Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Fifty Helps India U19 Stretch Lead Over England In 1st Youth Test

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a quick half-century to help India U19 reach 128 for three in their second innings and extend their dominance over England on the third day of the four-day 'Youth Test' on Monday. India now have an overall lead of 229 runs as Suryavanshi's 56 off 44 balls led their charge with the bat. Vihaan Malhotra (34) and Abhigyan Kundu (0) were in the middle at close. Suryavanshi and skipper Ayush Mhatre gave India a flying start, adding 77 runs in 12 overs, before the latter fell to off-spinner Archie Vaughan, son of former England skipper Michael. Vaughan (3/14 off 10 overs) also accounted for Suryavanshi soon after the young Indian crossed his fifty. Earlier, England U19, resuming from overnight 230 for five, reached 439 to cut India's first innings lead to 101 runs. Late order batters Thomas Rew (34), Ekansh Singh (59), Ralphie Albert (50), Jack Home (44) and James Minto (20) contributed to the hosts' rally. Rew and Ekansh added 80 runs for the sixth wicket as England went close to the 400-run mark, which they eventually went past after Home and Minto put on 48 runs for the ninth wicket.

Victor Osimhen Nearing A Permanent Move To Galatasaray? Noted Absent From Napoli Training

Last Updated: Osimhen missed Napoli's pre-season training amid advanced talks for a move to Galatasaray. Despite his success in Turkey, new coach Antonio Conte doesn't see him in Napoli's plans. Victor Osimhen was notably absent as Napoli resumed pre-season training on Monday, with the Nigerian striker reportedly in advanced negotiations for a permanent move to Turkish champions Galatasaray. In an official statement, Napoli confirmed the squad's return to training: 'The players met at the training centre for medical examinations and physical tests. Victor Osimhen was absent and provided a medical certificate." Galatasaray Move on the Horizon Osimhen, a crucial figure in Napoli's 2023 Serie A title win, spent the previous season on loan at Galatasaray, where he excelled with 26 goals in 30 league appearances, helping the Istanbul giants clinch their 25th Super Lig title. Despite his prolific form in Turkey, it appears new Napoli head coach Antonio Conte does not see the 26-year-old forward in his plans for the upcoming Scudetto defence. However, Napoli have made it clear they won't let Osimhen leave for anything less than €75 million ($87.5 million). Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing for several weeks, but the deal remains stalled, with disagreements over payment structures continuing to delay an agreement. New Faces, Familiar Absences Meanwhile, Napoli's new signing, Kevin De Bruyne, recently acquired from Manchester City, was also absent from Monday's session. The 34-year-old Belgian midfielder was not among the players reporting for initial medicals and testing. As Napoli prepare for a new season under Conte, the futures of key players like Osimhen—and how swiftly the club can integrate new signings—will be pivotal to their hopes of reclaiming the Serie A title. 'One Of India's Most Valuable Players': Captain Gill Lauds Ravindra Jadeja's Class Act

Last Updated: Shubman Gill didn't hold himself back in praising the veteran all-rounder. The captain called his senior India's MVP - 'Most Valuable Player' The cricketing world bowed down to Ravindra Jadeja for his bravery at Lord's on Monday. He was India's only hope after the top-order crumbled in the stiff chase of 194 against England. The spicy surface, the chirping English player, and wickets tumbling at the other end couldn't distract Jadeja from his ultimate goal – pulling off a victory for the country. But despite showcasing a world-class act, he was left stranded at 61. An injured Shoaib Bashir knocked over Siraj and sealed a 22-run win for England. Skipper Shubman Gill didn't hold himself back in praising the veteran all-rounder. Addressing the press conference after the heartbreaking defeat, Gill called his senior India's MVP – 'Most Valuable Player'. 'Jadeja is one of India's most valuable players. The experience that he brings in, the skillset that he brings with his batting, bowling and fielding, he is someone very rare and hard to find. The kind of composure he has shown today is tremendous to watch," Gill said on Monday in London. Jadeja's grit was massively challenged by England's relentless pace trio—Jofra Archer (3/55), Brydon Carse (2/30), and the player of the match, Ben Stokes (3/48). But the ace all-rounder was determined to take the game deeper and finish it gently. But unfortunately, he lacked support from the other end. In the final session, when India needed less than 30 with just one wicket in hand, Abhimanyu Easwaran was spotted standing at the boundary line, seemingly passing on a message from the dressing room. However, Gill said no information was passed to their most-experienced player. 'He (Jadeja) is very experienced, and didn't want to give him any message. I think he was batting really well with the tail and I just wanted him and the tail-enders to bat as long as possible," Gill said at the post-match presentation. With this defeat, India now trail 1-2 in the five-match series. There is an eight-day gap before the start of the fourth Test in Manchester from July 23. view comments First Published: July 14, 2025, 23:56 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
