The One Show's Alex Jones 'beside herself' over awkward moment with iconic star
Speaking to Scott Mills during a recent broadcast of his BBC Radio 2 show, Alex described an "awkward" moment she'd had with a beloved TV icon at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show
Alex recounted an "awkward" moment she experienced with British TV royalty
Alex Jones has admitted that she was once left "beside" herself due to an "awkward" moment that occurred between her, her dog and a TV icon. In a recent broadcast of The Scott Mills Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 (August 8), Alex opened up to the DJ about her presenting role as she marked 15 years on The One Show.
However, earlier in the interview, Alex recounted a rather "awkward" moment that she experienced with British TV royalty during the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (held in May).
It came as Scott and Alex recalled that their last meeting had taken place at the show. Alex apologised to the radio star for the difficulties she'd had with her black Labrador, Scout, during their interview at the time.
She explained that Scout was "lovely" but was "excited" on the day, meaning Alex "couldn't even finish a sentence" with Scott without being "tugged away" by the mischievous pup, adding that their training wasn't "going brilliantly".

Alex said: "No, I mean, he's a lovely boy. He's such a kind dog, but he is not food-orientated, which is odd for a Lab, isn't it? So, treats mean nothing. So, you can't get him to do anything."
Scott went on to ask if it was true that, after he'd left, Scout playfully "went for Mary Berry", to which Alex jokingly told him not to "spread these rumours", noting how Scout had met the Bake Off legend before.
She said: "Well, he actually - oh, my gosh, I'm going to say it on the radio - he weed on Mary's dog the first time. I know, and it was awful, and it was awkward. Anyway, but he loves Mary because Mary is an icon, obviously, Dame Mary, we should say.
"And he ran up and saw her and jumped up, full paws on shoulder moment, and I was beside myself because I thought, 'Do not knock over a Dame who I love dearly'."
Earlier this month, Alex's 15-year stint on The One Show was marked with a special on-set anniversary that saw a surprise appearance from her husband, Charlie Thomson.

In the episode, Charlie joined them on the sofa, with her husband bringing a bouquet of flowers for a tearful Alex.

As he sat down, Alex declared that it was "weird" being next to him on the show.
She said: "It's very weird, it's weird being this side. It's weird being next to you. You're normally in the garden, building the treehouse now."
In a touching tribute to his wife, Charlie said: "I'm extremely proud, not just from what she's achieved here but also with the family at home."

Why Jeremy Clarkson's discovery of 'genuinely alarming' effects of climate change is so important

