CM Chandrababu Naidu to release HNSS Phase-1 canal water in Nandyal district tomorrow
On July 17, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will release water into the expanded canal at the Malyala Pumping Station in Nandikotkur mandal of Nandyal district.
The coalition government has achieved the target of completing the Phase-1 canal expansion within 100 days as promised. With an investment of `696 crore, the canal's flow capacity has been enhanced to 3,850 cusecs, enabling an additional 1,600 cusecs of water to be transported.
This upgrade facilitates the filling of the Jeedipalli Reservoir to its full capacity, ensuring irrigation facility for agricultural lands, and drinking water for 33 lakh people across Kurnool, Anantapur and Chittoor districts.
The 216-km canal expansion from Malyala to Jeedipalli will also fill local water bodies, including reservoirs in Jeedipalli, Krishnagiri, Pattikonda and Gajuldinne, boosting groundwater levels in Rayalaseema. By the end of this month, water will reach Kuppam and Punganur branch canals, further extending its benefits.

Syria Says Withdrawing Troops After Agreeing To Ceasefire In Sweida
Damascus: Syria announced it had begun withdrawing its army from Druze-majority Sweida city on Wednesday night after agreeing to a new ceasefire that it said would bring a complete halt to its military operations there. A previous truce announced on Tuesday appeared to have little effect on the ground in the southern region, where days of violence have left more than 300 dead, according to a monitor. According to the text of the new ceasefire agreement, published by the interior ministry, there will be a "total and immediate halt to all military operations", as well as the formation of a committee comprising government officials and Druze spiritual leaders to supervise its implementation. The defence ministry later said it had "begun withdrawing from the city of Sweida in implementation of the terms of the adopted agreement after the end of the sweep of the city for outlaw groups". The ministry's statement made no mention of the withdrawal of any other government security forces deployed to the city. In a video carried by state television, Sheikh Youssef Jarboua, one of Syria's three main Druze spiritual leaders, read out the 10 points of the agreement, which also included "the full integration of the province" of Sweida into the Syrian state. Until now, Druze areas have been controlled by fighters from the minority community. After Islamist-led rebels toppled longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in December after 14 years of civil war, some Druze fighters said they were ready to integrate into the new security forces. The text of the ceasefire indicates that no harm will come to civilians or their property, after witnesses and a monitor reported abuses in recent days including summary executions and looting on the part of government forces and their allies. It also provides for "the release of detainees" and inquiries into the fate of the missing. Another influential Druze chief, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, rejected the new agreement after it was announced. "There cannot be an accord or negotiations with these armed groups that call themselves a government," he said in a statement. Earlier on Wednesday, Hijri had appealed to US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "and all those who have influence in the world" to "save Sweida". The Men of Dignity movement, one of the two largest Druze armed groups in the area, said Wednesday that "any agreement that does not include the full withdrawal of the invading forces... will be totally unacceptable". In a statement on Facebook, the group added it would keep fighting unless "the invaders withdraw from all the villages and towns that they have desecrated". The clashes in the south began on Sunday between the Druze and Bedouin tribes, who have a long-running feud, sparking an intervention by government forces who deployed in Sweida city. Witnesses reported that upon entering the city, the government forces joined with the Bedouin in attacking Druze fighters and civilians.

State govt, Bawankule behind ink attack: Pravin Gaikwad
1 2 3 Pune: Politician Pravin Gaikwad who is associated with the Sambhaji Brigade alleged on Wednesday that the recent attack where ink was thrown on him was preplanned and supported by the BJP-led state govt. He said revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has close links with the attackers and was the mastermind. On Sunday, Gaikwad was in Akkalkot in Solapur district to participate in a function, when local BJP members threw ink on him. They alleged that his organisation was disrespectful in its use of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's name. Solapur police registered an FIR against a group of people, including BJP member Deepak Kate. On Wednesday, Gaikwad alleged that Kate and others attacked him as they had support from Bawankule. He also played old videos during an interaction with reporters in Pune. "In the past, Bawankule has openly praised Kate and spoken of supporting him. There is no doubt the attack was preplanned and the minister was the mastermind," he said. Responding to the allegations, Bawankule said he would never support any act of violence. He said, "I have already condemned the incident. There may be ideological differences and we can have a debate on it, but it does not mean that one will take the law into their own hands." Speaking about his alleged connection with Kate, who was arrested in the incident, the revenue minister said, "It is true that when Kate joined BJP two-and-half years ago, I went for the event as the state party chief. We usually speak words of encouragement when anyone joins the party. It does not mean I support the act. Neither our govt nor BJP will ever stand for violence. All people involved in the attack must be punished. "

Mosul Airport Reopens Years After ISIS Devastation
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani inaugurated Wednesday the city of Mosul's newly restored airport, years after it was destroyed in the battle to dislodge the Islamic State group. Sudani's flight landed at the airport, which is expected to become fully operational for domestic and international flights in two months. "The airport will serve as an additional link between Mosul and other Iraqi cities and regional destinations," the media office of the PM said in a statement. In June 2014, the Islamic State group seized Mosul, declaring its "caliphate" from the city after capturing large swathes of Iraq and neighbouring Syria. After years of fierce battles, Iraqi forces backed by a US-led international coalition dislodged the group from the city in July 2017, before declaring its defeat across the country at the end of that year. The airport, which was heavily damaged in the battle, has not been operational since the jihadists seized Mosul. In August 2022, then-prime minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi laid the foundation stone for the airport's reconstruction. Airport director Amar al-Bayati told AFP that the "airport is now ready for domestic and international flights," but no date has been announced for their resumption. He added that the airport previously offered international flights, mostly to Turkey and Jordan. The airport now includes a main terminal, a VIP lounge and an advanced radar surveillance system, Sudani's office said. Its expected to handle 630,000 passengers annually.
