Red Bull Shay' iMoto heats up Durban
The event organisers have announced the 16 drivers that will go head-to-head in the spinning competition. However, before they can get into gear for the competition, the Red Bull Shay' iMoto static car has been doing the rounds in Durban, making all the right noises. The car was a hit in Phoenix, drawing the attention of fans and car enthusiast alike. The static car will also make a stop in Umlazi on Saturday, August 2, at Fresh Stop Mega City and Max's Lifestyle.
The event organisers said that this was the perfect way to announce the arrival of the spinning elite who will gather at Suncoast to claim their place in motorsport folklore.
'Durban has always been different. It's where the spinning scene carries its own distinct flavour, influenced by the city's multicultural energy, its proximity to the ocean, and its reputation as the playground of KwaZulu-Natal,' said the organisers.

Among the confirmed line-up are returning champions carrying the weight of expectation, hungry newcomers with nothing to lose, and local heroes finally getting their home ground advantage.
'The Durban crowd will witness battles that extend beyond the track. Old rivalries will reignite under the coastal sun, while new ones are born in the heat of competition. Indeed, the move to Durban represents more than a change of venue, it's a homecoming for a sport that has always belonged to the people,' said the organisers.
They added, 'Each driver brings their own story to the tarmac. Some learnt to spin in the shadow of mine dumps, others perfected their craft along beachfront promenades. Some are third-generation spinners, carrying family legacies in their DNA. Others are newcomers who discovered their calling in the smoke and thunder of previous Red Bull Shay' iMoto events.'
The list of top 16 drivers includes Boksie, Jabu, Magesh Junior, Makgasa Fire, Robin Fortuin, Sadz – Flyboxin, Skopas / Bad Company, Team 2xspicy JZ, Team Kayla, Team Nevs, Team Osizweni, Team VQ25, Vaaitjie, Ziko and Lockdiff.
Tickets are available via Computicket for what promises to be a defining moment in SA motorsport. For more information on the 2025 Red Bull Shay' iMoto event, visit: https://www.redbull.com/za-en/events/red-bull-shay-imoto.

Currie Cup: Will Frans Steyn return to Durban to haunt Sharks?
The third round of the Currie Cup Premier Division kicks off in Kimberley on Friday, when Griquas host Western Province from 15:00, with the home side determined to build on their victory over the Boland Kavaliers last weekend, while the Capetonians will be eager to notch up their first victory of the season. Saturday's action begins in Pretoria, where the Bulls welcome the Pumas at 15:00. Later that day, the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV will look to make home advantage count when they face the Cheetahs at 17:10 in Durban. The Boland Kavaliers will play their third consecutive Sunday fixture, this time against the Lions in a 15:00 kick-off in Wellington. In Friday's clash, WP will be desperate to reverse their fortunes after two early losses. However, Kimberley is known to be a tough hunting ground, and Labeeb Levy's charges will need a marked improvement to overcome the hosts. Griquas have dominated recent encounters between the two sides and are on a seven-match winning streak against WP. Their most recent victory came in September last year, when they triumphed 37-29 at home. After a narrow loss to the Pumas in the opening round, Pieter Bergh's men bounced back with a 48-39 win over a spirited Kavaliers outfit. They'll be confident heading into this clash against a youthful WP side still finding their feet in the competition. The Bulls, early pacesetters in the competition, will aim to extend their dominance over their eastern neighbours, the Pumas. Their 40-24 win in this fixture last September was a second successive win for the men from Pretoria following a heavy 63-15 loss to the team from Mpumalanga in May 2023. This season however, the Bulls have looked formidable, collecting maximum points from their opening two matches and playing a very attractive brand of rugby. Their two wins so far includes a 64-0 demolition of the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV at Loftus Versfeld, and a convincing away win over WP in the North-South derby. The Pumas, who edged Griquas in round one, fell short against a determined Cheetahs side in Bloemfontein last weekend and Saturday's clash in Pretoria will be another stern test for the 2022 champions from Mbombela. In Saturday's late afternoon fixture, the Hollywoodbets Sharks XV host the Cheetahs at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, Durban, where Frans Steyn's charges will be eager to build on their thrilling win over the Pumas last weekend. Steyn, now 38, enjoyed two stints at the Sharks, from 2006 to 2009 and again from 2012 to 2014. Clashes between these two sides have often delivered fireworks, with the Durbanites holding a narrow 3-2 edge in their last five meetings. However, based on current form, the young KZN outfit will go into this one as underdogs. JP Pietersen's young squad will be looking to bounce back after last week's heavy defeat at Loftus, but they face a tough challenge against a Cheetahs side that showed grit in overcoming the Pumas. The last time these two met, the Sharks XV edged it 25-20. Sunday's fixture in Wellington sees the Kavaliers take on a confident, high-flying Lions side. The Bolanders, newly promoted to the Premier Division, will be pleased with their six league points so far. However, the Highvelders – last year's runners-up – present their toughest challenge yet. With just one loss in their last five matches in this competition (a narrow defeat to their Durban rivals in the 2024 final), the Lions boast a powerful yet mobile pack of forwards and a potent backline. Fans in Wellington are in an entertaining, attacking spectacle on Sunday afternoon. All matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport Rugby. Werda School brings the sporting action with festival
IN what has become an annual spectacle on the sporting calendar, Werda School will once again host its 7s Festival tournament on Saturday, August 9. However, this year the school is going bigger and better and including a senior Fast5 netball tournament as part of the festival. Stephan Hennop, the sports co-ordinator at Werda, explained the thinking behind the expansion. 'This year there will be 34 teams competing in the festival, with most schools entering multiple teams. This marks a significant step up from last year, and we're expecting around 400 players on the day. These tournaments provide young players with valuable match experience in a competitive but supportive environment. Also read: St Mary's retain hockey crown 'They help develop teamwork, discipline, and resilience, which are essential skills both on and off the field. It's also a chance for players to showcase their talent, build confidence, and connect with peers from other schools,' he said. This year the 7s festival will include the U13, U15, and U18 age groups. Hennop explained that the inclusion of the Fast5 Netball tournament was an exciting development. 'The U18 Fast5 netball tournament is an exciting addition. It broadens the sporting opportunities for our students, adds variety to the festival, and promotes greater participation across different sports. Fast5's fast-paced format brings a dynamic and engaging element to the day, which we believe players and spectators alike will really enjoy. Holding the festival on Women's Day also highlights and celebrates the importance of women in sport, making this addition especially meaningful,' he said. For those attending the festival, there will be an entry fee of R20 for visitors. The rugby festival begins at 07:40. 'For those who can't attend in person, the senior rugby games will be streamed live on EliteSport's platform via InkwaziTelevision's YouTube channel,' he said.