For a long time, I quite liked the bloke-ish bonhomie of the 'classic' Top Gear, with Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond. I didn't particularly mind Clarkson's near-to-the-knuckle jokes, dodgy comments about truck drivers or his dismissal of climate change. He could sometimes make me laugh – and you can't agree about everything. However, his horrendous 'slope' remark – about an Asian man on a bridge they had built over the River Kwai – and his decision to punch a Top Gear producer because of the lack of hot food after a day's shooting both created a sour taste that has lingered. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad It wasn't just the potential racism of the slur. It was also the fact that this was a man who had laboured alongside them; it was a sneering betrayal. And as someone who has worked with people known, in all seriousness, as 'the talent' – who were sometimes anything but and comically so – I almost felt that highly entitled punch myself. READ MORE: Demise of hybrid cars in Norway shows how UK is falling behind in technological race Jeremy Clarkson has been a vocal campaigner during farmers' protests about Labour's changes to inheritance tax but is also voicing the concerns of many about the effects of the changing weather on food production (Picture: Carl Court) | Getty Images Clarkson facing 'catastrophic' harvest But Clarkson is still not without redeeming features, including a willingness, for all his bombastic on-screen persona, to change his mind. In 2019, he revealed he had encountered a 'graphic demonstration of global warming' after getting stuck on a boat in a dried-up river in Cambodia. He told The Sunday Times: 'It's the first time that we've ever admitted to there being global warming. It was alarming, genuinely alarming.' More recently, his Prime Video show, Clarkson's Farm, appears to have done a great deal to educate people about the reality of farming and has also revealed a different side to his personality. Last year, while rather optimistically suggesting 'science will solve it eventually, always does', Clarkson told the Guardian that working on his farm, Diddly Squat (a great and very 'Clarkson' name), had made him realise that the effects of climate change were 'happening really fast'. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'That's what always surprises me. In the last five years, I've noticed a dramatic change here... It hasn't snowed for five years. We probably get a minute of sleet. We used to get snowed in every year,' he said. While saying this, he apparently smirked and said to his interviewer 'I'm like a Guardian reader's wet dream, aren't I?' – a remark that sounds like a jibe but is begrudgingly conciliatory to people he normally disagrees with. On Friday last week, he wrote on social media: 'It looks like this year's harvest will be catastrophic. That should be a worry for anyone who eats food. If a disaster on this scale had befallen any other industry, there would be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth... Normal weather would help. It never stopped raining in 2024 and never started in 2025.' Many farmers have been hit by floods, drought or both in recent years (Picture: Carl Court) | Getty Images Farms hit by extreme weather It is a message that many farmers would like the rest of us, particularly those living in cities, insulated as we are from the realities of food production, to hear. A survey published last month by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) found that 86 per cent of farmers had been affected by extreme rainfall, 78 per cent by drought and more than half by heatwaves. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Just 2 per cent had not experienced some kind of extreme weather. Some 84 per cent had experienced a reduction in crop yields or livestock output, and three-quarters had seen a fall in their incomes. Tom Lancaster, the ECIU's land, food and farming analyst, said: 'Farmers are on the front line of climate change and this research reveals what impact that is having on them and their businesses. From lost crops and livestock to soil erosion, farmers are battling these impacts across more fronts than most with repeated heatwaves, droughts and periods of extreme rainfall all taking a toll on farmer confidence.' This, he said, called the UK's food security into question. 'We need to be taking these risks more seriously, with more support for farming to adapt and build resilience, as well as more urgent action to help farmers reduce their own emissions.' Global food prices set to rise Similar problems are being faced by farmers all over the world. In a study published in June by the leading journal Nature, Stanford University academics estimated that, for every degree Celsius of global warming, the world's ability to produce food would fall by 120 calories per person per day. One of the researchers, Professor Solomon Hsiang, warned that 'when global production falls, consumers are hurt because prices go up and it gets harder to access food and feed our families'. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad It is currently thought the world is on track for about 2.7C of warming by 2100 – well above the 1.5C and 2C limits suggested by scientists to avoid 'dangerous' consequences. Unless and until we reduce carbon emissions to net zero, our climate will keep on getting hotter, less temperate and less benign. While many viewers, including me, may have thought that Clarkson was being himself on Top Gear, he has spoken about playing a caricature of himself, 'a comic creation'. However, his Clarkson's Farm persona seems more like the real person and, fortunately, that is someone who, when confronted by the reality that our climate really is changing, is able to see it for what it is. Ironically, his Top Gear character may help him persuade people – who, for various reasons, are still reluctant to accept that climate change is a problem – to face the increasingly obvious facts that farmers are confronted with on a regular basis.

