C.J. Gardner-Johnson: Eagles traded me because they're scared of a competitor
Gardner Johnson was asked on The Pivot podcast why he thinks he's not an Eagle anymore.
'Scared of a competitor,' Gardner-Johnson answered. 'Simple as that.'
Gardner-Johnson felt that he wasn't supported by his coaches when he was ejected from a late-season game against the Commanders, and that he was blamed for a postseason practice scrum. In both cases, Gardner-Johnson said he was just letting the competitive juices flow.
'We had a little scrum at practice,' Gardner-Johnson said. 'Nothing, just offense vs. defense, but who's the culprit of it? Me, I guess, because we're competing. Well, you tell me the period is live. You're telling us not to compete during a live period, but it's a live period and we're getting ready for a playoff game?'
Gardner-Johnson indicated that teammates have never has a problem with his competitive approach, but coaches and front office executives have.
'You want me to be a leader and outspoken but then you want me to sit back,' Gardner-Johnson said. 'There's nowhere been a locker room where I had a single issue with a teammate.'
Now Gardner-Johnson will bring his competitiveness to Houston.

Vic Fangio's defense saw Darius Slay (Steelers), Isaiah Rodgers (Vikings), Avonte Maddox (Lions), and James Bradberry (UFA) all depart a Super Bowl roster. Philadelphia possesses one of the strongest rosters in the NFL, with very few weaknesses or personnel gaps. They will return to the NovaCare Complex entirely motivated after facing an offseason filled with slights and trash talk from their rivals, but with recently earned championship rings. DB Lewis Cine Reunited with his former Georgia Bulldog teammates, it's now or never for Lewis Cine. Cine was selected by Minnesota 32nd overall in the 2022 draft and joined the Bills' practice squad after being released by the Vikings last summer. He broke his leg during his rookie season and was limited to playing 10 defensive snaps in 10 games over his two years in Minnesota. OLB Azeez Ojulari Like Uche, Ojulari could cash out with a big season rushing the passer in Philadelphia. In his first year in the league, he broke the Giants' record for sacks by a rookie with eight. In four years in the NFL, Ojulari has compiled 37 QB hits, 22 sacks, and 21 tackles for loss in 46 games. At just 24 years old, the savvy edge rusher has a chance to make an impact for Philadelphia within Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio's scheme. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound player posted six sacks in 11 games in the 2024 season. WR Johnny Wilson Wilson, whom the Eagles selected in the sixth round of last year's NFL Draft, made 16 regular-season appearances during his rookie season in Philadelphia. Wilson finished with five catches for 38 yards and a touchdown. He played on more than 50 percent of Philadelphia's offensive snaps just three times last season, and will look to carve out a role in 2025. DB B.J. Mayes At 6-1 and 195 pounds, Mayes is a versatile nickel corner with the size and speed to play on the outside. Mayes played one season at Texas A&M, leading the team with four interceptions in 2024, which ranked fourth in the SEC. Before his time with the Aggies, he spent two seasons at Incarnate Word and one at UAB. OL Kenyon Green The Eagles acquired the former first-round pick in a trade with the Houston Texans this offseason. The 15th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M, Green (6-4, 325) has started 23 games in his career and will look to have a breakout season finally. DB Tristin McCollum Philadelphia selected Drew Mukuba to pair with Reed Blankenship at safety, but if the rookie isn't prepared to hit the ground running, McCollum could be a candidate to start. McCollum, 26, saw an expanded role last season with Sydney Brown recovering from injury. He appeared in 14 games with two starts, totaling 33 tackles and two passes defended. WR Elijah Cooks Cooks offers size at 6-4, 215 pounds. He was a rookie free agent signing with Jacksonville in 2023 out of San Jose State. Cooks signed with the Eagles' practice squad on Jan. 14 after spending most of the 2024 season on the Jaguars' practice squad. The 26-year-old wideout is a player to watch.

