Vernon Kay left taken aback by 'divine' Scottish holiday spot discovery with Tess Daly

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Vernon Kay was left taken aback during a recent search for holiday spots with his wife, Tess Daly. On his BBC Radio 2 show this week, Vernon shared that he and Strictly's Tess had a "wonderful" evening browsing potential holiday destinations on a tablet over drinks. While Vernon sipped on Baileys and Tess enjoyed white wine, they envisioned themselves in various settings, from sandy beaches to hotel balconies. Despite considering some "far-flung" places, Vernon also praised the UK's own stunning locales, particularly mentioning the "divine" beaches found in Scotland. (Image: Getty Images) Vernon enthused: "Oh, we went through a lot of holiday destinations. Fabulous. Some far-flung, some here in the UK. some beautiful resorts in the UK." He continued, highlighting the Scottish coastal route, saying: "I mean, we get a lot of listeners who do the Scottish coastal road, the 500. What's it called, Phil? That's it, the North Coast 500, and people say, 'Oh, look at the beaches here'. "You're like, 'No, Photoshop'. No, last night, oh my goodness me! Some divine beaches up there in Scotland. So that's what we did. How times change." The North Coast 500, often referred to as Scotland's ultimate road trip, offers travellers over 500 miles of breathtaking coastal views, encompassing mountains, beaches, and quaint villages. The official site proclaims the NC500 as an iconic coastal route embracing six regions: Black Isle, Caithness, Easter Ross, Inverness-shire, Sutherland, and Wester Ross, touting it as "one of the world's most iconic coastal touring routes". (Image:) Meanwhile, Vernon, the former host of Family Fortunes, recently spoke about a tense time at home. The reason? Their daughter, Amber, is deep in the throes of prepping for her GCSEs. With two daughters, including Phoebe, his eldest, Vernon opened up on air, stating: "Got GCSEs on the they're here. We've started ours, we're up and running." He then shared details about his own experience with the exams, explaining that he knows they're "stressful" but doesn't remember his from "so long ago" in 1990. In a candid confession, he mused over his past exams: "I remember sitting there thinking, 'Gosh, I wish I'd revised'. I'm not remembering anymore, it's making me depressed." However, the star added that he was "rubbish" at exams and shared his belief that it's "not the way education should be", joking that he would have landed an A+ in hide and seek. He went on to say that the experience is "torturous" for some, and urged fellow parents to support their children through their studies. Finally, Vernon gave some advice to fellow parents, saying: "There's nothing else they can do. There's no point cramming. You can cram all you want in your revision, which we all did, let's be honest, but you've just got to hold their hand haven't you?"

The Piano's Claudia Winkleman shares tearful family update as she admits 'that's enough for me'

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Television host Claudia Winkleman has provided an insight into her thought process when presenting television shows. Claudia, 53, who co-hosts The Piano alongside Mika and Jon Batiste, has been speaking about she keeps her emotions in check during filming. She explained that the reason is because it is her job to support and empower people rather than get caught up in the moment. She told the Radio Times Magazine that after one episode of The Piano, she was told by her father it was some of the best work she had ever done. On the importance of being emotionally stable whilst filming, Claudia said: 'Because when somebody's telling you their story and the power of it is overwhelming, my job is to give them some strength and safety.' Claudia added: 'After my dad watched last year's final, he phoned me up in tears and he said, 'That's by far the best thing you have ever done'. And that's enough for me, because I can never watching anything I've done back.' Claudia's career has been in the spotlight in different ways in recent days after fellow presenter Vernon Kay played a clip of one of her first television appearances on his BBC Radio 2 show in which she gave dating advice. Remarking on the Claudia's early television appearances, Vernon said: 'It's time to dive into the BBC Archive for our midweek trip into the vault. We're taking our second visit to the '90s in recent days. 'Back in 1996, Claudia Winkleman wasn't known as 'Claudia from Strictly', or 'Claudia from the Traitors', or 'National Treasure Claudia Winkleman'. No, no, no, no! For one of her first TV appearances, we saw a whole different side to our Claud. 'Long before Morning Live was around, we had Good Morning with Anne and Nick on BBC One with Claudia introduced as a 'Chat up expert'. This is genius.' Claudia is now one of the country's most treasured presenters having taken the reigns for Strictly Come Dancing alongside Tess Daly and become presenter of The Traitors. It was with The Traitors that Claudia found renewed adoration among the public, but admitted she worries about her career coming to an end, reported the Mirror. She said: I cannot believe my luck. I always panic because [I'm] freelance. I read out loud on tele and somebody suddenly might turn around and go, 'We are done with her'. 'And, that's OK, they can, and I give them full permission and I get it, I'd be like, 'byesy bye, night night, thank you, I've had a lovely run'.' The final of season three of The Piano airs tonight (May 25) at 9pm on Channel 4.

