Woman Naxalite killed in encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Kanker

KANKER: A woman Naxalite was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Friday morning, a police official said.
The gunfight broke out on a forested hill within the jurisdiction of Chhotebethiya police station when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Border Security Force (BSF) was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Kanker Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.
The operation was launched between Amatola and Kalpar villages based on inputs about the presence of the members of the banned Maoist organisation on the other side of the Kotri river, he said.
"The body of a woman Naxalite along with a weapon has been recovered from the encounter site so far, while the intermittent exchange of fire is still underway in the area," he said.
More details will be shared later, the official added.

The trafficker, resident of Chanipur in West Tripura district was arrested during joint operation conducted by Agartala Government Railway police, Railway Protection Force (RPF) , Border Security Force (BSF), local police station and other sister agencies. A series of arrests of Bangladeshi and Rohingya persons have come in different parts of Tripura, especially at Agartala Railway Station. As per a report of the Tripura Police, 816 Bangladeshi nationals, 79 Rohingya persons and two Nigerians were arrested from January 1, 2024 till February 28 this year. Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, recently informed that 2815 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for illegally crossing the Indo-Bangla border into Tripura from 2022 to October 31, 2024, out of which 1746 have been pushed back to their country of origin and 1069 others are housed in jail custody, temporary detention centers, shelter homes or are out on bail. Tripura shares 856 km of international border with Bangladesh, including land based and riverine border, much of which is covered with barbed wire fence except a few patches which are still unfenced due to local disputes.

'Seven other men remain in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm,' the police said in a statement. Local media reported the arrests took place at a protest against the Iranian leadership. Police did not link the arrests to the Iranian embassy, but said they took place on Prince's Gate in London, which is where the embassy is located. 'Two men were treated for injuries at the scene and have been taken to hospital for further treatment by the London Ambulance Service,' the police said in an earlier statement. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, the police said in an update. 'Police have cordoned off the area while initial investigations take place.'

Gaya: A joint team of central and state armed forces recovered 60 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) from the forest at Kachnar village under Chhakarbandha police station area of Sherghati subdivision of the district on Thursday evening. At a press conference on Friday, SSP Anand Kumar said, "Police got information about the IEDs planted under the ground from a Maoist sub-zonal commander of Magadh zone, Akhilesh Singh Bhokta alias Patarki, of village Kachnar, who surrendered on Thursday. Bhokta had been evading arrest for the last 10 years and carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh." "Bhokta was wanted in at least 17 Maoist-related violence cases lodged at different police stations in Gaya and Aurangabad districts. He had joined the Red outfit at the age 14 years." "He was involved in hanging four members of a family in Dumaria police station area in 2021, triggering IED explosion in Lutua police station area in Gaya in 2019 in which a police sub-inspector was martyred and two jawans sustained serious injuries, besides other crime incidents." "All facilities under the 'surrender and rehabilitation policy' of the govt will be provided to Bhokta," the SSP added.
