Lily Allen: I can't remember how many abortions I had

Lily Allen has said she 'can't remember' how many abortions she has had over the years. The British singer, who has two children, described her reproductive system as a 'complete disaster area' in the past. Speaking on an episode of her podcast Miss Me?, Allen, 40, whose hits include Smile, LDN and The Fear, said: 'I have an IUD [contraceptive coil] now. 'I think I'm on my third, maybe fourth, and I just remember before that it was a complete disaster area. Yeah I'd get pregnant all the time, all the time.' Asked by her co-host Miquita Oliver, 41, whether she had ever terminated a pregnancy, Allen started singing to the tune of Frank Sinatra's My Way, saying: 'Abortions, I've had a few…but then again…I can't remember exactly how many.' 'About four or five' She laughed before adding: 'I can't remember. I think maybe like, I want to say four or five.' Oliver, a television presenter who made her name on Channel 4.s Popworld, said she had also had 'about five' before Allen recalled that she once thought it was 'so romantic' for a man to pay for her abortion. 'I remember once getting pregnant and the man paying for my abortion, and me thinking it was so romantic,' she admitted, explaining that now she doesn't think 'it's generous or romantic'. Ms Oliver interjected: 'I actually think that is romantic. Do you not think that's romantic?' She told Allen: 'I'm so happy I can say that and you can say it and no one came to shoot us down, no judgment.' Allen has two daughters, Marnie Rose, 12, and Ethel Mary, 13, with her ex-husband Sam Cooper. She split from her second husband David Harbour, an actor who starred in Stranger Things, last December, four years after they married in Las Vegas. She said the stigma surrounding abortions 'irritates' her, adding: 'I've said it before on the record. 'I've seen memes going around sometimes, on Instagram from pro-abortion accounts or whatever, whenever this conversation comes up, and suddenly you start seeing people posting things about extraordinary reasons for having an abortion. 'Like, 'My aunt had a kid that had this disability,' or whatever, 'If she went full term it was going to kill her, so we have to.' It's like, shut up. 'Just, 'I don't want a f---ing baby right now.' 'Don't want a baby' is enough reason.' Glastonbury jibe at US judges Allen, a Brit award winner, previously shared her views on the topic in the wake of the US Supreme Court's decision to overturn the Roe v Wade legislation in 2022 by singing her hit song 'F--k You' on stage at Glastonbury and dedicating the expletive-filled tune to the judges who overturned the ruling. Last month, MPs voted with a majority of 242 to decriminalise seeking an abortion at any stage of gestation for any reason, meaning women will no longer face an investigation or arrest for doing so. Critics claimed it would increase the number of abortions, including dangerous terminations, and would pave the way for sex-selective abortions.