From 4am breakfasts to personal trainers – inside Liam and Noel Gallagher's bid to get fit ahead of Oasis reunion tour

I am told Liam will be making the most of the swimming pool at his home in France LIVE FOREVER From 4am breakfasts to personal trainers – inside Liam and Noel Gallagher's bid to get fit ahead of Oasis reunion tour THEY were once the poster boys for a rock 'n' roll lifestyle of cigarettes and alcohol. But with just 40 days until they kick off their Oasis reunion tour, I can reveal Noel and Liam Gallagher are putting their health first. 9 Noel and Liam Gallagher are putting their health first ahead of their Oasis reunion tour Credit: PA As they gear up for their Live '25 shows, I am told Liam will be making the most of the swimming pool at his home in France — and jogging around Hampstead Heath, near his house in London, to work on his cardio. Meanwhile, Noel has employed a personal trainer to keep him in shape. A source said: 'Both brothers need to be in the best shape of their lives for the physical onslaught of touring. They're no spring chickens and are both in their fifties. 'Liam has politely declined personal trainers but brother Noel is taking all the help he can get. Liam loves jogging around Hampstead Heath and he wants to make the most of his pool. The insider added: 'Noel was keen to take on the extra help as he needs a bit more encouragement in the fitness department. 'He's not as motivated as Liam but realises he needs to be in the best shape possible for their tour.' The band are set to kick off their long-awaited 41-date tour at Cardiff's Principality Stadium on July 4. The move won't be such a shock for Liam as he's been living a much cleaner lifestyle in recent years. He revealed last year that he rises at the crack of dawn and enjoys a healthy breakfast. He said: 'I get up at four or five in the morning. Then I'm just waiting for something f***ing spectacular to happen. Inside Noel & Liam Gallagher's first Oasis show in 16 years at surprise venue where they enraged neighbour 'I have porridge for breakfast, then if I'm feeling really rock 'n' roll I'll have some almonds on it and a bit of honey.' The frontman underwent a major hip operation in 2023 after crippling arthritis left him with severe joint pain. Crippling arthritis Speaking about his new lifestyle last year, he said: 'You've got to undo all the bad work you've done through getting off your head. It's time to undo it all and get back to reality.' But Noel revealed that Oasis fans are unlikely to spot him at the gym. Speaking on BBC Radio 2 in 2023, he told Zoe Ball: 'I'd rather spend a fortune to put a gym in my house than go through the embarrassment of being in a public gym. 'Because if I ever get photographed coming out of the gym in gym gear — it's over. 'Nobody needs to see it, nobody will ever see it.' I can't imagine seeing Noel down the local PureGym either . . . ANAIS' BLUDY GOOD NIGHT NOEL GALLAGHER's daughter Anais and her rocker pal Yungblud are all smiles as they hit the town. Yungblud – real name Dominic Harrison – previously told me that Noel thought he was very mouthy. The singer said: 'I met Noel at a party when I was about 18 and he thought I was f***ing gobby, but I have not seen him since.' Asked about the Oasis tour, Yungblud added: 'I know Anais well so I will probably go with her.' ROD STEWART will be playing the Sunday Legends slot at Glastonbury this year. But he will be sailing quickly in and out of Worthy Farm – and does not plan on packing wellies. His wife Penny Lancaster told me: 'No, it's not really his thing. I'm sure there will be some kind of transportation that will prevent him getting his feet wet.' She also revealed that their teenage son Alastair, and Rod's daughters Ruby and Renee, will be attending but will not get the VIP treatment – despite their dad playing on the Pyramid Stage. Speaking at London's Chelsea Flower Show, Penny added: 'I won't be in a tent, but my son and two of Rod's daughters are going to be pitching up for five days. 'They're all going down en masse. I'll just be turning up with Rod on the day.' THEY are preparing to welcome their first child. But I can reveal Scottish DJ Calvin Harris and BBC Radio 1 host Vick Hope are jetting off on a babymoon before the little one arrives. 9 Vick Hope and Calvin Harris are jetting off on a babymoon before the little one arrives Credit: PA Her stylist Jennifer Michalski-Bray told me: 'Now Vick is on mat leave she'll be taking the opportunity to recharge on holiday so I think she will be in bikinis and comfy clothes. 'She's enjoyed experimenting with maternity style and sustainable ways to be comfortable while staying true to her usual style – renting and buying pre-loved items.' Vick announced earlier this week that it was her final Going Home show with co-host Jamie Laing, as she headed on maternity leave. Flaunting her bump in a blue dress, she posted: 'Thank you for the love and the laughs these last few months Jamie, all the team and our amazing listeners.' 'She will be filming with American actress Megan Stalter, who is the star of Netflix's upcoming rom-com Too Much. 'The song is set to form the soundtrack of the ten-part series, which has been created by Lena Dunham.' The London-based rom-com is to hit the streamer in July and will also star White Lotus actor Will Sharpe and Emily Ratajowski. London Bridge peaked at No3 on the UK charts 19 years ago and formed part of Fergie's debut solo studio album, The Dutchess. Four days of folk music fill Fishguard and Goodwick

