KUALA LUMPUR: The esteemed patronage and leadership of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, have earned praise from the diplomatic community for enhancing Malaysia's diplomatic standing and promoting national unity.
Yemen's Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Adel Mohamed Ba Hamid, commended Sultan Ibrahim's steadfast support for Malaysia's chairmanship of Asean this year, including His Majesty's role in strengthening Malaysia's voice on the regional stage.
Adel Mohamed also acknowledged His Majesty's consistent message of inclusivity and harmony, particularly the call for Malaysians to embrace unity in diversity, a timely appeal amid rising global polarisation.
'Under Your Majesty's guidance, Malaysia has continued to enjoy political stability. This stability enables the government to plan for the long term and seize emerging opportunities in the green and digital economies to create high-quality jobs for Malaysians,' he said.
He said this in a congratulatory speech on behalf of the diplomatic corps at the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with His Majesty's official birthday celebration at Istana Negara yesterday, reported Bernama.
Sultan Ibrahim and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, graced the occasion.
Adel Mohamed also highlighted the success of the recently concluded 46th Asean Summit and the Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)-China Summit, chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which reaffirmed the need for multilateral collaboration amid global uncertainty.
'Leaders from Asean, as well as Timor-Leste, the GCC and China, were also honoured to attend the royal luncheon hosted by Your Majesty, which highlighted Your Majesty's enduring support for regional integration,' he said.
The ambassador also conveyed the diplomatic corps' best wishes to Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah, praying for their continued good health and happiness.
Adel Mohamed said the diplomatic community in Malaysia stands ready to work closely with His Majesty, the Malaysian government and the Malaysian people.
The diplomatic corps also congratulated all recipients of federal awards, honours and medals at the ceremony, describing their recognition as a testament to their longstanding contributions to Malaysia's growth.

Malaysia's Public Transport Usage Just At 20 Pct, Says Loke

PETALING JAYA, June 4 (Bernama) -- The percentage of public transport usage in Malaysia has only reached 20 per cent to date, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. He said the figure remains below the 40 per cent target outlined in the National Transport Policy 2019–2030. 'The national transport policy from 2019 to 2030 is already in place. So, our challenge is how to ensure that this policy is realised according to its intended goals,' he said when met after the Ilmuwan Malaysia Madani Siri 6 forum at Menara Prasarana here today. The forum discussed the topic 'Transportation for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport', chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In addition to Loke, other panel members were President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah, and Universiti Putra Malaysia Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah. Commenting further, Loke said the implementation of the 'Road to Rail' initiative is currently being carried out in phases and is expected to have a significant impact on the country's logistics sector. 'We are actively promoting the use of rail. That's why one of our focus initiatives is 'Road to Rail' , to encourage more usage of railways for the transportation of containers and goods,' he said. 'When the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project is completed, it will boost the use of rail to transport goods and containers to the East Coast, thereby reducing reliance on road transport such as lorries,' he added. -- BERNAMA

PM Anwar Proposes Strategic Housing Development Near Public Transport

GENERAL PETALING JAYA, June 4 (Bernama) – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has proposed that new people's housing projects be developed on or near public transport stations, as a move to encourage more comprehensive use of the public transport system. Anwar said that such a housing development concept would not only provide more strategic residences for low-income groups but also pave the way for a more sustainable and organised urban lifestyle. 'There are proposals to develop housing directly on top of public transport stations, but this requires certain amendments (to laws) and is currently being worked on. 'An example is the Kota MADANI project, where I emphasised comprehensive and centralised basic amenities for the welfare of the people, including vertical development,' he said. The Prime Minister was speaking at the Malaysia MADANI Scholars' Forum (FIM) Series 6 at Menara Prasarana here, tonight. The forum, organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), discussed the topic 'Transport for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality, and Sustainability of Public Transport'. Also participating as panellists were Transport Minister Anthony Loke; Prasarana Malaysia Berhad President and Group Chief Executive Officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah; and Universiti Putra Malaysia Vice-Chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah. Meanwhile, Anwar said that open discourse platforms like the forum were crucial to ensure government policies were formulated by considering the voices of various parties, including academicians, industry experts, government supporters, and even the opposition. Anwar said the organisation of such forums proved that the government did not shut down criticism, but instead encouraged differing views, provided they were delivered professionally and constructively.

Indonesian, French firms partner up to develop efuels

JAKARTA: (Bernama-Xinhua) PT Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (NRE), a sub-holding of Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, is collaborating with French firm MGH Energy to explore breakthroughs in the production of e-fuels, an official said on Wednesday (June 4), reported Xinhua. The partnership, formalised during the Indonesia-France Business Forum on May 28, focuses on the development of e-methanol and eSAF (e-sustainable aviation fuel), according to John Anis, CEO of PT Pertamina NRE. "Indonesia has a huge potential of renewable resources, from solar to hydro, which could be the basis for industrial-scale e-fuel production," said Anis in a statement issued Wednesday. He added that this strategic collaboration not only aims to develop innovative solutions for reducing carbon emissions but also represents a valuable opportunity for technology transfer. It is expected to accelerate both the production and adoption of renewable energy in Indonesia. Fadjar Djoko Santoso, vice president of corporate communication at PT Pertamina, emphasised the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change and achieving national environmental goals. "PT Pertamina NRE plays an important role in the transition to clean energy. This collaboration is a strategic step towards a more sustainable, fair, and open energy system," he said. MGH Energy is known for its focus on decarbonising the transportation sector, particularly in maritime and aviation. - Bernama-Xinhua
