Ludhiana: Good news awaits Ludhiana voters as they head to the polls on Thursday - pleasant weather is on the horizon. The Met department has predicted voter-friendly conditions, with no signs of scorching heat.
On Wednesday, temperatures in the city remained close to normal, setting the stage for a comfortable polling day.
Speaking to TOI, Surinder Pal, director of the Met department in Chandigarh, said Ludhiana may in fact experience light rainfall on Thursday. Both day and night temperatures are expected to stay around the seasonal average.
Kulwinder Kaur Gill, principal agrometeorologist at PAU's School of Climate Change and Agricultural Meteorology, added that relative humidity levels are currently higher than the normal range of 50–60%.
According to the Met department's website, Ludhiana is expected to record a day temperature of around 36 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday, rising to 37 degrees on Saturday. Night temperatures are forecasted at 24 degrees on Thursday, climbing to 27 degrees by Sunday.
Voter enthusiasm is high in Ludhiana West. Many residents expressed eagerness to vote, encouraged by the favourable weather. Narinder Singh, a voter from Pakhowal Road area, said the weather has been pleasant over the past few days and they expect it to remain so, allowing them to vote comfortably.

Delhi recorded cleanest air in more than eight months on Wednesday (June 18, 2025), as the Air Quality Index (AQI) dropping to 81, placing it in the 'satisfactory' category, data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed. This is the cleanest air the capital has experienced in the past 261 days. Previously such a recording was made on September 29, 2024, with an AQI of 76, also in the 'satisfactory' range. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow' alert for thunderstorm and moderate to heavy rainfall in the national capital for Wednesday night. Delhi was earlier placed under an 'orange' warning for moderate rainfall, thunderstorm and gusty winds at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometre per hour for Wednesday evening. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2° Celsius, 2.6° below the normal, the IMD said. The relative humidity at 5.30 p.m. was 94% and 90% at 8.30 p.m., it added. Delhi's minimum temperature was registered at 28° Celsius, 0.5° above the normal, the weather officer said.

Most parts of Punjab and Haryana witnessed below normal maximum temperatures on Wednesday, a day after both the states received rains. During the day, weather remained generally dry at most places. According to the Met office, in the 24 hours leading up to 8.30 am on Wednesday, several areas in the two states received rainfall that brought much-needed relief from the intense heat. During this period, notable locations in Punjab that witnessed rain included Ludhiana, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hoshiarpur and Rupnagar. Haryana saw rainfall in Ambala, Hisar, Narnaul, Gurugram, Sirsa and Nuh. Chandigarh too received light rainfall during the period. While the day temperatures saw a sharp drop on Tuesday, they rose slightly on Wednesday, but continued to hover below normal limits at most places. In general, maximum temperatures across both the states ranged between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, in stark contrast to the temperatures in the previous week, which exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 36.1 degrees Punjab, Ludhiana recorded a high of 34.3 degrees Celsius, Patiala 35.2 degrees, Faridkot 36.5 degrees, Ferozepur 36.4 degrees and Hoshiarpur 34 degrees. In Haryana, Ambala recorded a high of 36.1 degrees Celsius, Hisar 35 degrees, Karnal 35.2 degrees, Narnaul 31 degrees, Gurugram 33 degrees, Bhiwani 34 degrees and Rohtak 35.6 degrees.