Eagles Super Bowl hero reveals secret pitch to land ex-teammate
Super Bowl champion Chris Long opens up about his private recruitment of an Eagles teammate. They weren't with the Philadelphia Eagles for a very long period, but they'll always be near and dear to the organization, media, and fan base. Just say the names out loud. Chris Long... LeGarrette Blount... Did you see how broad you were smiling? Some of you youngsters won't believe this, but there was once a time when the Birds hadn't won their first Super Bowl yet. If we're being honest, we wondered when it might ever come. That being said, having seen Philadelphia win twice on the big stage feels like a blessing of sorts, but we'll tell you this. As fun as the second one was, you'll never forget your first. Chris Long shares a fantastic story about his role in recruiting LeGarrette Blount With there being seemingly two million podcasts on the books and another 30,000 being birthed daily, we'd understand if you were fatigued and bored with some of the overkill. Exciting Mics has been decent, though. Eagles teammates Cooper DeJean and Reed Blankenship star, and they have had no issues booking some of their teammates for a conversation. Their most recent episode features Chris Long, one of the heroes from Philadelphia's Super Bowl 52 win. He and LeGarrette Blount were teammates on the New England Patriots roster one year prior. They won a Super Bowl together there, so when Long's contract expired and his one-and-done season in Foxborough was over, he landed in the City of Brotherly Love. When he decided to flex those recruiting chops, guess who he called? "I'll never forget calling L.G. Bro, it's awesome here. I've been talking to these people. I just signed. Like, you need to get down here..." We all know how that turned out. Aside from being ignored in a road game vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, Blount shone in his one-and-done affair with the Birds. No one will ever forget where they were when he rumbled to the end zone to score in Super Bowl LII or when he ran over Andrew Sendejo in the NFC Championship Game two weeks prior. Blount scored a rushing TD in every postseason game during Philadelphia's run to their first Super Bowl, and to think... It almost didn't happen. Long is more visible than Blount these days. This fan base still loves both. Both will forever be a part of Philly's first Super Bowl win. 7 Philadelphia Eagles on the roster bubble entering training camp
With the report date just five days away, we're looking at seven big-named Eagles who are squarely on the roster bubble. The Eagles have a dominant roster, with ten players landing in the top ten rankings from ESPN's positional poll. Philadelphia has few holes on the roster, and even less opportunity for an under-the-radar or veteran player to steal a job or cause a surprise cut. In five days, they'll return to the NovaCare Complex entirely motivated after an offseason of slights and trash talk from looming opponents. With the report date just five days away, we're looking at seven big-named Eagles who are squarely on the roster bubble. RB AJ Dillon Dillon, a 27-year-old running back, is returning to the field after missing the 2024 season due to a neck injury. The Eagles are hoping Dillon can replicate the success he had in Green Bay, where he amassed significant scrimmage yards between 2021 and 2023, but he's only under contract for $1,197,500. WR Terrace Marshall The former LSU star, still only 24, was once a second-round pick in 2021 but has had a disappointing NFL career. Marshall's best season came in 2022, when he had 28 catches for 490 yards and one score with the Panthers. Last season with the Raiders, Marshall had just three catches for 41 yards and offers intriguing athleticism as a long shot. TE Harrison Bryant Philadelphia has Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra as the top two tight ends, and Bryant will compete with Kylen Granson for a roster spot. Bryant finishes his 2024 campaign with nine receptions for 86 yards on 12 targets across 13 games with the Raiders, primarily providing depth at tight end behind All-Pro rookie Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer. OL Kenyon Green Acquired in a trade for C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Green was the No. 15 overall pick out of Texas A&M back in 2022. Green missed all of 2023 with a shoulder injury, and before suffering another shoulder issue last October, he led all guards in pressures allowed (36). He ranked third in quick pressures allowed (14), per NFL Next Gen Stats. OLB Patrick Johnson More of a pass rusher than run stopper, Johnson will compete with Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari for a roster spot. CB Eli Ricks Ricks was supposed to move up the Eagles' depth chart after a season spent watching and continuing to learn his craft. He'll compete with Adoree Jackson and Mac McWilliams for snaps. DB Lewis Cine The goal in adding Lewis Cine on January 8th was to give him a head start on the upcoming season. He's had some time in Vic Fangio's system. Now, he's expected to compete for a roster spot and hopefully live up to the 32nd overall selection the Minnesota Vikings spent on him in 2022.