Alex Kingston gets seal of approval from Strictly Come Dancing pro - 'Extremely cool'
Strictly Come Dancing has announced six celebrities who will be hitting the ballroom later this year, but one in particular has excited professional dancer Dianne Buswell Strictly Come Dancing's Dianne Buswel l has branded a 2025 contestant 'extremely cool' as Doctor Who enthusiasts were left 'screaming' following a major announcement. With mere weeks remaining before the annual BBC programme kicks off, the initial quartet of celebrities were unveiled on Monday (August 11). The opening reveal caught supporters off guard as Harry Aikines-Aryeetey was disclosed during an instalment of children's news show Newsround. Known as Nitro, Harry is most famous for taking part in the Bradley and Barney Walsh edition of Gladiators. Additionally, Harry is a multiple gold medal-winning Team GB sprinter, who became the first competitor to secure gold medals in both 100 and 200 metres at the World Youth Championships. "After the Christmas Special, it was so nice I just had to do it twice! I'm so excited to be part of the Strictly family this series and I'm ready to give it all I've got. I'll be bringing tons of energy to light up the dance floor. Let's hope I'm as quick picking up the routines as I am on the track," he said. Later during the evening, Strictly enthusiasts were urged to watch The One Show as three additional contestants were being revealed by Roman Kemp and Alex Scott. The opening member of the trio disclosed was Love Island champion Dani Dyer, with the daughter of EastEnders icon Danny Dyer wed to Jarrod Bowen. On joining Strictly Come Dancing, Dani said: "Getting the opportunity to be on Strictly is the second most amazing thing I've done this year! I feel very very blessed and cannot wait to get my dancing shoes on." The third and final celebrity revealed on the magazine programme was Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a former footballer who represented Leeds United, Atlético Madrid and Chelsea during his playing career. Following his retirement, Jimmy has established himself as a recognisable figure in football commentary for leading UK sports broadcasters, taken charge of clubs including Burton Albion and Northampton Town and worked as an assistant coach with the England national squad. "Swapping the pitch for the ballroom is certainly not something I've done before but I'm looking forward to tackling a fun challenge! Bring on a new type of footwork, with hopefully no own goals," he joked. Nevertheless, it was the reveal of Doctor Who icon Alex Kingston that seems to have generated the greatest buzz across social media platforms. Following her rise to fame on the medical drama ER as Dr Elizabeth Corday, Alex went on to portray one of the legendary sci-fi programme's most beloved characters. Featured on Doctor Who from 2008 to 2015, Alex brought River Song, aka The Doctor's Wife, to life alongside three different Doctors on television and remains active in audio adventures and literary works. Alex has also appeared in Douglas Is Cancelled, Treason, Gilmore Girls, Boudica, Lost in Austen, Dodger, A Discovery of Witches, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, and Arrow. Her impressive theatre credits include portraying Lady Macbeth and Nurse Ratchet in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. On the official Strictly Instagram page, Dianne, who claimed the Glitterball Trophy with blind comedian Chris McCausland last year, captured everyone's sentiments. She posted: "Extremely cool love this!" To which Alex, who is presently in Italy, responded: "So excited to get dancing!". Adding to the praise was Motsi Mabuse, who penned: "Welcome to the Strictly family, Alex! Can't wait to see your personality shine on that dance floor, here's to sparkle, rhythm, and unforgettable moments! Woop Woop." Countless Doctor Who enthusiasts couldn't hide their delight as they anticipate discovering whether Alex excels at dancing as much as she does at fighting aliens. @bobby_seagull declared: "Was such a big fan of hers on Doctor Who!" @mommagledders shared: "I love her so much! She would be great with Johannes!". @stephlhulme penned: "Ahhh! I am a big Whovian and this announcement has made my day." @richardfrankscomedy noted: "Such a cool signing." @giselle_barajas1234 exclaimed: "DOCTOR WHO FANS ARE SCREAMING. YES ALEX." @calum_creates suggested: "I know it's been done before, but please can Alex dance to the Doctor Who theme!"

Katie Price's ex Kieran issues public apology to Princess saying walking away from family was the ‘hardest thing'
KATIE Price's ex Kieran has issued a heartfelt public apology to their daughter Princess - admitting walking away from the family was the 'hardest thing he's had to do.' On her new ITV2 show The Princess Diaries, Princess recalled watching her mum Katie, 47, go through dark times — heartbreak, drug battles, PTSD, and even a suicide attempt — all triggered by the messy split. She said: "He was in our lives for five years, so we got really close to him, obviously we loved him, he did a lot of stuff and when they split up everything went downhill. "My mum was obviously heartbroken, she didn't deal with that the best way, she went through a very, very dark time which was understandable." Advertisement Now Kieran has admitted he "regrets" cheating on Katie — with her former best mate Jane Pountney and their ex-nanny Nikki Brown. He revealed it became impossible to shield Junior, 20, and Princess — whose dad is singer Peter Andre — from the fallout. Leaving the family home where he'd lived with the kids for five years was "one of the hardest things I ever had to do," he said, adding he's "deeply sorry" for letting them down. He said: "It makes me feel so sad. I am as sorry as I can be to Princess witnessing us go through such a horrible separation. Leaving them was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. Kieran confessed he's been watching Princess's ITV2 show and wants to reach out. EXC Princess and Junior Andre reveal deal-breaker demand for I'm A Celeb and why they don't care about 'nepo-baby' label He said he thinks he was the "best stepfather that I could have been," but he admits the bonds with his stepchildren have faded over time. He added: "Life moves on and you no longer play a role in their lives anymore." Advertisement But he saw Princess at a celebrity event in December and said: "We spoke to each other, I gave her a cuddle, and I would be exactly the same with Junior. Nothing ended badly between me and the children." Katie and Kieran tied the knot in January 2013, but their marriage only lasted five turbulent years before their divorce was finalised in March 2021.