FISHGUARD and Goodwick are ringing with the sound of folk music once again as the Fishguard Folk Festival returns for its 24th year, running from Friday (May 23) to Bank Holiday Monday (May 26). The four-day celebration of music, song, and dance sees venues across the twin towns come alive with performances, workshops, storytelling, and informal sessions, attracting visitors and artists from across Wales and beyond. Firmly established on the folk calendar, the festival highlights both traditional and contemporary expressions of folk culture, with a programme that includes bilingual performances, open mic slots, children's activities, and walking tours — many of them free to attend. Festival Development Manager Claire Quinn said the event offers something for everyone: 'What makes Fishguard Folk Festival truly special is the variety of ways to experience folk music and culture — whether you're enjoying live performances, joining sessions and workshops, trying something new, or simply soaking up the atmosphere.' Headline concerts this year include a sold-out Sunday performance from acclaimed Welsh acts Alaw and Cynefin. On Friday evening, BBC Radio 2 Folk Singer of the Year Ríoghnach Connolly performs at Bethel Chapel with John Ellis, known for his work with Tom Jones and Lily Allen, supported by the lively London Irish SGH Trio. Saturday night sees festival favourites 3 Daft Monkeys take the stage at Theatr Gwaun. Beyond the ticketed concerts, visitors can explore the Barti session trail — 11 venues across the towns hosting informal music sessions — as well as an art exhibition at Trove Gallery and quayside festivities in Lower Town, which include local food stalls, live music, and a visit from Celtic Sail and Trade's sailing ship. Workshops range from Welsh singing and storytelling to Tiny Twmpaths for younger children, and there are opportunities to learn and participate throughout the weekend. The festival is supported by local sponsors including The Royal Oak, Barti Rum, and Stena Line, along with backing from Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council, the Oakdale Trust and Pembrokeshire County Council. More details, including how to book for remaining ticketed events and workshops, are available at

BBC workmen ripped apart Steve Wright's old studio in week he died

BBC Radio 2 presenter Jeremy Vine told how workmen ripped apart Steve Wright's old studio and showed lack of compassion to older staff members BBC workmen ripped apart Steve Wright's old studio in the very week that he died. The Radio Two presenter passed away in February last year aged 69 from a ruptured stomach ulcer. Two years before he had been axed from his very popular weekday show by the station – a move which had angered his army of listeners. Instead he had continued hosting his Sunday Love Songs programme. ‌ Now details have emerged that when the BBC moved out of Wogan House in London in the spring last year, their timing for tearing out rooms and removing equipment could not have been worse. ‌ Radio 2 host Jeremy Vine has revealed: ' Steve Wright – what an amazing man. 'His studio was torn out in the week he died very sadly because they were changing offices and of course the way they tear these things out is not particularly respectful of the history of all the machines that were in there because Steve had asked for them.. that microphone was Steve's microphone!' Vine, who also has a Channel 5 daytime show, said staff were in tears when word reached them that 'Wrightie' - who had been at the station since the 1980s - had died. And he had to console one newsreader who was especially close to him – but even that moment was ruined by a workman who showed a lack of compassion. He added: 'When he died, there was a particular news reader who was very very close friends with him and she was very upset because she was in the newsroom and she found out he had died because she saw the script for it. Terrible. ' I said 'Let's go and talk about it' and we went off. Now this was all part of this big office move and there was a sign outside (his old studio) saying 'Do Not Enter'... so we of course ignored that. ‌ 'So we go into the studio and we start talking, hugging, crying and talking about Steve and then we must have appeared on some camera because a guy comes up with a clipboard and opens the door and says 'Excuse me.. can you not read this sign?' 'I said 'Sorry' but I can see my friend the news reader is about to go ballistic. And she said 'This is our church!' which is such a great line. It made me think how deep all this runs.' Former Strictly contestant Vine also admitted that it was a sad sign of the times that the BBC is staffed with many younger employees who do not know the history of the station nor the legendary radio presenters who helped make the channel what it is today. And a recent experience made him realise how easily famous DJs can be forgotten. ‌ The star, who has recently released a murder mystery novel Murder On Line One, explained at the Bath Literary Festival: 'Obviously all my producers now are 22 or 23 years old and as we cleared out the desks in the old building which is called Wogan House, one of them pulled this massive lump of metal out. 'And it was a bust in bronze and they said 'Who the hell is this?' It was a guy with a collar and tie on. And I said 'Look at the name!' And they looked at it and turned it around and said 'Jimmy Young. Who's that?' I said 'Guys he presented the show for 29 years'. But it was a bit of a reminder of the generational gap – and once you are gone, you are gone! And I suppose a lot of broadcasters do worry about that.' A BBC spokesman said: "Radio 2 moved out of Wogan House and all the studios were decommissioned on the same weekend that Steve tragically passed away. Steve's microphone was saved, mounted on a stand and featured prominently in the celebration of his career that took place at the BBC recently. The event was recorded and will be broadcast later this year."
