beat Seaford Town 1-0 in the Southern Combination Premier Division. The victory was the island side's second in successive league games since relegation in April. The win means Guernsey are one of five sides in the 20-team division to have won their opening two matches. Callum Le Lacheur had the best chance of a scrappy first half before Guernsey improved after the break. Murray finished through the goalkeeper's legs after being put through by Tom Vaudin. The hosts ended the game with eight men after red cards in the final five minutes for Josh Bradley and Tom Shelley after bad tackles before skipper Matt Simpson was sin-binned. Ken Hinkley responds after Collingwood premiership player linked with Port move
Outgoing Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has attempted to quell reports around Beau McCreery joining the Power having fended away questions regarding trade rumours. Hinkley is stepping down at the end of the season with the side unfortunately out of finals footy contention. And the outgoing coach has hit back at a number of reports around Port Adelaide making a play at Collingwood's McCreery on a four-year deal. The 24-year-old has been a pivotal part of the Magpies' success this season with his latest absence coinciding with Collingwood's dip in form. McCreery is contracted until the end of 2027, but reports suggest a number of AFL clubs are looking at the midfielder. Although Hinkley, who will depart at the end of the season after 13 years, admitted it was news to him if McCreery was being targeted by his club. 'I have not seen Beau at the footy club,' he said. 'If he has been here, I might not recognise him, but I think he's trying to get over a hamstring to get back and ready to play football for Collingwood.' McCreery has been in great form for Collingwood having helped a stellar midfield, featuring Nick Daicos and Steele Sidebottom, in 2025. Although he has only played one game of footy since round 15, which was the loss against Fremantle. But as an outgoing dig at the media, Hinkley hit back at the reports over the AFL trade merry-go-round. On Tuesday night, St Kilda coach Ross Lyon took aim at some 'half-baked' reports about his players having tried to shut down the speculation. On Wednesday, Lyon stopped his press conference short having suggested the questions directed at him shouldn't be about list management ahead of the game against Essendon on the weekend. And Hinkley has also moved to rubbish most of the rumours out in the AFL ether. Hinkley said most of the speculation never comes to fruition having also dealt with his fare share of rumours during his time as coach. 'Everyone gets linked everywhere, don't they, this time of year when there's an opportunity,' he said. "What I do know about footy is that about one per cent come true.' Ken Hinkley remains coy on Wanganeen-Milera links Meanwhile, Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera is the talk of the AFL world at the moment with St Kilda doing everything they can to keep him at the club. Although Wanganeen-Milera has been linked with a move back home to Adelaide. Wanganeen-Milera is yet to confirm his future and Buddy Franklin suggested the St Kilda star could be on the move with decisions late in the season normally leaning suggesting a player wants a change of scenery. 'I think he's gone, I think he's definitely going,' Franklin said on his podcast Buddy & Shane Show. 'For me, why would you hold out so long? This has taken all year. If the decision was to stay, it would've happened weeks ago I would've thought.' And while Hinkley remained coy on Wanganeen-Milera's specific situation, he also hinted the lack of clarification could also suggest the player might be considering his options in the AFL. Although the Port Adelaide coach of 13 years claimed he wasn't going to weigh-in on any player. 'History would tell you that long term, late in the season, those decisions do seem to go a certain way,' Hinkley said. "But I'm not going to make any prediction on any of that because I have no information and I can't help you in any way to predict the outcome. I do know that the young man that everyone's talking about, I can understand why everyone's talking about him.'

Steelers wrap up final practice of training camp at Saint Vincent College
Training camp at Saint Vincent College is a wrap for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Aaron Rodgers was on the field for the Steelers on Tuesday. His leg needed to be wrapped but he did practice and head coach Mike Tomlin said it was nothing significant. Rodgers said he had a blast at the Saint Vincent training camp experience, not just working on various parts of the game plans, but also getting to know the new group of teammates. The veteran quarterback also had some high praise for some of the skill players he'll be playing alongside coming up this fall. "I think I'm playing a little bit better," Rodgers said. "I feel comfortable in the offense and DK and I have been getting on the same page a little more frequently, which helps. You know, we've had some injuries, obviously. Calvin's been out for a while, so we'd love to get him back, but it gives opportunities for other guys. I think Scotty's done a nice job and made a lot of plays for us. I think Roman's starting to feel confident in what he's doing. I love the tight ends. I think you're getting a lot of production out of those guys. Again, with Jonnu out, one guy I'd love to single out is Connor. Connor does the right thing every time. He's a really smart football player and the smartest players are the best players, so he's the kind of guy you feel right confident that you can put him in there at any time and know he's gonna be on the same page." Rodgers said he hopes he and his offensive line can be on the same page all season long, too -- in particular with his offensive tackles. Broderick Jones has the assignment of being Rodgers' blindside protector and during the team's first preseason game in Jacksonville, Jones had a solid performance. The offensive line has been a topic of discussion the entire preseason, mainly because it's the first time the starters have been back together on the line in a year and also because there's a level of concern about their size and lack of depth. The line held a clean pocket for quarterback Mason Rudolph on Saturday while facing Jacksonville's starting defense as the Steelers closed out the opening drive for a touchdown. "It was alright," Jones said. "You know, it's always things you can clean up here and there, but for the most part, I thought we were in sync. I think we're starting to gel, just as a whole unit. We've just got to continue to trend in the right way and continue to lock in and focus on the things we can focus on and do what we can and just continue to play football." Jones says he has one main goal for himself this season. "Consistency," Jones said. "That's it, consistency. That's all football is about. If you're able to be consistent in this sport, you'll be alright." Meanwhile, it was confirmed Tuesday that rookie quarterback Will Howard will not need surgery, but is still likely to be out of the lineup until the beginning of the regular season with a broken bone in his hand. Howard, who was having a very solid first camp, says he's trying to make the most out of a bad situation. "It sucks," Howard said. "Every ounce of me wants to be out there playing and I'm just kind of, sitting here doing nothing and it kills me. Especially on something what felt dumb, to me, you know, as a freak accident. Things happen and it's about how you respond to it and how you handle the adversity. I wish I could go back and change it and I wish I could be out there playing, but the fact of the matter is it happened and I've got to continue to stay locked in and make sure I'm still on my stuff and locked in during meetings and during practice and still getting all the mental reps because this time is still important for me and although I'm not getting the physical reps, I need to continue to get the mental reps if I want to continue to on the trajectory that I was on." The Steelers are set to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium for the team's second preseason game. KDKA's coverage for the game begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
